I have several auctions up on eBay right now that are ending in about 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Many are one of a kind items like limited edition prints. They sell fast so snatch them up while they're still available!

Hello everyone. I am looking for furniture for my bedroom, which is faery/enchanted forest themed. Can anyone recommend good sites to buy that sort of thing online? I'm in the U.S., too, if that matters.

Thanks!

The Fool [29 Mar 2006|03:39pm]

“The Fool”

I am leaving on a journey,
For whence?
I do not know -
That is not as important
As the path I roam
To get there,
Eyes hungry for
The seeing of the world.
All I care to carry
Is slung over my shoulders,
Tied up in a cloth that
Marks the cross -
Within a smoking pipe,
The words of Yeats,
A deck from old Marseilles.
My eyes on the horizon
I set out down the road,
Too high to heed
Those lingering doubts
That nip and bark
Behind my heels,
Too lost in dreams
And clouds to see
The cliff that looms
In my periphery -
More the Fool am I.

Greetings, everyone.. I just got my illustration portfolio online, and I thought that I should share..

My artwork draws from my interests and background in various religions, mythology, and fantasy/fairytale archetypes.. And my imagery depicts a sort of dark children's book and anime/manga influenced style that I found fitting for this community..

Some thumbnail examples (You can find enlargements and the description on the site):

Also if you're interested, I have an online store selling prints and books of my artwork here:

Comments and feedback are welcome.. :)

The Sphinx - Ralph Waldo Emerson [22 Dec 2005|04:48pm]

shoveoff
The Sphinx is drowsy,
Her wings are furled:
Her ear is heavy,
She broods on the world.
"Who'll tell me my secret,
The ages have kept?--
I awaited the seer
While they slumbered and slept:--
"The fate of the man-child,
The meaning of man;
Known fruit of the unknown;
Daedalion plan;
Out of sleeping a waking,
Out of waking a sleep;
Life death overtaking;
Deep underneath deep?

"Erect as a sunbeam,
Unspringeth the palm;
The elephant browses,
Undaunted and calm;
In beautiful motion
The thrush plies his wings;
King leaves of his covert,
Your silence he sings.

"The waves, unashamed,
In difference sweet,
Play glad with the breezes,
Old playfellows meet;
The journeying atoms,
Primordial wholes,
Firmly draw, firmly drive,
By their animate poles.

"Sea, earth, air, sound, silence,
Plant, quadruped, bird,
By one music enchanted,
One deity stirred,--
Each the other adorning,
Accompany still;
Night veileth the morning,
The vapor the hill.

"The babe by its mother
Lies bathed in joy;
Glide its hours uncounted,--
The sun is its toy;
Shines the peace of all being,
Without cloud, in its eyes;
And the sum of the world
In soft miniature lies.

"But man crouches and blushes,
Absconds and conceals;
He creepeth and peepeth,
He palters and steals;
Infirm, melancholy,
Jealous glancing around,
An oaf, an accomplice,
He poisons the ground.

"Out spoke the great mother,
Beholding his fear;--
At the sound of her accents
Cold shuddered the sphere:--
'Who, has drugged my boy's cup?
Who, has mixed my boy's bread?
Who, with sadness and madness,
Has turned my child's head?'"

I heard a poet answer
Aloud and cheerfully
"Say on, sweet Sphinx! thy dirges
Are pleasant songs to me.
Deep love lieth under
These pictures of time;
They fade in the light of
Their meaning sublime.

"The fiend that man harries
Is love of the Best;
Yawns the pit of the Dragon,
Lit by rays from the Blest.
The Lethe of Nature
Can't trance him again,
Whose soul sees the perfect,
Which his eyes seek in vain.

"To vision profounder,
Man's spirit must dive;
His aye-rolling orb
At no goal will arrive;
The heavens that now draw him
With sweetness untold,
Once found,--for new heavens
He spurneth the old.

"Pride ruined the angels,
Their shame them restores;
Lurks the joy that is sweetest
In stings of remorse.
Have I a lover
Who is noble and free?--
I would he were nobler
Than to love me.

"Eterne alternation
Now follows, now flies;
And under pain, pleasure,--
Under pleasure, pain lies.
Love works at the centre,
Heart-heaving alway;
Forth speed the strong pulses
To the borders of day.

"Dull Sphinx, Jove keep thy five wits;
Thy sight is growing blear;
Rue, myrrh and cummin for the Sphinx,
Her muddy eyes to clear!"
The old Sphinx bit her thick lip,--
Said, "Who taught thee me to name?
I am the spirit, yoke-fellow;
Of thine eye I am eyebeam.

"Thou art the unanswered question;
Couldst see thy proper eye,
Always it asketh, asketh;
And each answer is a lie.
So take thy quest through nature,
It through thousand natures ply;
Ask on, thou clothed eternity;
Time is the false reply."

Uprose the merry Sphinx,
And crouched no more in stone;
She melted into purple cloud,
She silvered in the moon;
She spired into a yellow flame;
She flowered in blossoms red;
She flowed into a foaming wave:
She stood Monadnoc's head.

Thorough a thousand voices
Spoke the universal dame;
"Who telleth one of my meanings
Is master of all I am."

Dream Within a Dream - Edgar Allan Poe [22 Dec 2005|04:42pm]

shoveoff
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow --
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand --
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep -- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?.

One of my personal favourites..

Samhain [31 Oct 2005|08:29pm]

“Samhain”

The moon provides the spark which
Ignites all the pneuma in the air,
Making the night flush with magic that
Transforms the ordinary landscape
Into something fae and otherworldly.

The trees are stately courtiers all
Bedecked in jewels of garnet and citrine,
They bear witness through the night
With whispers that carry on the wind
The impending encroachment of winter.

The dominion of the sun is ending as
Darkness recaptures an hour every day,
Bringing those who revel in the night
A season of their own to reap the harvest,
A bountiful feast o’er which to sing.

For my part I stand here in the cornfield
Awaiting on the thinning of the Veil,
So that my aching heart might be reunited
With its beloved gallant from the past,
Dancing in bliss ‘til dawn takes him.

The moon provides the spark which
Ignites all the pneuma in the air
Making the night flush with magic,
The sorcerous gift-giving of Samhain
That reinvigorates my spirit each year.

Fairies! [27 Oct 2005|11:36am]

THREE SPRITES

Three fairies-
One in likeness
One in mind
And one in being;
Came to the girl in her hour of need.

In a touch
A thought
And in healing,
They whispered dreams of hope
And the depth of her spirit.

In a glimpse they procured
Her an idea of peace;
The future,
One day
At a time.

'Twas white
And clear.
The girl felt warm
Smelled cookies baking,
Potpuorri.

Their was music
Laughter
Balloons
Clowns
And trapeze artists.

With the stroke of a flower
Their were loved ones
Giddy secrets.

Memories whirled round the girl.
Promises that had come true for her
And a future new
But full of past experience.

Then just ahead,
By the stereo
To the right-
A figure cloaked gleaming her way.

A face the girl new
Allowing
Confusing thoughts to enter her.
A man she recalled
But barely knew at all.

The fairies gasped
How did this specter enter here?

They knew not what to do.
They were frustrated
Confounded
Alarmed.

All the effort
Hard work
You can barely know how upset
The three little fairies were.

They had done all their research.
Their incantations had been perfect.
The lillie grass cider
And chocolate harp players
Had worked beautifully on the girl.

Yet here was this figure
All covered intruding,
Holding the attention
Suspending
The girls emotions
And feelings.

What was to be done?
The man was quite powerful.
His anti-jinx curses
Were impenetrable.

The will of
Likeness
Mind
And being began to fade
From unsuccessful attempts
To rid the girl of this malefactor.

This is obviously just a beginning, and very week one at that...any help/constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated. :0)Autumn

City of Mystery [25 Oct 2005|10:16pm]

“City of Mystery”

As Homer tells the tale
There used to be an island
Of academy and arcanum,
Where anything you’d ever dreamed
Could be spun from lead to gold
That legend called Atlantis.

Hidden in the Himalayas
Atop a mountain wreathed in cloud
Sits a city borne of peace,
Never a care has fallen on
The lanes and vaulted towers
Of remote Shangri-La.

The wreck of old Tintagel
There on Cornwall’s rugged coast
Where once was a fortress
Held by a guardian knight.
We ask the stones remaining,
“Were you Camelot?”

But Atlantis fell into the sea,
The mists reclaim Shangri-La,
Cornwall keeps her secrets.
The only city of mysteries
That holds my interest still
Is the elusive one called home.

I've been doing more perusing of faeriecharm and have come to a sad conclusion. The poetry I have been writing lately isn't as whimsical as it once was. I think I'll keep my more sociological poetry for other communities. I will keep reading your writings though, and if I find myself in a more Mab place while writing I'll post again! Write on poets!!!

Round Magic

The grooves of this tablecloth’s stitching are going
Down
Down.

The color of this tablecloth’s patterned flowers are going
Up
Up.

I wonder where the table has gone?

Like my emotions
One part of the crust is always rising-
Then as with pannekoekens
Its counterpart sets.

Between them
Praying
My voice loud but sweet as peach pie filling
I say clearly-
As if from a Christian’s lips…

“God- grant me the
Serenity to
Accept the things I cannot change, the
Courage to change the things I can, and the
Wisdom to know the difference.”

I see at eye level now
The flowers
Fumed with vivaciousness
This is serenity.

The stitching wriggles round my toes
Worms through moist ground
In a fishes mouth.

The table touches my tender breasts
Through my sweaty tee shirt.
I am slouching in my own imagination!

But I’ve found the median.
The middle ground is always astounding.
My round kitchen table.
All cork and no straight lines.

I sit before it -
My emotions in perfect balance.
Bright beautiful insects in my mind.
Beauty in my heart.
The magic of words and too much coffee!
