1st March 200611th January 2006So as we are growing up and out...moving away and whatnot, I feel it is becoming more and more important to stay in touch. As such, I am attempting to update our current personal information, so we all can get in touch with eachother. I will be emailing out a template for you to fill out (which currently has my info as an example). So, fill out the pertinent information, and I will organize it into one big file, print a million copies and distribute to those who may appreciate it... However, I do not have everyone's email address, so please forward accordingly, or email me so I can send you the template. I would like to start putting this info into an access database this weekend, so please email me asap. Sending everyone love! 9th December 20056th December 2005Also, this community hasn't been too active, so I'll pose a few questions... What do you like about yourself? What do you want to improve on? How are you going to improve? 19th February 2005It's V-Week here at Mizzou and the Vagina Monologues played last night. I unfortunately missed it for another year in a row, but V-Week in itself always brings on some fun times. Like my friend Kristin putting up a giant vagina as a bulletin board. I'm not kidding, it looks very realistic too. And discussions of what people's vaginas would say if they could talk (and what certain males' vaginas would say if they were lucky enough to have them!). So in the spirit of the Vagina Monologues two questions: 1. What would your vagina say if it could talk? 2. What would your vagina wear if it was animate? Current Mood:
12th December 2004hey jess, did you know that our schools' women's soccer teams played each other this past november? they tied at 0-0. sad...but interesting! 15th November 2004i realized something today, and i want to know if you fine ladies have ever noticed it, yourself... all commercials about cleaning chemicals, sponges, toilet brushes, etc...all feature women. even when men are in the commercials, it is in the context of a marriage wherein the woman basically creates an ultimatum for him to figure out how the cleaning chemicals work. maybe it's just me, but i think that overall theme is a bit sexist. it frames the mindset that women are the domestic workerbees. women do all the cleaning, women do the cooking... just once i would like to see a commercial where two frat boys are trying to figure out how to get the pukestain out of their carpet from the rush party the night before... or a college freshman is trying to figure out how to remove a semen stain for the very first time... or a professional male athlete makes a greasy-ass meal for himself and wants to get the best degreasing soap. these are GREAT ideas. i just reminded myself why i'm doubling in marketing. anywho...i'd like some opinions on this whole deal, what do you think? 6th November 2004Hi all! This is just little note about an idea I had: I'm thinking that all us FFFers in CO (at least) should do Race for the Cure together this spring. I'll find out details soon, and post them for you all. I figure if we have enough notice we should be able to get pledges/support and we can all do it together. By the way: when I say "race" I really mean "walk!" haha. Anyway, I think it would be a fun time for FFF sisterhood time and also a great way to show our love and support for a sistah in need. Lemme know what you all think, and if there's enough interest I'll keep looking into the details. Lots of love! -K 5th November 2004hey ladies, we have a new addition to our family! i inducted, most recently, bethany webster to the triple f! greeneyeddawling is her AIM, her xanga (www.xanga.com) is B_londie she loves bridget jones, SATC, cosmopolitan, chocolate, and everything else we stand for. i hope you guys all make an effort to get to know her, she is so excited to be a part of us! 6th October 2004-she started triple f -she let me into triple f -she doubles as madame m -you can send her mail addressed to 'wanted sex goddess of desire,' and the postman knows exactly where to take it -she's a satc addict -she's really funny -she sends people she's never met postcards from mexico -she takes silly pictures of herself and makes photo montages out of them -heather advice = rockin' advice -she's very real and expresses true emotions well -she's a faaabulous journalist -she went from stranger-to-friend in .03 seconds -she's ubercute -hell, heather's just plain out sexy -she's the kinda chick that makes one happy to be a female -she's perseverant -she sticks to the things she truly believes like glue -she understands the necessity of pretty shoes -she drives a truck (no really, i think that's awesome) 5th October 2004Hey fabulous ones! 4th October 2004i have on my calendar katie k and jessica m's birthdays on october 21st and 26th, respectively. i have to put this out now so that you know i don't forget you by the time you get nothing in the mail... because i have every intention of sending something, but my october schedule is ridiculously busy, so if i get a little behind, be forenoticed that i'm thinking of you! 21st September 200419th September 2004This month is Rape Awareness Month here at MU. So of course being the most awesome student staff member ever, I've made a bulletin board educating my students about rape, etc. (Plus it is part of bulletin board contest and I like prizes). According to the Prevalence, Incidence and Consequences of Violence Against Women Survey, National Institute of Justice and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 1998; 1 out of every 6 women have been victims of an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime. My board background consists of ads of women pulled from many a fashion magazine (Cosmo) with every sixth woman's face blacked out. There are facts and figures about rape on top of this backdrop, but for a while it was just the faces. It was definitely a conversation starter as my students tried desperately to figure out the meaning. When I finally told a group of them yesterday one of the girls commented, "One out of every six? There are six women in our group of friends!" Think of yourself and your five best girlfriends. I think it goes unsaid, but watch out for one another and watch out for yourselves. 14th September 2004i am in the process of making a triple f sub-page on my website, which is also under construction. i said a few months ago that i'd make the website itself, but i am currently unable to get a decent webspace for it without paying a bunch of money. SO..i'm making a sub-page on my student website. IM me for the URL, or wait til i get it up and running. in the meantime, the following members need to provide me with the following information: -Location -Major or Occupation (or both) -Hobbies -Interests -Mantra -Misc -And if you CAN e-mail me a picture of yourself, do. Otherwise I'll use whatever picture I have and can find...and you may or may not be happy with that. -Heather H -Sarah R -Bethany B -Alyssa F -Natalie G -Sarah H -Nikki H -Katie K -Jessie L -Jessica M if your name is not on that list, and you are an officially inducted member, contact me also with your name and information. i may have not met you before, and that could be why i'm out of the loop. e-mail me at the email address posted in my livejournal info. thanks. --nat Current Mood:
17th August 2004hey ladies, i think i have most of your cell numbers in my phone, but if you've changed cell numbers since i got the FFF directory that jessica gave me, e-mail your new number to me. also, if i don't have your address at school or wherever you're living now, give that to me, too. unless you've given it to me w/in the past 3 days, i probably don't have it. i'm moving tomorrow, and due to the fact that the apartment complex i'm moving into is run by communists who seem to think it's fair to charge me a full month's rent for living there half a month, and to charge me a full month's internet service for, again, half a month, i'm not going to be paying for internet until september, when i can get every penny from it. i'll still check e-mail every day, but if you have anything to tell me, feel free to call my cell! (i like getting calls from my friends for any reason, so don't feel like you need an excuse. if you're bored, i'll answer it if i can) 404-493-1473 also, i would muchly appreciate some snail mail. (this applies to the whole year) Natalie Giguere* 3210 Frey Lake Rd. #733-C Kennesaw, GA 30144 *feel free to substitute my real name for any nicknames. i told sarah i'll rent the digital video camera from my school and post a video tour of my place of residence once i'm all moved-in. keep your eyes peeled for any pictures of yourself when i do. love, nat 11th August 2004the computer situation has been permanently remedied! :). and ps, i'm sorry for posting to the triple F website about something not triple F related, but please know i was simply trying to target a group of friends i feel i can trust. i can't do that w/ everyone on my friends list. 9th August 200412th July 2004my dear and wonderful triple f ladies!! 11th June 20045th June 2004A Dark Chocolate a Day Keeps the Doctor Away Daily Dark Chocolate Good for the Heart, Loaded With Flavinoids By Daniel DeNoon Reviewed By Brunilda Nazario, MD on Tuesday, June 01, 2004 WebMD Medical News Here's news that's hard not to like. Eating a small, 1.6-ounce bar of dark chocolate every day is good for you. Very good for you, find Mary Engler, PhD, RN, of the University of California, San Francisco, and colleagues. Now here is a medical experiment you would love to volunteer for. Engler's team divided 21 healthy adults into two groups. One group got a Dove Dark Chocolate bar every day for two weeks. Like other dark chocolate bars with high-cocoa content, this one is loaded with something called epicatechin. Epicatechin is a particularly active member of a group of compounds called plant flavonoids. flavonoids keep cholesterol from gathering in blood vessels, reduce the risk of blood clots, and slow down the immune responses that lead to clogged arteries. The second group that didn't get Dove bars wasn't totally left out. They, too, got dark chocolate bars. But their treats had the flavonoids taken out. All subjects underwent high-tech evaluation of how well the blood vessels dilate and relax -- an indictor of healthy blood vessel function. Blood vessel stiffness indicates diseased vessels and possible atherosclerosis. Those who got the full-flavonoid chocolate did significantly better. Why? Blood tests showed that high levels of epicatechin were coursing through their arteries. "This is the longest clinical trial to date to show improvement in blood vessel function from consuming flavonoid-rich dark chocolate daily over an extended period of time," Engler says in a news release. "It is likely that the elevated blood levels of epicatechin triggered the release of active substances that ... increase blood flow in the artery. Better blood flow is good for your heart." Why Dark Chocolate Is Different Not all chocolate is created equal. Dark chocolate contains a lot more cocoa than other forms of chocolate. And standard chocolate manufacturing destroys up to half of the flavonoids. But chocolate companies have now learned to make dark chocolate that keeps up to 95% of its flavonoids. Sure, this seems like a scam. Can't you get more and better flavonoids from other foods? Surprisingly, the answer is "not really." Engler says that dark chocolate contains more flavonoids than any other food -- including green tea, black tea, red wine, and blueberries. "Many people don't realize that chocolate is plant-derived, as are the fruits and vegetables recommended for a healthy heart," Engler says. While a little dark chocolate is good, a lot is not better. Chocolate still is loaded with calories. If you're going to eat more chocolate, you'll have to cut back somewhere else. And remember that a balanced diet -- and plenty of exercise -- is still the key to heart health. Engler's study was funded by the University of California, San Francisco, School of Nursing. The American Cocoa Research Institute, a nonprofit group funded by the chocolate industry, provided the chocolate used in the study. The findings appear in the June issue of the Journal of the American College of Nutrition. Engler previously reported the findings at the 2002 Scientific Sessions of the American Heart Association and at the Experimental Biology 2003 meeting. Current Mood:
27th May 2004There are two major things on my mind right now that have me so upset I hardly know what to do but write it all down. The first begins with a news special my roommate and I watched tonight on the pornography industry. It was rather disturbing to hear tales about major hotel chains such as Hilton and Marriott supporting hard core pornography, and making literally hundreds of millions of dollars a year on the industry. It was disturbing to hear about parents who turn a cheek to the plight of their daughters who are so financially destitute and emotionally broken that they can't get themselves out of a job that is literally scarring and killing them. It is disturbing to hear about girls who never wanted to get into hard core pornography getting blackmailed into being abused behind a camera for the sexual pleasure of disgusting men all over the world. There are three major problems with this situation, as I see it. One is the supply, another is the demand and the third is the lack of help and support given to the women who become roped into a world of torture and pain, that usually ends up in torment caused by STD's. Demand: Some argue that the public, spending hundreds of millions of dollars on pornography a year, is completely to blame. They are certainly to blame, and are sick and disgusting- perpetuating the idea that women are little more than meat, but they are not the only ones to blame. Support: Particularly our country, but all countries need to have better ways of handling sexual abuse and mistreatment (many women who begin careers in porn were molested or raped at one time in their lives). Having known many people who have dealt with the police and other authorities regarding sexual abuse, and having had experiences with it myself, I can say that the system is horrible. There are few things harder than admitting what has happened to you, dealing with the guilt, reliving the experience in front of cameras, on tape and to people who view you as a perpetrator not a victim. I also think, as I always have, that parents need to take a little more time to care for their troubled children. Giving up is never the answer. If you love someone, you find a way to help them. One story shared on the documentary showed a girl whose college was paid for by her sister's porn career. I can't even comment on this. I am so blown away, so completely blown away that I don't even know what to say, except HOW IN THE WORLD COULD YOU DO THAT TO YOUR SISTER, KNOWING FULL WELL WHAT SHE'S GOING THROUGH? Supply: Some argue that no company will ever take a stand and refuse to supply pornography. These people argue that companies such as Comcast, DirecTV, Hilton, Marriott, etc. make too much money and they don't care about the people they hurt. These people argue that they are less to blame than the public who provides the demand. After all, what is a company to do but supply whatever demand the public has? I completely disagree. Call me idealistic, but as the head of a company you have the right and the ability to make MORAL decisions, based on your MORAL stance. If I were the president of a company, I would be willing to sacrifice a few million a year in revenue (esp. if I'm making plenty of millions already) in order to not be a supporter of something so demeaning. Leaders are meant to lead. To step out of the crowd and do something they know is right, not because that's what everyone tells them to do, but because that's what they know they should do. And it does make a difference if even just one company makes a moral decision. People notice things. Other companies will follow suit. Change is possible. And for the second issue. In regards to the CU scandal I am disgusted. I am disgusted that officials at our school held a meeting with the football players to explain to them that they are the true victims in this situation. I am disgusted that the women who have come forward have been put through such political hell after the mental, emotional and physical torment they've experienced. I am disgusted that our University goes around to groups like the Rotarians begging for money, when they are paying the coach of our shitty football team (have they ever won anything?) OVER A MILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR. He is paid more than THREE TIMES as much as the PRESIDENT OF THE FOUR UNIVERSITY SYSTEM. If we took even half of his salary and put it towards club sports (which are suffering), our science programs (which bring in almost 90% of their own funding through grants), our buildings (which are now costing students $400 a year) etc., this school wouldn't have such financial troubles. I am disgusted that Coach Barnett and the Athletic Director were given PAID leave after showing NO sympathy for the victims, and no sense of responsibility or remorse. It irks me severely that people are so willing to turn a cheeck to injustice. And it bothers me that people are willing to pass things of as immovable. The only immovable things I know of are mountains, and even mountains can be moved if you have the will to do it. Where is the faith that the good actions of even just one person can make a difference in this world? Where is the hope that things can get better? And where is the gumption to go out and effect positive change in this world? 18th May 2004I already miss Sarah and Bethy! My beautiful Triple F lovely ladies are gone, but we got so so many pictures (on sarah's camera) and I just thought that the best way to share our adventures would be that way. So hold on to your hats because...well...there are a LOT of pictures. Maybe movies later if i can figure out how to put a link to them online...which first requires putting them online.
