Fair use rationale for Image:CDToluca logo.png
[edit]
Image:CDToluca logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:43, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Large unsourced material - major clean-up needed
[edit]Hello. Not sure who is watching this article (I have had it on my Watchlist for years), but I went ahead and deleted a lot of unsourced content that has been sitting in this article for a long time. The content is still in the article's history page if anyone needs to review it. But we should not include it back unless there's reliable sources for it. Seems like the info was copied from the Spanish WP article, but they have the same problem with all this being unsourced. This article is something I'm down to help in the near future but its such a big project that it may take a while. Morogris (✉ • ✎) 18:08, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
- I've been pretty bold about deleting most of the unsourced stuff that was also excessively detailed. If anyone has any concerns please let me know. At this point it was more of a blow it up and start over... Morogris (✉ • ✎) 03:34, 29 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you Nihoniumaluminum for working on improving this article by adding several sources, especially in the History section. I added a few more "Citation Needed" tags in other sections but I will try to find some myself if I can. If we cannot find reliable sources, we will unfortunately have to delete those uncited claims since they would not be verifiable. Do you have a book about Toluca's history? Those can probably include a lot of facts from the pre-Internet era which we can cite here too. Happy to help cite it if you have one.
- I'm currently working on getting Deportivo Toluca FC 6–0 Club América (2003) promoted to Did You Know and then take it to Good Article status. I would love to collaborate with you here or in other Toluca-related articles if you see fit. As mentioned in your talkpage, I think a lot of the content here can be moved into another article which is totally fine. Morogris (✉ • ✎) 14:27, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- Hello Morogris, I hope you're doing well.
- First of all, thank you so much for the time you've dedicated to the information about Deportivo Toluca F.C. I've been a fan of the club for many years. The most important thing for me is that the club becomes a little more well-known, so not long ago I decided to create a Wikipedia account to contribute any information I can.
- Unfortunately, I don't have access to any physical or digital books; as you can see, I've found most of the information in sports or news articles.
- Because there's so much information, I think it will be very difficult to provide reliable references. That's why I haven't been able to cite them, which worries me because I know it would leave many important parts of the article incomplete, both in Spanish and English.
- Specifically, information prior to 2010, for example. The club hasn't been in the media spotlight for very long.
- I apologize if I've added irrelevant information previously. I'm gradually trying to learn about the information that can be added to Wikipedia, references, and other things.
- Again, I hope you're doing well, and I hope to be around more often to contribute as much information as possible.
- This is so I can help my club, which is the most important thing.
- Thank you for your attention. Nihoniumaluminum (talk) 18:31, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Nihoniumaluminum: You've done a great job updating the article for how it was earlier this year. We appreciate how much effort you've put into it and for adding the best sources out there! Regarding the unsourced claims / lack of reliable sources, those claims will have to be deleted if we cannot find info to back them up. I'm sure there are print newspapers out there that could cite the material, but unless you or someone else can get access to them, our hands are tied unfortunately. I'll be trying to see what I can find. It might make sense to see if we can contact the club's media team and see if they can send us a digital copy of a history book or at least point us in some direction. I'm a Toluca fan too BTW! Morogris (✉ • ✎) 20:35, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- Forgot to mention I have a copy (PDF form) of the book El Libro de Oro Del Futbol Mexicano which has a whole chapter of the founding of Toluca. I have a link in my profile where you can email me and I can forward it to you as an attachment. I'll be using it for this article. Morogris (✉ • ✎) 20:41, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Nihoniumaluminum: - Hello. I just finished the Foundation and early years section in the article using the book I told you about above. There's another book I'm trying to get a hold of, called Toluquerencias, which also has info on Toluca's early days. I have a friend who will lend it to me in case you'd like copies of the pages where it has the info on Toluca FC. My guess is a lot of the info on team's early days is found offline, in print, somewhere in Toluca's libraries which I'm not able to consult at this time.
- Feel free to review the material and let me know if you have any questions. The work you've done has set a good foundation which I'll work to expand and add more context on. I hope to get this article nominated through our Good Article status process before the Intercontinental Cup this year, but it may take us a while. I nominated the Toluca FC 6–0 Club América (2003) and 2026 CONCACAF Champions Cup final articles, just to give you an idea of their structure, sourcing, content, etc. Hope all is well. Morogris (✉ • ✎) 23:23, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Morogris, I hope you're doing well.
- Thank you so much for the information prior to 1950. Believe me, that was the hardest thing for me to find online in any article or sports news. As you mentioned, much of the information must be in physical format somewhere in Toluca. Unfortunately, I don't live in Toluca, so I'm in the same situation.
- And regarding your suggestion to nominate the article for "Good Article," I think it's a great idea. Let's hope our contributions are recognized, if we can call them that. It would be fantastic if it happened before the Intercontinental Cup.
- For now, I think I'll continue looking for information to further complement the foundation we've built over these past few months.
- Thanks for your trust, and I hope you're doing well! :) Nihoniumaluminum (talk) 03:55, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Nihoniumaluminum: Hello again. Question for ya. Do you have sources for the list of Toluca managers and presidents? I'd like to make separate articles for those sections since that is the standard we have for clubs (see List of Real Madrid CF presidents and List of Manchester United F.C. managers). But much of those names/dates are unsourced. I guess the same applies for the kit suppliers and shirt sponsors section, although I need to ask around if we can cite these based on pictures given that we could "prove" the sponsors at least visually. Thanks again, and please review my recent updates to the article and lemme know if you have any questions. Morogris (✉ • ✎) 23:42, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Morogris! I hope you're doing well.
- Regarding the list of coaches, I've searched for information about them online, but I haven't been able to find reliable sources to support the coaches prior to 1995.
- As we mentioned before, there's probably much more printed information in Toluca.
- But it would be more complicated for us to obtain that information; it would take a lot of time.
- And regarding the part you mentioned about the club's uniform sponsors, there's the "Football Kit Archive." There you'll even find more shirts designed by the brands that have sponsored the club since 1980.
- There you can find the sponsors and most of the uniforms, especially from 1980 onwards, which is when the first sponsor, Adidas, was used. But I'm not sure if that site is reliable; in any case, it would also be useful for the Spanish Wikipedia.
- A few years ago, I remember seeing a Toluca jersey from 1990 for sale with the Adidas brand, but it was an item for sale in a online soccer jersey store. So I suppose that wouldn't be a reliable source for Wikipedia either.
- I'm a little worried that a lot of the information has to be removed due to a lack of reliable sources. But I understand it's necessary.
- I hope we can find more sources so we don't lose too much information.
- Best regards, Morogris.
- Great work with the edits you've made these past few days, thank you very much! Nihoniumaluminum (talk) 02:50, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
- Interesting, I wasn't aware of the Football Kit Archive site. I checked their privacy page and it appears they allow users to submit content, which unfortunately makes it a user-generated source and we cannot use it per this policy. Since there's no editorial oversight, we can't really verify the accuracy of the information.
- I also noticed you've been active on the Spanish Wikipedia. My plan is to finish this article first, then work on the stadium article, and eventually tackle the Spanish version as well. A translation will make things much easier, though I'll be mindful of any existing content that is already properly sourced.
- As for the sourcing issues, I totally understand. I'd rather remove anything we can't verify than risk including inaccurate information. One thing that has been frustrating me is that I know Toluca played many matches around noon because the stadium lacked a lighting system until the 2006 Copa Sudamericana, but I haven't been able to find a source from 2005–2006 that explicitly states it. The closest I've found is this La Jornada article mentioning the first-ever night match at Nemesio Diez, but that's about it. Thanks for your response! Morogris (✉ • ✎) 03:17, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Nihoniumaluminum: Hello. I've removed the tags at the top and updated the intro paragraphs. What do you think about the intro paragraphs now? I did three paragraphs that I believe best capture a full summary of all the article's major points. Please keep in mind that references in the lead are not required (see MOS:LEADCITE) since the intro is meant to summarize points already mentioned and cited elsewhere in the sections, but if you have any questions about the information included in the intro please let me know.
- I added a few images to the article and have several more from 1917-1920 that will add to Commons. I also have a few pictures from my visits to the games at the stadium so I will add those accordingly in the next few weeks if needed. I do think we could have a separate history article at some point but not a requirement at this time. Let me know what you think! Morogris (✉ • ✎) 14:24, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Morogris!
- I apologize for not replying on the Spanish discussion page. I don't know why it won't let me reply like I can here in English.
- But getting back to the English article.
- I think it turned out very well. I understand what you mentioned about the introduction; as you say, it summarizes quite a few important facts about the club.
- Regarding the images, those on Wikimedia Commons could also work quite well in the article about the Nemesio Diez Stadium, if you have any relevant ones.
- Regarding what you mentioned about the article, aside from the club's history, there's already an article on the Spanish Wikipedia, in fact.
- PS: I noticed that an editor added the notice back.
- That editor often removes information without caring whether it's referenced or not.
- I have nothing against him, but I've read several comments from people who think he's quite biased. Anyway, let's hope we can improve the article there. Fortunately, it hasn't brought up too much information for no apparent reason.
- I hope you're doing well, Morogris. Best regards! Nihoniumaluminum (talk) 04:09, 9 July 2026 (UTC)

Renaming to "Toluca FC"?
[edit]Hello. Quick question to whomever is following and also courtesy ping to Nihoniumaluminum who has been tremendously helpful in updating this article. What is your take on renaming Deportivo Toluca FC -> Toluca FC? For naming conventions we generally use WP:COMMONNAME, and hardly any sources in Spanish use the word "Deportivo" and simply refer to it as "Toluca" (but we wouldn't be able to name it as such given the city article exists, so I'm thinking "Toluca FC" would make it simpler and more accurate).
Here are some links that support the "Toluca FC" but curious on your thoughts:
- Toluca's website: http://www.tolucafc.com/
- Toluca's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/tolucafc
- MLS page: https://www.mlssoccer.com/clubs/toluca/
- Toluca's X page: https://twitter.com/@TolucaFC
- MedioTiempo ("Toluca" across time): https://www.mediotiempo.com/futbol/liga-mx/toluca
- ESPN page: https://www.espn.com/soccer/team/_/id/223/toluca
- League's Cup Page: https://www.leaguescup.com/clubs/toluca/
These are just a few points as I've mentioned, because virtually every other source from Mexican media calls them simply "Toluca" and hardly any mentions them with "Deportivo" in it. I actually think "Deportivo" is distracting considering most sources don't use it. Morogris (✉ • ✎) 03:39, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Morogris, I hope you're doing well. Thank you for the recognition and sorry for the delay in responding.
- In my opinion, as you mentioned, the word "Deportivo" sounds somewhat confusing, since the club itself isn't a "sports club," it's a "football club," so it sounds a bit misleading.
- And as you mentioned, on social media, the club has referred to itself as "Toluca FC" everywhere for the last 10 years or more. Meanwhile, media outlets only mention "Toluca" and, a little more frequently, "Toluca FC."
- It seems to me that the club only continues to call itself "Deportivo Toluca" on YouTube because it doesn't on other platforms.
- Although I believe they legally still use "Deportivo Toluca Futbol Club."
- Something strange is that the crest says "Club Deportivo Toluca," although this is probably more symbolic. Nihoniumaluminum (talk) 11:31, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you. I've made the change based on the agreement that "Deportivo" is hardly used by reliable sources and that's more than enough to justify a move per WP:COMMONNAME. Morogris (✉ • ✎) 15:36, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
Willian Gabriel
[edit]Intruder007 & Nihoniumaluminum - Alright, before we continue to engage in an ongoing revert war, wanted to bring both of you here for a discussion. Willian Gabriel has never played on the main team, correct? Was featured on the online squad available on the website? If the answer is no to both, we can wait to feature him here, especially with the lack of a formal debut. We do have a Toluca FC Reserves and Academy for players in the under-23 divisions. Morogris (✉ • ✎) 16:14, 12 September 2026 (UTC)
- If we have put it him in the reserves page, it's fine by me. If the next team doesn't have such a page, then it should go on the main team loan section. Intruder007 (talk) 17:48, 12 September 2026 (UTC)
- Cool - let's add this player on the reserves page for Toluca. Wanna add it there? You're much better than me at posting these kind of updates. I also don't know where to check for the reserve squad group. Maybe Nihoniumaluminum knows?
- The main team article should only feature main team players (unless a reserve player has been featured in the main team at least once), or those out on loan that were featured in the main team. Morogris (✉ • ✎) 18:26, 12 September 2026 (UTC)
- I also have no problem with adding William Gabriel's loan to the club's "Reserves and Academy" page. In fact, I think it would be the most appropriate thing to do, since, as Morogris mentions, the player never debuted with the club's first team.
- As I mentioned, the player's loan is referenced, but I think it would be more appropriate for it to be listed on the page for U-21 players.
- And I believe it can no longer be accessed because his registration on the Liga MX U-21 website no longer appears, due to the player's loan to "North Texas SC".
- As far as I recall, the player was not registered with the first team on the official Liga MX website. This is contrary to his registration in the Under 21 Liga MX website, which should have appeared before his loan. Nihoniumaluminum (talk) 00:02, 13 September 2026 (UTC)
I typically use Liverpool FC as an example given it is a Featured Article. They have a section for Reserves and Academy players but all of them included there have made at least a one-time appearance with the main team, even if they are out on loan as the article has.
