Mentions of the term enbian and diamoric?

[edit]

Enbian and diamoric are both terms used by nonbinary people to refer to their attraction (Enbian for nonbinary people attracted to other nonbinary people, and diamoric to refer to the lack of 'same-gender' or 'opposite-gender' attraction due to being nonbinary. The terms are notable enough to already be within an article (linked), but aren't mentioned here; perhaps we could add them? If so, in which section? I considered the Identities section, but that primarily refers to different nonbinary gender identities, so probably Terms and definitions? I'm a bit of an amateur editor, so I wanted to reach some consensus first. kitokatxe/it/anychat? 08:14, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Also, after taking a look at the way diamoric is defined in that article, it seems to use the broader definition; not to say we should change or remove it, but are there any usable sources supporting the definition I mentioned above? So that both can be mentioned, to clear up confusion. kitokatxe/it/anychat? 08:17, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Kitokat, pinging you since this post is old. You would need to find sources to support using a different definition either here or at LGBTQ slang. The LGBTQ slang definition is supported by three citations, so you would also need to find enough sourcing to show that your definition is reasonably common and well-documented relative to the current definition. If you want to discuss the definitions used there, the best place to do that would be a post at Talk:LGBTQ slang. For now, I have copied the current definitions into Non-binary § Terms and definitions. It seems appropriate to cover this, based on ample sourcing and obvious relevance to the topic. There is no section on dating or romance but the terminology section makes sense to me. —Myceteae🍄‍🟫 (talk) 20:00, 1 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
WT:LGBTQ+ would be another good place to ask if you wanted help finding sources or more input on covering these terms. —Myceteae🍄‍🟫 (talk) 20:02, 1 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Added sub genders needed

[edit]

I am aware that there are oodles of subtypes, however, as a demiboyfluix myself, I find my gender not on this article, or any wikipedia article. Though it's true this isn't specifically a gender wiki, it's important that some of the lesser recognized genders be represented. Thank you for your consideration. ~2026-37687-74 (talk) 18:43, 1 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

The entries listed under Non-binary#Identities are restricted to those that are most common/most prominent in high quality reliable sources. Demiflux is defined under Non-binary#Demigender. We generally avoid adding less common terms as they are beyond the scope and purpose of a general audience encyclopedia. If there is good sourcing, this could be considered. We also must balance inclusion of each sub-gender or identity against other terms that may or may not be included and the relative prominence within the wider Non-binary topic. —Myceteae🍄‍🟫 (talk) 19:36, 1 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Understood. Thank you for clarifying that for me! Do you know of other open-source dictionaries that might have that in it? (Sorry, I'm doing this from a different computer.) ~2026-37749-16 (talk) 18:17, 2 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
If you are looking for dictionaries or other high quality sources that might satisfy Wikipedia's standards of reliability, in order to include more terms in this article, I do not know any specific resources of the top of my head. I suspect that genders like demiboyfluix are just not that well documented in the kind of sources we typically rely on. The other editors at WP:LGBTQ+ may have more ideas. —Myceteae🍄‍🟫 (talk) 19:01, 2 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Change "Bigender individuals possess two distinct gender identities that can manifest simultaneously or fluctuate between masculine and feminine expressions." to "Bigender inividuals possess two distinct gender identities that can manifest simultaneously or fluctuate between masculine, feminine, or nonbinary expressions." Pcbcat722 (talk) 00:58, 15 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want made. Wouldn't that be trigender as that section goes on to mention? Cannolis (talk) 03:11, 15 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
If you were masculine, feminine, AND nonbinary, that'd be trigender. But, saying that being bigender means being masculine and feminine isn't true as you can also be masculine and nonbinary, feminine and nonbinary, or two different nonbinary genders. Saying that it means being masculine and feminine is also exclusive towards bigender people who AREN'T male and female. Pcbcat722 (talk) 01:34, 16 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
The information on Wikipedia is based on reliable sources, not what you personally hold to be true. Of the sources cited after that sentence:
  • Independent says "bigender" (switching between both genders)
  • Newsweek says bigender (people who experience two gender identities, either simultaneously or varying between the two) (but note WP:NEWSWEEK)
  • Daily Dot says There's also bigender, which describes people with two gender identities (typically both male and female).
  • The psychology of sex and gender, cited later, glosses bigender as Describes people who shift between gender identities as woman and man. (p. G-1)
Based on this, our text does seem to be introducing the unstated assumption that nonbinary genders necessarily operate on a spectrum between masculinity and femininity, which the sources don't mention. Maybe we should just simplify it a bit, like: Bigender individuals possess two distinct gender identities that can manifest simultaneously or be in fluctuation. -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 14:43, 16 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
