Lakbima News is a Sri Lankan English-language news publication. It originated as a weekly newspaper established in 2007 as a sister publication of the Sinhala-language newspaper Lakbima. The historical publication was published by Sumathi Newspapers (Pvt) Ltd.[1]
History
[edit]Lakbima News was established in 2007 as an English-language sister newspaper of Lakbima. It formed part of the Lakbima newspaper group operated by Sumathi Newspapers (Pvt) Ltd.[1]
The Sri Lankan Department of Government Information's Guide to Media 2017 lists Lakbima Newspaper (Pvt) Ltd. and records lakbimanews.lk as its website.[2]
Digital operation
[edit]In 2026, Lakbima News began operating as an independently run digital publication. The current digital operation is separate from the historical corporate-controlled arm of Lakbima News, which published a weekly newspaper, while retaining the Lakbima News identity.[3]
Ravidu Mario Weerakoon is the Editor-in-Chief and Owner of the current digital operation.[4]
The digital publication covers Sri Lankan affairs as well as business, technology, science, sports, entertainment, lifestyle and international developments.[5]
