The Way of Strategy in the Book of Five Rings

The Principles

1. Do not think dishonestly.
2. The Way is in training.
3. Become acquainted with every art.
4. Know the Ways of all professions.
5. Distinguish between gain and loss in worldly matters.
6. Develop intuitive judgment and understanding for everything.
7. Perceive those things which cannot be seen.
8. Pay attention even to trifles.
9. Do nothing which is of no use.

The Way is in training. The Way for any discipline. Yeah, it seems like this should be a "duh" moment, but isn't most wisdom, when distilled down, only common-sense? Some say that genius is the talent for only seeing things as they truly are. ( about: The Book of Five RingsCollapse )

Just a thought....

A woman was asked by a coworker, "What is it like to be a Christian?" The coworker replied, "It is like being a pumpkin." God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. Then He cuts off the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff. He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, and greed. Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see."

This one was inspired by some musings on love which some friends and I have had lately...

"The heart has its reasons which reason knows nothing of."
Pascal

"Love is the irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired."
Robert Frost

"Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind."
A Midsummer Night's Dream
William Shakespeare

Starfish

~ Starfish ~

A young man was jogging on the beach one morning. He came upon an old man, bending down from time to time, picking up starfish and throwing them into the sea. As he came closer, the young man asked, "What are you doing?"
The old man answered, "There was a storm last night. Many starfish were washed high up onto the beach. If I don't throw them back, the sun and the drying, hot sand will kill them."
The young man laughed. "You are a fool, old man. The beach is miles long, and there are thousands of starfish stranded on it. You can't possibly get to them all before they die. What you are doing, old man... it just doesn't matter."
The old man regarded the youngster for a moment, then with deliberation bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it to safety among the breaking waves. "It mattered to that one!"

Love...

We all want to fall in love. Why? Because those experience makes us feel completely alive. Where every sense is heightened, every emotion is magnified, our everyday reality is shattered and we are flying into the heavens. It may only last a moment, an hour, an afternoon. But that doesn't diminish its value. Because we are left with memories that we treasure for the rest of our lives.

A double-helping today.

When griping grief the heart doth wound,
and doleful dumps the mind oppresses,
then music, with her silver sound,
with speedy help doth lend redress.

Injury from Intelligence

People with intelligence will use it to fashion things both true and false and will try to push through whatever they want with their clever reasoning. This is injury from intelligence.
Nothing you do will have effect if you do not use truth.
