I Run Bare-Metal Kubernetes on $200 of Scrap Hardware (And Why I Burned 3 SD Cards Learning)

#kubernetes #homelab #devops #talos

8 min read

@le_beltagy turned a Dell OptiPlex rescued from a recycling pile and three Raspberry Pis into a four-node Talos Linux cluster running Cilium, ArgoCD, and Longhorn. The post reads less like a tutorial and more like an autopsy, walking through five failures, including three dead SD cards, a network policy lockout, and a corrupted etcd upgrade.

Nine Months of Nagging, Zero Reading

#ai #git #githubactions #automation

7 min read

@anchildress1 spent nine months enforcing commit footers that record how much of each commit AI actually wrote, then never once read the data back. The post covers the GitHub Action built to finally score that history, the weight assigned to each footer type, and the gaps the number still leaves open.

I had two weeks, an 8-foot keyboard, and a Wordle Workflow

#temporal #codesamples #industryevents #durableexecution

10 min read

@shy recounts the two weeks spent turning a pallet-sized 8-foot USB-C keyboard and a pair of holographic fans into a working conference demo built around a Wordle clone. The post argues for modeling the durable part of a system first, which is what made it safe to keep patching everything else live for four days.

How terminal-sharing tools put your shell in a browser

#webdev #programming #productivity #cli

9 min read

@lovestaco cloned ttyd, TermPair, and sshx, then read all three to work out how they get a live shell into someone else's browser. The post traces each one from the pseudoterminal up through key delivery, encryption, and session recovery, and finds three very different answers to the same problem.

Passkeys Explained Simply

#discuss #security #api #webdev

6 min read

@thomasbnt breaks down what a passkey actually is, from the key pair your device generates to the domain binding that makes phishing so much harder to pull off. The post also tackles the question everyone asks first, which is what happens when the phone holding your keys disappears.

I Built a Chat App That Rewrites Its Own UI in Real Time

#ai #agents #webdev #productivity

9 min read

@varshithvhegde built a chat app where the model replies with raw HTML instead of markdown, so a request for Tic Tac Toe returns a playable board and a request for a Barbie theme repaints the entire interface. The post covers the streaming protocol behind it and the bugs that took days to find, including one that stayed invisible until the second message arrived.

Your RAG copilot can't count — stop letting it try

#rag #ai #llm #bedrock

6 min read

@rdiegoss digs into why a document-search copilot kept miscounting, and why that particular bug is more dangerous than a crash. Tracking down the issue meant walking every stage of the retrieval pipeline to see what each one did to the count.
