Many years ago I created a DGC (first book only) fan game, is anyone interested in helping me host it?

Also interested in anyone that might be interested in helping me create games based on the other books as well.

One of the forum administrators for the Margaret Weis Productions forums wrote in December:

"It is definitely our intention to do something with the Death Gate Cycle. It won't be for 2008, but stick around. It's on our collective plates and it will make its way onto the production schedule before too long!"

Last week, Tracy Hickman himself wrote on his forums about if a DGC RPG is still a possibility and how busy they currently are:

"This is true: we are working hard on our upcoming 'Dragonships' series which will include a number of different games. This is still on the table, however."

Looking like a good possibility, isn't it?

I was checking some Google results for words someone used to find my site, and I surprisingly turned up that someone called randomcommoner on YouTube made videos out of Death Gate cutscenes. If you haven't been able to play the game, or haven't found a download with sound, check these out! Gameplay spoilers including the very ending, so be warned.

( Cut for your convenienceCollapse )

Here I go, here I go, here I go again--

Since the old Through the Gate went *boom* earlier this year, and nobody adopted it or made another one, I broke down and applied, and got approved. I finished getting the important parts up today. So, if you're into the fanlisting thing, go hit The Death Gate Nexus. I might put the icons I made for y'all up there in "Extras" sometime, maybe make some more eventually.

My wrist hates me for doing this right after NaNoing, so that's all I got to write for tonight.

I'm determined to get this community semi-active, darnit. Here's another post for y'all.

The Fan History Wiki, a project to document the history of fan fiction/fandom communities, recently started an article for The Death Gate Cycle. I've added more information to get it going, but I thought y'all might like to know about it to at least have a read-- hopefully to contribute some edits, too! If you're not comfortable with Wiki format, you could always discuss it over here and someone can assist with getting the info up.

Something else of interest: the Keith Parkinson store is now offering a giclee print of the cover for The Hand of Chaos. It's priced at $385.00; you can get a lower-quality poster print of it or Fire Sea for $20. Check it out. I can safely say it's my favorite painting (and I don't just mean DGC painting but favorite period) so I'm probably going to break down and dig up the money for the giclee.

It's been business-as-usual in here, eh-- silent! So, for easy participation, I worked up a little poll.

Hello hello! Quiet in here as usual, eh? It's time again for one of my mostly-about-me posts!

• Site updated with the proofs to publication comparison for The Seventh Gate proofs I got back in January. (And I freshened the site colors, but that's not a content update.) Hope y'all will enjoy seeing what was changed! Most notably, the climax was reordered in the print version, and the proofs also provided more "reaction shot" type moment. There's also more characterization of Ramu and Balthazar, including some amusing moments that were cut in print.

• If you haven't seen, Tracy Hickman's DragonHearth forums include a DGC board which he very occasionally pops in at.

• The DGC wiki article, the seven book articles, and the game article all need more development, especially in the way of citations to make the articles more research-respectable. If you can help, please do!

• I'm in an odd mood to make some DG icons from the game screenshots, but I'm not sure what to make. So, if you should have any requests for a character/shot to feature, maybe a quote you'd like, I'll see what I can do. The world needs more DG! :P And speaking of quotes...

• Discussion question! What is your favorite DGC/DC quote? Is there a Saying you could live by, or that inspires you?

Hi, um, new here? I simply have a question...

I remember that a couple of years ago, I was looking at a Death Gate site. In my memories, I thought it was Tracy Hickman's site, but it's not anymore, and I could have been wrong that it ever was. It was black with radiating circles or somesuch, and had a lot of fancy graphic design... Anyway, I remember that it had a lot of worldbuilding stuff, and was fascinating. Like a fool, I didn't save any of this on my hard drive, but I would really love to find that site again. Does anyone remember this site, or know what I'm talking about? (Or whether any of the information is still available anywhere online?)

FYI-- Margaret Weis Productions has been auctioning off lots of stuff, including Death Gate books. Three days left (from now) to bid on autographed, uncorrected proofs for:

Dragon Wing: [link]

Elven Star: [link]

Hand of Chaos: [link]

I won auctions for Fire Sea, Serpent Mage, and Hand of Chaos on Monday afternoon-- and here I am Friday afternoon already squeeing over them. :) If you win multiple auctions, they'll combine the shipping (in nicely bubble-wrapped-every-inch packaging.) I got a free Choose Your Own Adventure book I'd never heard of included with mine.

I've only looked over the outsides of the proofs so far, but I can already tell you they're a very cool thing to get as a DGC fan.

AbeBooks.com also has some available through various booksellers. My Seventh Gate order also arrived today from seller alottabooks.com, and the condition was as described-- physically in great shape, but with some soiling that might displease collectors in it for the resell value. I just want the books, so I don't care that much!

I've got Dragon Wing and Elven Star on order from other sellers, so that'll just leave Into the Labyrinth to complete my set. When I have more information about the inside contents, I'll let you guys know. Since they're uncorrected, they note that people wanting to quote from them (like advance reviewers) should check against the published version. I'll be thoroughly combing them for differences ;)

Sorry to make another self-pimpingesque post, but I figured some of y'all would want to know that I now have tons of screenshots up on my DGC site thanks to DOSbox. WOO! They're in the Game Characters section. Hope that'll help with your icon-making needs or general interest in seeing what the game looked like. :)

I'm debating whether or not to include voice samples. I've previously made some short clips of several characters, so I have them on hand. Death Gate (the game that is) material seems to be very up for grabs-- heck, even Hickman himself posted a response in his newsletter about how to find it for download online! I figure if one of the authors cheerfully recognizes it as abandonware and thus free from cease-and-desist warnings and such, it's good enough for me. Still, the images alone are enough to get a big slap if whoever currently owns the rights wakes up and decides they want to enforce them. No clue who actually owns it these days. Thoughts on how to handle it?

Happy holidays and if you don't care about any of them-- have a good day!
