for fans of Diana Gabaldon and her work
Welcome to the Diana Gabaldon fan community!

This community is for all the fans of Ms. Gabaldon and her wonderful series of historical fiction/time travel/romance novels

OUTLANDER SERIES:
Outlander (Cross Stitch in Britain)
Dragonfly in Amber
Voyager
Drums of Autumn
The Fiery Cross
A Breath of Snow and Ashes
An Echo in the Bone

Companion volume: The Outlandish Companion (Through the Stones in Britain)

These not-so-slim volumes contain the on-going saga of Claire Beauchamp and Jamie Fraser -- of love which spans the centuries -- and of the curious twists and turns that make their lives interesting.

Claire, a WWII combat nurse, inadvertently touches a stone in the Scottish Highlands of 1946, and is instantly transported back in time to the year 1743. For a time, she tries desperately to return to her husband and her own time, but almost against her will, she falls in love with dashing young Scotsman Jamie Fraser. With the threat of Culloden looming not far in their future, Claire must reveal her secret to her new husband, and try to discover whether the past can be changed.

LORD JOHN GREY MYSTERIES:
Hellfire (short story)
Lord John and the Succubus (novella)
Lord John and the Private Matter
Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade
Lord John and the Haunted Soldier Novella (novella)
Lord John and the Scotish Prisoner (to be written)
Lord John und the Hand of Devils (Collection of "Hellfire, Succubus and Haunted Soldier)

Lord John Grey is a Major in the British army, a younger brother of the current Lord Melton. He's a man of honor, and a man coping with homosexuality in the 18th century. John Grey is one of the favourite Outlander characters, and we are getting the opportunity to learn more about what he's doing when he's not interacting with Jamie and Claire.

This is a place to discuss, rant, rave, review!
What's your favourite scene? Who's your favourite character? What do you JUST KNOW is going to happen in some future volume, and can't wait for it? Who's the most delicious villan? If you were casting an Outlander movie or miniseries, who would play what roles?

Rules:

If you have problems getting approved to join the community, please read this post: http://community.livejournal.com/craighnaduhn/247099.html

1) Be polite. We are all decent, civilized people here, so let's try and act like it.

2) Please try to stay on topic.

3) Try not to bash any characters. Talking about Laoghaire only as "Leg Hair" stopped being funny and witty years ago.

4) No more then 3 previews when you post Icons. More Icons as well as other big pictures have to go behind a cut.
It is also rather impolite if you link to a multifandom post when there are only a few Icons related to Outlander. Please post them as a entry of their own to this community.

5) There are Newbies joining all the time, so be aware that it is nice to put spoilers behind an LJ cut, but this rule will not be enforced for any book that has been out longer than a year.

6) No Quiz results that are not related to Outlander. (And if a Outlander Quiz gets posted please rather comment with your result in an existing post then open a new one)

7) No Promotion of other LJ Communities. (If you do have an Outlander related community, contact the moderators, we will link you here in the profile.)
Addendum 12/24/2008: No promotion of the fan history wiki. If we discover you promoting or using a bot to promote this, you will earn yourself a one week ban. Any repeat offenders will receive a perma-ban.

8)No promotion of Facebook Activity, Interest, or Group pages. This is not Facebook and we don't want it to be. (If you do have an Outlander related Facebook source, contact the moderators, we will link you here in the profile.)

9) Regarding activites that are not directly related to Diana Gabaldon and her books but are still related to the overall theme of the books (Renaissance Fairs, Time Traveler Days, etc): Please provide a brief description and place the remaining information under a lj-cut. Entries without a lj-cut will be deleted.

10) If you post an entry please use only bold or cursive text to mark things. We do not allow entries with text in different colors or fonts.

11) Fan-Art (artwork, icons, etc) is welcome, but...
Diana Gabaldon's policy regarding fan-fiction:

"Fan-Fiction Policy

You know, I'm very flattered that some of you enjoy the books so much that you feel inspired to engage with the writing in a more personal way than most readers do. Both for legal and personal reasons, though, I'm not comfortable with fan-fiction based on any of my work, and request that you do not write it, do not send it to me, and do not publish it, whether in print or on the web. Thank you very much for your consideration."

Here is her blog post detailing her discussions with fan-fiction authors and what lead to her decision: http://voyagesoftheartemis.blogspot.com/2010/05/fan-fic-iii-final-word
