Gingersnap Cookies with Orange Zest

I whipped these up yesterday for teachers and staff at my child's school. It might be too late for that, but it doesn't meant you shouldn't make some for yourself! I'm actually making another batch right now - the extra dozen I made are gone, baby, gone.

What's the Christmas cookie staple in your house?

Savory Oatmeal

In honor of the first day of Winter, I wanted to make a yummy warm breakfast. Usually we make our oatmeal sweet, but I am a fan of savory oatmeal, so I'll share my super easy recipe with you here.

Ingredients:
1/4 white onion chopped
1/2 T butter
Oatmeal (whatever kind you normally use for the stovetop - I use quick oats from Quaker)
Water or Milk (depending on what you like with your oatmeal - follow package directions)
1 Egg cracked into a small bowl
1/2 T Lemon Juice
Dash of dried Italian Herbs
Dash of fresh ground Pepper
Smidge of Grated cheese

Directions:
Cook onions in pot with butter
After onions are soft, add water to pot, bring to a boil
Add oats to pot, lower heat, cook until desired texture
Add a dash of Italian herbs and pepper to taste
Meanwhile...
In a separate pot, Poach an egg - (I don't have an egg poacher so this is how I do it: fill small non stick pot with less than an inch of water, add about 1/2 T of lemon juice, bring water to a boil, crack egg in a small bowl, add egg to boiling water, return water to a boil then cover and promptly remove pot from heat, poach single egg for about 3 minutes, remove with slotted spoon)
Put the oatmeal in a bowl, poached egg on top, sprinkled with grated cheese
YUMMY!

Dough bowl?

My mom used to have this vintage looking large mixing bowl that she made dough in. It was I guess ceramic, glazed on the outside but the inside was a bit rough (that may just have been from wear). It was off white and had blue stripes around it- I think there was one or two thin stripes. I'm currently looking for it :)

Anyway, I was wondering if what you rise dough in had any correlation with the result? Mom made the most fantastic rolls/bread and I'm wondering if its just HER technique/experience, or that bowl was magic XD

What do YOU use to rise dough in? Any recommendations? I'm just curious!
