You built the 10-inch mini rack, bolted in a switch and a mini PC, and now you are staring at a mostly empty frame wondering what actually goes in the rest of it. This is the part nobody writes up: the shelves, patch panel, brush and blank panels, and cable bars that turn a bare 254mm cabinet into something tidy you are not embarrassed to open in front of people. The catch is that most “rack accessories” on Amazon are built for a full 19-inch rack and physically will not fit a 10-inch one, and the search results mix the two with almost no warning.
A 10-inch rack is 254mm wide on the outside, and the mounting rails inside are far narrower than a 19-inch rack’s. A standard 1U blanking plate or shelf simply does not span the rails. So the whole game here is buying accessories made specifically for the DeskPi RackMate and GeeekPi ecosystem, or the DIGITUS 10-inch line, and knowing the one fastener detail that trips up everyone coming from a big rack.

Before you add anything to a cart, read the fastener section near the end, because a 10-inch rack does not use the M6 cage nuts a 19-inch rack does, and buying the wrong screw kit is the single most common mistake here.
How I chose these
Every item here is confirmed to physically fit a 10-inch (254mm) rack, either from the manufacturer’s own product page or the explicit “10 inch” and “254mm” in the listing title, cross-checked against the live Amazon stock the week this went out. I deliberately left out anything sized for a 19-inch rack even when the photo looked close, because it will not span the rails. Prices move, so treat every number below as a band and click through for the live figure.
I did not buy all six at once for a bench shootout. What I have done is live with a DeskPi RackMate long enough to learn which of these you actually reach for (a shelf and a blank panel first, a patch panel the day you run more than three cables) and which look tidy in photos but sit unused. Where a spec depends on the exact RackMate model or a depth you need to measure yourself, I say so rather than pretending one number fits every rack.

1. GeeekPi 0.5U Vented Shelf: best half-U tray
Most of what goes in a mini rack does not have rack ears: a Raspberry Pi, a NUC-class mini PC, a bare SSD, a USB hub. This is where they live. It is a cantilever tray, meaning it bolts to the front rails only and needs no support at the back, and it takes just half a U, so you can stack two in the vertical space a single full shelf would eat. The vented deck matters more than it sounds, because a Pi 5 or an NVMe enclosure sitting on solid steel in a closed cabinet runs hot.
Who it is for: anyone with a Pi, a mini PC or loose drives that need a home in the rack without wasting a full U on each.
Skip it if: your gear is heavy. A cantilever tray this shallow is rated for light equipment, not a full mini-ITX box; for that, use the DIGITUS shelf below. One fitment catch worth knowing: this tray fits the T0 and T1 RackMate but not the wider T2, so check your cabinet model before you order. It is about 200mm deep too, so measure your rack’s usable depth, some of the smaller cabinets are tighter than that once the door is on. Around $19, check the live price.
2. DIGITUS 1U 10-inch Shelf: best heavy shelf
When the thing you are shelving has real weight, a small NAS, a heavier mini PC, an external drive stack, you want a full 1U shelf that mounts solidly, not a thin cantilever tray. This DIGITUS one is perforated sheet steel, 150mm deep, and it is one of the few genuine 10-inch (254mm) shelves from a known networking brand rather than an unbranded tray. It is the sturdiest thing on this list, and the obvious home for a compact box running a couple of NAS drives.

Who it is for: a small NAS, a heavier mini PC, or anything you do not want flexing on a thin tray.
Skip it if: you only have a Pi to mount, in which case the half-U GeeekPi tray is cheaper and leaves you more space. At 150mm it is shallower than the GeeekPi tray, so confirm your deepest item fits before ordering. Around $35, check the live price.
3. GeeekPi 12-Port Cat6 Patch Panel: best patch panel
The day you run more than about three cables into a rack, a patch panel stops being optional. Instead of a switch with a knot of long, differently coloured leads hanging off it, you punch your permanent runs down to the back of this panel once, then use short patch leads from the front to the switch. Move a device, swap a lead, and you never disturb the run in the wall. This one is a 0.5U panel with twelve Cat6 keystone positions, sized for the RackMate and other 10-inch cabinets.
Who it is for: anyone running structured cabling into the rack who wants the runs terminated and labelled instead of loose.
Skip it if: you only have a switch and two devices sitting next to it; a patch panel is overkill until you have runs going to other rooms. Check the listing for whether it ships with the twelve Cat6 keystones loaded or as a blank panel you populate yourself, and budget a punch-down tool if you do not already own one. 4. GeeekPi 1U Brush Panel: best cable pass-through
If cables need to cross from the front of the rack to the back, a brush panel is the clean way to do it. The bristled slot lets any bundle through while closing the gap behind them, so you do not have a ragged rectangular hole with cables sawing on a steel edge. It also keeps the front looking finished. This is a 1U version for the 10-inch rack, with a full-width brush strip.
Who it is for: any rack where cables pass through the mounting plane and you want it to look deliberate.
Skip it if: your cabling stays entirely on one side of the rails; then a plain blank panel does the tidying for less. It is a 1U part, so it costs you a full unit of height for what is mostly cosmetic tidiness, weigh that against your space. Low-teens, check the live price.
5. GeeekPi 0.5U Cable Bar: best front routing
This is the cheapest tidiness upgrade you can make. A horizontal bar with three D-ring hooks that mounts across the front of the rack, so patch leads run along it instead of drooping in a loop between the switch and the patch panel. In half a U it turns a spaghetti front into neat horizontal lines. I fit one right below the switch and route every lead through the middle ring.
Who it is for: anyone with more than a couple of patch leads on the front who wants them lying flat instead of looping.
Skip it if: you route everything vertically or have so few cables that a couple of velcro ties do the job. Three D-rings is enough for a small rack; a busy front may want two of these. Around $11, check the live price.
6. GeeekPi 1U Vented Blank Panel: best cheap finish
Empty U spaces look unfinished and, in a cabinet with any active cooling, they let air short-circuit straight through instead of being pulled across your gear. A blank panel fixes both for the price of a coffee. This vented version does double duty: it closes the gap and its slots still pass some air, which is what you want in a passively cooled mini rack. Buy two or three and fill every open U.
Who it is for: every 10-inch rack. Blanks are the last five percent that makes a build look intentional.
Skip it if: you honestly have no empty U left, which almost never happens. If your rack has a real fan pulling air, a solid (unvented) blank forces more of that air across the gear; the vented one is the right call for passive builds. Sub-$10, check the live price.
A few more worth knowing about
Three others come up often enough to mention, though they did not make the core list. If you need two trays, the GeeekPi 2-pack 1U shelf works out cheaper per tray than buying singles. For a tidier cable entry than the brush panel, the half-U GeeekPi cable-entry panel is a neater look if you can spare the extra spend. And there is a dedicated Raspberry Pi 5 rack mount that brings the Pi’s ports to the front like a real appliance, but it is often scarce and priced well above a plain shelf, so I only reach for it when the front-panel access genuinely matters.
The fastener trap: 10-inch racks do not use M6
This is the detail that catches everyone arriving from a full-size rack, and it is worth more than any single panel above. A 19-inch rack uses square holes, cage nuts, and M6 screws: you clip a cage nut into the rail and thread an M6 bolt into it. A DeskPi RackMate and the GeeekPi 10-inch cabinets do not work that way at all. They use tapped strips with round threaded holes, and the screw is a #10-32, the same UNF thread a 19-inch rack uses for its threaded (non-cage) rails, not a metric M6.
So the popular move of buying a bag of “rack screws and cage nuts” to have spares will leave you with the wrong hardware: the cage nuts have nothing to clip into, and M6 bolts do not thread cleanly into a #10-32 hole. If you run short of screws, buy the DeskPi #10-32 screws made for these cabinets or a generic #10-32 5/16-inch pack, and skip the M6 cage-nut kits entirely. The accessories above ship with their own mounting screws, so for a first build you usually do not need extras at all; this only bites when you go looking for spares and grab a 19-inch kit out of habit.
Cooling: a fan panel or a bit of DIY
You have real off-the-shelf options here, despite what a first search suggests. GeeekPi makes a 1U rack-mount fan unit sized for the RackMate, four fans in a row, for around $60, and ElecVoztile sells a cheaper 1U fan panel, about $45, that fits the same 10-inch rails. Either one bolts into a U like any other panel and gives you active airflow without a project. Check the live price on both.
If a whole powered panel is more than you need, the cheapest active option is GeeekPi’s own USB rack cooling fan, a single 120mm fan with a three-speed switch, around $14, that clips in and runs off any USB port. Or go fully DIY: a couple of 40mm or 60mm fans, or a USB-powered Noctua, zip-tied to a vented shelf or blank panel and aimed to pull warm air up and out. Pair any of these with the vented shelves and blanks above so the air has somewhere to move, and a passively built mini rack full of a Pi, a switch and a mini PC stays comfortably cool. If your gear runs hotter than that, it usually wants a bigger rack, not a bigger fan.
What about power?
I left power distribution out of this guide on purpose, because it is a topic of its own and the good 10-inch options deserve more than a line. What I would actually buy
For a fresh 10-inch build, I would start with two things: a GeeekPi vented shelf for whatever does not rack-mount, and a couple of vented blank panels to close the gaps, which together cost less than thirty dollars and instantly make the rack look finished. Add the cable bar the moment you have more than a couple of leads on the front. The patch panel and DIGITUS shelf come later, when you are running real cable to other rooms or shelving something with weight. Buy the accessories made for a 10-inch rack, keep a few #10-32 screws on hand rather than a 19-inch cage-nut kit, and the small stuff stops being the annoying part of the build.
