Levi Fuller $7 - Doors at 8pm! 11th August 2005Head of Femur (mem. of Bright Eyes), Spinto Band, Dear Darling & Transistor Heart
Delaware sextet Spinto Band is in the prime vein of musical prowess. Utilizing an indie-pop sensibility that brings to mind the Flaming Lips and Pavement, their songs can send you careening into the heights of lysergic bliss or provide the catchiest vibes to shake your tail feather to. Either way, this six-piece outfit has the goods to deliver us all from the doldrums of banality. 24th June 2005Hey everyone - Tonight, Izabelle is playing at The Paradox - should be a great show. We're happy to have them for the first time in our new venue. ( more infoCollapse ) June 4, 2005 - 8:00pm - $7 Some By Sea Mobius Band Verona Some By Sea's decisively pop escapades are a swirling mix of instrumentation and delicately balanced male/female vocals. Lead singer Chris Du Bray carves wonderful lovelorn vignettes reminiscent of the narrative stylings of Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard and Weakerthans’ songsmith John Samson. A beautiful melancholy, the group’s approach to songwriting allows the even the hardest of hearts to melt. Speaker Speaker! About the Dandelion Method: "...You get the impression that [The Dandelion Method] just decided to pick up a bunch of instruments and see what came of it. In this case, something rather cool happened....There is a definite emphasis on musical interplay but also on vocal harmonizing. The band enjoys performing and carries themselves as though they have something important to say, even when they don't." -Tablet "Sounds, strings and vocals flow and blend into tight melodies as five musicians bear their souls in honest, real, articulate words..." -- The Falcon "The Dandelion Method is the type of bittersweet indie-pop that can give a listener chills..." -Never Get Over You "Unabashed pop" - The Seattle Post-Intelligencer 8th February 2005Thanks to everyone who came to the February 4th benefit show. The Glasses, Black Nite Crash, Martian Memo to God, The Jailbirds Learn to enjoy the smart indie-flavored pop that is The Glasses' birthright (and if you haven't already, you may as well go check out the fine webzine at least some of the band members contribute to, nadamucho.com). Moving from dark noise to pop melodics, Seattle's Black Nite Crash creates a dynamic wall of energy and sound. Beauty and anger and inspiration. The group's live performances always promise to be dizzying and intense rock and roll experiences. Opening are locals Martian Memo to God and The Jailbirds. 14th January 2005Trying trying trying to be regular (ha!) about posting shows. So, here goes... Let's make this a New Year's resolution. To post all upcoming shows! Here's the first: January 21, 2005 - 8:00pm - $7 Suffering and the Hideous Thieves, Supine to Sit and more Musically, Suffering and the Hideous Thieves is a jaw-dropping wonder: a heaving, cascading flow of orchestral arrangements that conjures a less drugged-out Spiritualized, a less festive Firewater, a redemptionless Delgados. Eight musicians thunder and roil as guitars, violins, keyboards, and drums thrash out heady elation and remorse in tandem, because those emotions inevitably come packaged together, no matter how hard the manufacturer schemes to disguise their pairing. This is a benefit for our good friend Kevin Barrans; drummer of Suffering and the Hideous Thieves and the President of Seattle's own Moped Army. Kevin was recently seriously injured in a moped wreck. All proceeds will be going to help Kevin and his ridiculous medical bills. Check out the Moped Army website - they're selling buttons - all the money helps out. 13th December 2004December 17, 2004 - 8:00pm The Pale Late Tuesday (EP Release Party) Common Heroes $8 If The O.C. has name-checked Bright Eyes and Death Cab for Cutie just a little too much for your liking, reclaim some indie cred by spinning the third release from the Pale. The Northwest's latest rock hype is a pleasant pop gem, full of jangly guitars and mid-tempo tunes with chilled-out keyboards punctuating singer Gabe Archer's often frail lyrics. The kids might call it emo, but you'll realize that the Pale isn't part of that trend... When Gravity pulls it together with sunshine-covered Beach Boys melodies and a lot of bouncing pop, the job gets done. 11th November 200419th August 2004Hey y'all...
