7:37 pm - hehe...just a random note that was really funny to me...

I was walking to our local railway museum in a business suit and heels (to drop off a resume)
and it started to rain, but I had my umbrella, so I opened it...
and then the wind started REALLY hard...and I honestly thought it was going to lift me off the ground a few inches...
and then it turned inside out...:P
Is it just me that never expected that to actually happen? Like...it kind of seems like something that ONLY happens in movies...
and only in big cities when the character is having a bad day...
Like, I didn't think that umbrellas could actually turn themselves inside out...I thought movies just did that to show that they were having a REALLY bad day :P
Meh...as it was happening, I just couldn't stop laughing at how I must look to passing cars, it was the highlight of my day, and gave me quite a laugh :P

Tomorrow...
is....
the...
PAGEANT!!!
Today was my interview with the judges...and as soon as I walked in there and saw Rene Newhouse (1986 Miss Canada) I was like "Wow...I had a FEELING she'd be judging this!"
Then after the interview (which I was RELIEVED to finish. I stumbled over/got stuck on a few questions) we had a dinner with the judges, and we got presents and cards, and Candice and Christy gave farewell speeches, and everyone cried...and when they cried, they had to blow bubbles...and I was one of the only ones who didn't need bubbles...and then when I read my card from Mrs Penner, and it said "your Grandma would be so proud of you" I almost needed bubbles...
But later, I went and told Denise
"You were my princess, in my interview" and we both BAWLED!
and then Loree gave us all video montages that she made of how far we've come, and she made us all promise we'd watch them tonight, so I went home and watched it and it was amazing :)
I'm gonna miss everything...the Sunday rehearsals, the Toastmasters (which I already miss), the dance rehearsals, spending so much time with everyone...wow...:( it's sad that it's over...
but this weekend is going to be so exciting and fast paced no matter what the result...and right now, I can honestly say I don't care if I win or lose...every one of us deserves to win, because as corny and stereotypical as it sounds...
We're all winners...:)

9:21 pm - Last night was amazing! :)

As part of the Sweetheart program I have previously posted about, we had to go through toastmasters, for public speaking skills. Well, last night was our speaking debut!
I spoke for like 2 minutes and 45 seconds in front of a ballroom full of people (my mom estimates that it was more than 140 people), without stumbling over my words, shaking, or messing up at all.
Kathy Simon, one of the toast masters that helped us out a lot, has liked my speech right from the very beginning, and she came up to me afterward and said I completely nailed it :).
Our speeches were judged last night, and the person with the best speech gets an award at the pageant, but we don't find out who wins that until it's given to them...but Kathy said she knows I'm in the top 3...so I'm crossing my fingers, everyone cross theirs for me too :P
There's a more detailed entry in my journal, so you'll have to check that out...there's lots more in there than here.
There are so many little things though about last night that made it special...especially that my Grandpa was probably looking down at me very proud, because back in grade 5 I was in a toastmasters youth program thing, and he was so proud that I had an interest in public speaking, which is something he always wished he would have been able to do. I'm doing the speaking for both of us, and I know he'd be very proud of me :)

Okay, so I was just sitting in my room, working things out with ballots, and I had my phone book open, and I decided, out of the blue:
"I'm going to call the guy I like right now and ask him to that Sweethearts ball...I have to do it anyway..."
So I looked up his phone number (I'm actually very surprised I don't know that off by heart :P) and called, only pausing after the 6th number to tell my mom not to use the phone or disturb me for the next few minutes...and then I finished all at once...
So his dad answered and I asked for him and he said "just a sec" and I heard him calling him...for a while...then he came back and said he wasn't home, but that he'd get him to phone me...I tried to say I'd call back, and asked when he'd be home, and his dad said "Well, I thought he was home now, so I don't know, I'll just get him to call you"
So I left my name and number, and called some people telling them "I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry...this is...interesting...lol...I'll actually be able to say 'Bob called me' but what if I'm not ready when he calls...? I was ready when I called...aahhh!"
Then when I was on the phone with my friend from out of town, he beeped in, and I knew it'd be him...
So I answered, and he said "hey kayla...it's "Bob", you called?" and then I asked him what he was doing Sam Steele Weekend...and he asked "What weekend is that?" (and I though...what the heck...? you've lived in Cranbrook your entire life and don't know Sam Steele weekend is the third weekend in June? :P) and he said he either has a violin exam that weekend (out of town) or he'll be studying madly for it...he said he's pretty sure he's out of town, because he has to rearrange his finals so he can go...
But you all have to be SUPER proud of me for calling so spontaneously :P I'm very proud...(maybe it was the jealousy...lol)
aaaanywho :P
I'm in the midst of talking to Adam, my escort from the coming out ball, and he's gonna be my escort to this ball too :)

Oh wow...either this is the SINGLE most touching story I have ever been told...or I'm just a complete sap...
Or maybe it's both...because holy crap...
Okay, there's this children's festival in town once a year in May, and as Sweetheart candidates, we work there in our gowns and banners. It's one of the first things we do in the community, and apparently, Mrs Penner says we are completely idolized by little girls that day...and we have the opportunity to make a difference to them...They will want to hug us, and have us pick them up, and they will be so happy to see us...
So Mrs. Penner told us about a specific Children's festival back when someone my mom's age was running for sweetheart, and while she was telling us, I was getting very teary eyed...getting a lump in my throat, the whole works...but I didn't want to cry in front of that many people...but later, when I was telling my mom, I actually cried (and she did too.)
Okay, so it was the end of the festival, and everyone was leaving, and this little girl and her brothers came and sort of stopped the whole group of sweetheart people helping at the time...and her and her brothers were wearing sweatpants and gumboots, and very dirty...
And the little girl had a ribbon she had one somewhere that day, and she handed it to Frankie Reekie (who ended up getting princess that year)...and this is the way Mrs. Penner described it, and this is what almost made me cry...
"She was saying 'I'm not a princess today, I'm not all dressed up, but I have a ribbon, and that means I'm special...but I want you to have it'..."
(I don't think the little girl actually said that, but that's how Mrs. Penner described the moment...)
And I was like..."holy crap..." wow...
And apparently Frankie Reekie wore that on her sash for the rest of the year...
I would too...I don't think I could ever forget that little girl...that would be the most flattering thing ever...
I totally cried while telling my mom about that...that is just the most touching thing I have ever heard...wow...

HEllooooo!!!
As a new friend of hartofsilver's, and heck, this actually sounds like a great community, I figured I might as well try this out.
My name is Carl, Kya, Ice, or Dione - whatever works for you. I'm 15, about to become 16 in May, and I live in the Northwest part of the U.S.
Goodness, my memory is so bad, and I know I have such a blur of good memories...let me see if I can find the words for the very best one...
I think it was with my grandfather, long before he died and when I was a little kid. I can't place the exact day, but we were always hiking, shopping, cooking, and such, together, and I'll always have those images of complete happiness trapped in my mind. I miss him a lot.... ^_^
Anyway...I must be off now, but I bet I'll have something to say tomorrow! ^_~

Hi...I'm Cassie DeSena. I'm 19, and from Manhattan (New York City). I have so many amazing memories, about everything from my family to my friends to my insane life, but this one is actually about my boyfriend...I guess I'll just start. and ramble. :D
Mike and I grew up together- best friends our whole lives, ever since we were kids. Always there for each other, talking, joking around. He is three years older than me, and I got to watch him go through high school and stuff. It was a great friendship. Than, when he was 18, and I was 15, he decided to join the Marines, and go to college through them. The day he left for boot camp was the hardest day of my life.
Over the next four years, Mike and my relationship changed. We stayed close, but it was so much more than that. I graduated from high school and went to college, and Mike was sent to Japan. And I came to realize that I had fallen in love with my best friend. And he had fallen in love with me. That crazy, intense love that comes around once in a lifetime, the love that only some people get to experience.
Now- the best part- Mike has been gone for four years, and he comes home from Japan on Friday, and we will really, really, really get to be together. I cant wait.
Thanks for listening for this ramble!

Hi, I thought I'd do an introduction post, since I created the community...
I'm Kayla Hart, and I'm 16 years old. I live in BC, Canada, and I have had so many really great memories lately that I have no clue what to tell you about...
I think I'll just quickly tell you about my weekend, because that was basically what made me start the community.
On Saturday night, I had a big banquet and ball thrown pretty much for me and 11 other girls. It's for the Sweetheart program, which is about 5 months of training in quite a few areas, that ends in a pageant for the "Sam Steele Sweetheart". Basically the ball was where we were "formally introduced to Cranbrook society as the 2004 youth ambassadors/Sam Steele Sweetheart candidates".
The night was amazing. When I first got to the hall we were meeting at for pictures, everyone's gowns (we have an 1890's style gown made for us) were so amazing, and blew me away. Then Christy (the reigning Sweetheart) gave me (and everyone else, but they were given whenever you got there, not all at once) a card that was really encouraging :) it basically said to enjoy the memories I will be making, and to keep smiling. It was from her and the other reigning royalty, Candace.
When we got there, we came through the door on the arm of our father (although, I didn't have one, so I asked one of my teachers to be my father for the night)
and when we got in, everyone was standing up and clapping, and just the sight of my four friends, and escort, and everyone who came for me just made me smile so big.
Then I sat down to find a stuffed animal and card on my table from Loree (one of the women who works with us in the program, she's the best :)!) and the card was so sweet. We used to be in the same dance school, so she said "I can still picture you as a tiny ballerina, and can hardly believe you're already a young woman." and went on to say she's proud of me for challenging myself to do this, and hopes I'm proud of myself too. She said the stuffed animal was to remind me that I can count on her to be there if I need her. Then I looked around and saw the same stuffy on every other table :) It was so amazing that Loree would go through all that trouble for us...wow...
Later, after dinner, we were walked around the room by our fathers again, while a bio on us was read, and ended up in front of Christy and Candace. Christy gave me my banner/sash that says my name, and the name of my sponsor, and as she put it on, she said "This banner represents who you are and what you stand for". Then Candace gave me a beautiful pink rose, and put a red heart on my banner :)
Then we sat in a semi-circle with Christy and Candace, and when everyone had gotten there (I was 2nd to last so I didn't have to wait long) there was a chance for everyone to take photos, and I was so excited that the smile plastered on my face was NOT fake :)
Then we had a recieving line where everyone came up and shook our hands and talked to us. Someone came through and told me I had a beautiful smile, and it was very expressive or something like that...
Then there was a dance, and after that, we quickly went to boston pizza...
But wow...that was a very exciting night :)
Then today, we found out that we were evaluated during our walk around the room with our fathers, and the evaluators told us how we did...
wow...I was so happy with my comments...I don't think I have ever felt that warm and fuzzy inside from compliments :)
Melissa told me I was one of her favorites, with my great smile, and smooth walk, and lots of confidence...
And Lorinda told me that she wrote down "Wow" twice while I was walking. She said I really showed that I was proud to be there, and that I was sincerely happy.
Tonight was good too. I had family night for bugle band, and I got promoted from a Master Corporal to a Sergeant!
so now I get an extra stripe and a chord on my uniform :)
~~~~
Anyway, sorry I rambled, but that's what this community is for, to ramble on about how amazing something made you feel, and to get encouragement :)
