I've created two new communites and would like to invite other Christian women to join. Both communities are brand new, so there aren't many members if any just yet, but my deepest hope is that these two communities flourish and fill a need in the Christian community. Please check them out and tell your friends about them. The more women women who join the more spiritually uplifting these two communities can be.

| New Prayer Group! |

I created a community called Celebrity Spotlight Ministries. I used to have a yahoo group and a website by the same name and both became defunct but I again feel a desire to start the whole thing up again, but this time I decided to do it on LJ since I'm here so much more than yahoogroups.
Celebrity Spotlight Ministries is a prayer group for those of us who believe that Hollywood is a mission field and just as important as Africa or the unsaved guy next door. It's where we pray for all of those who influence our world and not just Hollywood. We pray for movie and music stars, sports stars, politicians, authors, religious leaders, etc.
When I was saved at the age of 16, I immediately felt the desire to begin praying for some of my favorite actors and singers. I guess I wanted them to have the same joy that I had found. =D It didn't seem that odd to me so I was shocked when other Christians began acting as if what I was doing was a waste of time or weird. As a new Christian, I didn't understand how praying for anyone could be considered a waste of time (and now, 15 years later, I still don't get it).
Then a devotional came out called Praying for the World's 365 Most Influential People which offered daily devotionals, and each day focused on a different influential person (Oprah, Marilyn Manson, Bill Clinton, Michael W. Smith, Billy Graham, etc) along with prayer points to give you ideas as to what to pray for. I also began coming across websites such as Hollywood Jesus and the Hollywood Prayer Network. I realized that there are indeed, other Christians who want to pray for Christians and non-Christians within the entertainment industry.
I decided to create a prayer group where we could come together for fellowship and prayer and besides those in the entertainment field, I added politicians, religious leaders, sports figures and authors into the mix. Whether we like it or not, all those groups influence society; some for good and some for bad. The Non Christians need prayer for salvation and the Christians need prayer for strength and wisdom because being in the spotlight isn't easy, especially if you're a Christian and people want to point out your every move and every mistake you make.
I call my prayer group Celebrity Spotlight Ministries because we pray for those in the spotlight and whether it's good or bad, all those individuals, including politicians and religious people are "celebrities."
At my community, we can also discuss movies, music, offer up individual prayer requests and praises for ourselves and loved ones, and I may post a weekly scripture that we can study together. I think it's important for us to not only stand together in prayer for influential people, but it's also important for us to fellowship and be there for one another.

I was looking at my cat today, thinking of how much I love him and I thought about making a journal where everyone could do JUST that. So I decided to create a new community for us.
Do you have something to say to your cat(s)? Do they need a little reminding to NOT wake you up at 5am? Or would you just like to simply say how much you love them?

It is almost time to start that new Bible Reading plan. If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to read the entire Bible in the coming year, come and join us.

Post the scripture that touched you today or what you may have learned today. Tell us if this is the first time you have decided to read the entire Bible in a year or if you have done this before.
This community believes that the scriptures are the inerrant word of the one and only true God. If you don't believe this, that's fine. Join and read with us any way. However there is going to be NO discussion of this. There are other good Christian communities for that kind of discussion. |

Hello. I just wanted to introduce myself and my community. I am Elizabeth and I am a Christian. And I love livejournal.

It has no members other than myself, unfortunately, but it is based off the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series. My goal for it is to deliver a Christian message and values. It is not a religious community, but I hope it will have shared stories that inspire and perhaps influence spirituality, selflessness and generosity. I hope to gain some members and some stories will be posted soon. :)

The rest of you are all ahead of me.
Do not feel like you have to wait until the group is finished before you start. Start and jump right in. The people in this community will not all be reading the same book and chapter at the same time. We are all in different places. Begin at the beginning of which ever reading plan you have chosen. Post and tell us that you are beginning what plan. We will be glad to have you and encourage you on your journey.
What about questions?
Questions are fine but debate is not. This needs to be a place of encouragement only. Debate is good. I enjoy it but there are other good Christians communities for debate and discussion. Lets just use this as a place to go for encouragement in this goal of reading the entire Bible in a year.

What to share?
We are going to discuss things like the top ten best movies of all time, favorite television shows from your childhood, songs that bring memories, favorite books to read when you just want to escape, favorite comfort foods. Fun things.
Plain fun.
No debate or at least ugly debate. I love political debate and I love to discuss Christianity, but this is not the place for it. This is just a place to relax and actually get to know one another. Fun debate would be great.
This is a PG forum. Keep it clean so that everyone can enjoy it. |
