Bug Description

I would like to use a plain (no obstructions) opaque green landscape instead of the existing landscapes which have trees, grass, rocks, etc. Why - So I can distinguish between what is below and above the horizon.

See Screen Capture - https://www.dropbox.com/s/f0myv9ius6l5o1d/Capture6.tiff?dl=0

Thanks for listening.

In case you are using windows 7:

Visit C:\Program Files (maybe with x86)\Stellarium\landscapes

Find a directory "geneva"

In another explorer session, go to directory: C:\Users\<your-user-name>\AppData\Roaming\Stellarium

This is your personal Stellarium data directory.

Create a subfolder "landscapes"

Copy the directory "geneva" from the program directory to your personal landscape subfolder.
Enter the landscape subfolder
Rename the copied "geneva" to something like "zero"
enter "zero subfolder"
Open landscape.ini with a plaintext editor like notepad++
Follow the instructions.

Thanks for responding.

I assume I need to change the altitudes to zero in the horizon_Geneve.txt file, but I cannot figure out the format. File attached.

Also, how do I change the fill color so it does not darken at night?

Please change coordinates of the location within attached landscape.

You should delete the location section in landscape.ini altogether for a "zero-altitude" featureless horizon.

I case you don't see simple auto-explanatory colums but just a heap of characters, you need a text editor that survives loading text files without DOS carriage returns, this is why I wrote "with a plaintext editor like notepad++", Windows Notepad is NOT usable here.

Alexander, I have a location-less zero landscape which I could add to trunk. There are some quirks with polygonal landscape, you need some minimum spikes to have a true zero-altitude on at least most coordinates.

I’m using notepad on WIN 8.1 and the text is readable. I deleted the location section in landscape.ini. How do I activate this new landscape? The add/remove is looking for a zip file. Thanks.

I got it to work - thanks for your help and patience.

I have two questions:

1) I would like to change the ground color. I have the RGB values for a color I want to use. However, when I use these values (41, 77, 86) with a decimal point in front of them (.41, .77, .86) , I do not get the correct color. What am I doing wrong?

2) I do not want the ground color to darken at night. Is there setting for this and if so, what do I do?

Once again, thanks!!!!

P.S. Georg, I don't remember - why you add additional options for minimal brightness and how to both options should be enabled through GUI?

Per your instructions, I changed the config.ini file

Per the instructions in landscape.ini (line 17), I changed line 18 to 0..1

Also, I unchecked “use brightness settings for landscapes”

No help - the landscape/ground darkens to black at night.

To lessen the confusion, GUI flag should control [landscape]/flag_minimal_brightness, and the other can likely go away. If landscape specifies its own min brightness, this was the intention of the landscape creator and shall be taken as min brightness (observed only if flag_min_brightness is true), else (also when switching to landscape without its own setting, the value from config.ini is used. I can fix this in the next few days. Do we need to set the value from config.ini via GUI?

Please advise after you sort things out what settings I should enable/change/etc.

Yes.

Do as Alex and I have advised you:

 - change both settings in the config.ini to TRUE (I mean lowercase-true, just to emphasize this must be true and not false.)

 - change line 18 in landscape.ini to near 1 to keep landscape at night as near to the color as possible.

 - check “use brightness settings for landscapes” to enable this brightness setting for landscapes.

One flag will go away in 0.13.2. Don't bother.

If there is enough space on one line, you could even have the most accurate behaviour like so:

[ X ] Minimal brightness: [0...1]spinbox [ X ] from landscape, if given

And if landscape comes with own value, disable the spinbox as long as "from landscape" toggle is active.

Tooltips:

1) Use minimal brightness to leave landscape visible also in darkness
2) (spinbox) does not need one, or: 0..landscape is black at night, 1..landscape is fully bright.
3) Use minimal_brightness as may be specified in landscape.ini
