I don't know who painted these, but they're on the wall of a building on Hollywood Boulevard. I can't help but smile when I look at them, they're so random and whimsical:

For anybody living around London:
I was watching 'Top Gear' last night and they were commenting on some writings that was done on a large wall as you come into London; one saying "Why Do You Do This Everyday?" and another one simply: "Lemmings". Appearently it has been there for a while now and motorists are subjected to them every morning as they make their way through traffic. Excellent!
If anybody has seen these I'd love to see pictures or a link, thanks!

| Lickety Split: Guerrilla Art and Advertising in the City-Exhibit Opening July 8 |
[29 Jun 2006|12:48pm] |

Feed Your Head Books will be hosting an opening reception for Meera Lee Sethi's exhibit Lickety Split: Guerrilla Art and Advertising in the City on Saturday, July 8 from 7-9. Lickety Split features photographs of street art, often ephemeral, sometimes transgressive, always strikingly original fragments of urban culture. The particular pieces of art showcased may have already disappeared from the streets of Boston and Cambridge—where these photographs were taken—but, as street art continues to flourish in cities across America and around the world, we guarantee that as soon as you leave the the exhibit, you won't be able to help seeing more. In addition to documenting the phenomena that is street art via photographs, Meera also brings a voice to the artists themselves by including their words and views, as they share their perspectives on their work, its origins, its meaning, and its subversive humor.
So, come one, come all for a night of subversive sticker and street art! The opening reception with the artist will be held on Saturday, July 8 from 7-9 pm and the photographs will be on display at the store from July 5-30.

Hmmm.
Does anyone know of any books featuring graffiti humor/slogans written in marker? Along the lines of http://www.picturesofwalls.com/.
There was a book of these things published a few years ago. I've been searching through old art magazines that might lead me to the title. The site I linked to offers a book, but I don't think that's it.

Driving north on I15 this morning I spotted a brand new piece on a brand new wall. I flipped a bitch and grabbed the digicam to get this:

By this evening when I drove by again, it was gone.

| Val Kilmer? |
[06 Jan 2006|03:37pm] |

there was a whole big thing in my town about someone pasting all these
Val Kilmer heads up everywhere. seriously, EVERYWHERE. no one knew who
the hell was doing this and what the point of it was. i think it went
so far as Val Kilmer had to make a public statement saying that he was
in no way involved with what was happening - that his face was
collaging the city for no apparent reason. anway, i just find it
hilarious.
i took a picture of some Val Kilmer heads i saw, but it didn't
turn out because i have a shitty camera and it never takes
pictures in focus at night, so i ripped this one off of this site so i could show you. you can see my original shitty one behind the cut.
