This is a community for those who are tired of science fiction universes that have a race that more more or less look like elves. More generally, feel free to discuss general science fiction stuff here, as long as you mention whether or not the work has an elf-like race.
Also, the community maintainer, algeh will be keeping a list in memories of works that have an elf-like race. If you wish to write a review of a work (book, tv show, movie, opera, whatever) that has on elf-like race and post it to the community, please feel free to do so. If you want to post another review disagreeing with someone else's, that's fine too, but please at least show an awareness of having read their's first. I'm kind of curious just how many of these there are out there. Please include in your review the media, name of work and relevant creators (author, executive producer, etc.) so I can memorify by those things without doing extra work.
Community rules:
No wildly-OT posts. If it's about science fiction, it's probably ok to post it. If it's about improbable elves in some non-SF setting, it probably is more or less ok, but don't make a habit out of it. If it's about your navel ring, new (non SF) community or pet budgie, don't post it. Chain letters/posting of any kind will be deleted with prejudice. If you feel something is so important that it really should be posted even though it is off topic, reply to this entry: http://www.livejournal.com/talkpost.bml?journal=bahonpointyears&itemid=473 and I'll consider it, but be aware that my standards are pretty high. If it has to do with LiveJournal in general, such as something important posted in news then I'll probably repost it. (I already read news and many of the support communities, so you probably don't need to let me know about that kind of stuff.) If it's something where everybody on the the internet should do x on y day because of z, then it's off topic unless it has to with elf-like aliens, in which case it would actually be really cool.
Leave comments turned on on all of your posts. If you don't want it discussed, don't post it in this community. If you don't want the emails, turn email notifications off for that post.
Posts should all be public. This is an open community, so members-only posts aren't hard to find anyway, and I'd rather people be able to follow the community without joining it.
The <lj-cut> tag should be used when posting any images, anything more than about a page long, or anything with much hand-coded (or cut-and-pasted) HTML in it.
No quiz results. If someone ever makes a "Which Elf-like alien race are you?" quiz, then it would be ok to post that, but all quiz-takers after the original poster should post their results as comments under the original, not as new posts. This does not override the <lj-cut> rule, and the quiz result should be behind one.
