This community was created to serve the needs and interests of American University in Cairo Students. You do not have to be a member of LiveJournal to post.

This community welcomes all students (Study Abroad, Undergrad degree seeking, Arabic Language Institute, Grad School, etc), faculty and friens of AUC to join.

As the school year draws closer, and students are anxious to connect and talk to one another, I thought this would be a great and easy place to do this.

I'd like to organize the community so that it will be easily accessible to those searching for imformation.

The catagories I've thought of are:

- APARTMENTS: ("I'm looking to get an apartment, anybody interested?"; "Whats better, dorms or apartments"?; etc.)

- TRAVEL I [to and from Cairo]: ("What airlines are comfortable and cheap?"; "will anybody be taking Swiss Air to Cairo from Zurich on the August 24th?"; etc.)

- INTRODUCTIONS: Might include Name, program, home school, year there, major, where you are from, interests, etc. Anything you'd like really.

- CONTACT INFORMATION: A place to exchange names, email addresses, Instant Messaging screen names, Facebook information, or other ways of contacting one another.

- EDUCATIONAL: ("What's AUC as a school really like?"; Classes you are taking; professors you like/dislike; good opportunities; etc.)

- UPCOMING EVENTS: Advertise here for an event you're involved in (clubs, sports teams, etc)

- CULTURAL INQUIRES: ("What should I wear?"; "Where are good places to eat?"; "What is the night life like?"; etc.)

- TRAVEL II [While there]: ("Does anyone want to go to Palestine?"; "What are good travel agents?" This does not include traveling to and from Cairo, I've created another section for that.)

- MISC: Whatever you'd like or I didn't mention.

I don't know what the best way is to organize the differnt types of posts, but I figured we could do it by marking the entries with as "memories" in the specific catagory, or we could type the name in the Subject line.

If anyone has any suggestions about how to improve this community, PLEASE let me know! I'm new to moderating, and while I'm fairly good with computers, I'm not the best.
