You may think you know all the ins and outs of your best girl, but no matter how much your sweetie shares with you, there are still a few secrets she is hiding. Take just this from me.
“We want you to notice, comment, appreciate”
It kills me to receive all the glances, stares, catcalls from all over the place, but when I return home, you cannot even notice that I have been at the saloon.
You return home to find everything in order and what do I get? Silence! I want to see you appreciate my presence.
And if there is something you don’t like, say it tactfully – don’t hurt my femininity. Even when I show you some cute girl across the street, I don’t want you to be very impressed – telling me more about her shapely bum and piercing boobs. It pleases me if you rubbished her or said I am better in some way. We also get attracted to other guys but do we say it?
“We need to be loved, cared for, pampered and above all, attention”
When we talk of love, men hear sex. Yet we mean much more. We want men to notice a frown on our faces and ask what the problem is.
We want to cuddle with them and feel protected, we want to be priority in apportioning care. If a guy did this because we asked, it would lose meaning.
So we let them take us for granted and live wishing they knew what could make us love them more
“We feel uncomfortable asking for money”
We are not sluts. We expect that if you love us, you will notice that we need some cash to spend and offer it before we ask for it.
A good lover volunteers to give before being asked. When I lose a family member, your tears are welcome. But better still, I want you to show ability by footing some of the burial bills. Do I have to ask you for that?
“We need real good sex’
We love sex too – lots of it and sometimes think about it all day long. But we may not tell you.
We want good romance more and wish we could educate men which buttons to press, but we cannot. We wish men could learn to tell from our moods when we are yearning for sex, when we want another term and when we are too tired for any engagement. Your gun may be firing single rounds and we are not blaring for its ouster. But that does not mean it is not getting repulsive.
“We want you to be jealous - but just a little bit”
We feel loved when you show that you are threatened. We want you to notice (and care!) when some guy flirts with us. It makes us feel that we matter to you.
But don’t go all the way to being possessive. We hate suffocation. You just have to learn the boundaries: Raising your eyebrows when I introduce my cute co-worker - good. Punching him out – bad - very, very bad.
“We want you to be ‘the man’”
I may be a wife of means, a sugar mummy or one who serves this country as a minister or MP, but I still want to feel taken care of by my man somehow. Whether that means you taking charge in bed, fixing the car and killing cockroaches, or even just barking at some stubborn debtor.
We wish you would act all manly – it makes us feel more feminine, more safe. At the end of the day, being in your strong arms makes definite good sense – and becomes more arousing.
“Show them that you love me”
Why should you fear holding my hand in public? Let us scare away the hawks. You may call it showing off, but I say it is making a statement.
And still talking about outings, when I say ‘I am tired, I want to sleep’, don’t hand me car keys; I actually mean we should retire; I have better plans.
“We also get attention”
We know your paranoid fears – that is why you remain restless when we go out without you. But even when you are around us, we get approached - regularly - by some lecherous guy offering us anything from drinks to heaven. We never dream of taking them up on their offers, but we don’t see why we should tell you.
Finally
I don’t want to remind you of our anniversary or my birthday, but don’t hurt me by forgetting. If you think I am checking out the other woman, you are right. Don’t ask if I wish you had more money, of course I do. Do I like lingerie? Do I want to be taken out often? Do I want to check your phone, diary or bag? YES, Of COURSE, I do. I am a woman for crying out loud! I care about my security
