Starting a band [03 Dec 2006|03:37pm]

starysaturn
Hi everyone, Im looking to start a band (have been for a while) having some trouble finding commited people. I personally want to play rock and alternative music and mainly want a drummer- which seems very hard to find, as well as a bass guitarist... Currently I'm teaching myself guitar (if anyone knows a good and trained guitar teacher I'm all ears) so I'm crap at guitar at the moment... Also I play keyboard (not advanced) and sing. I do have some training but I'm pretty easy going. I'm looking to start a band that can develop into something a bit more serious and not just for a hobby... If anyone is interested or knows anyone who might be please leave a comment :)

Hi everyone.

We are Canberra based and have a CD/DVD duplication business. Any bands/musicians interested in having their CD made on a budget, give us a call. We print and make the CD's surface glossy. Can print slicks and provide a range of cases. No job too small. AAA Duplication 02-62518300. Sorry for the self-promotion, but I thought it might be useful for some people. Cheers, Victor.

Plug for gig [25 May 2006|01:58pm]

el_moofo
So, on the 1st of June there's this gig at Toast.
It's The Love Skulls supported by the Pirates of Ben's Pants and Sansutra.

Loud and naked.

We're not allowed to have a myspace profile because it's run by multinational news corporations, but see
http://www.davepretty.com

I don't know who Sansutra is. They sound like they're pretty bloody good.

For anyone interested, I'm the new mod of this community.. Hi, I'm Karen!

I'm a band manager.. but obviously have similar interests to musicians. I'm hoping to liven things up a little around here, with relevant info regarding music here in the ACT, and maybe some more members etc.

If anyone wants any info on anything, please do ask and I'll try to provide what I can. Eg, booking venues for gigs, promotion, funding, etc.. anything.

Have fun!

Karen

Hi Everybody!
I just found this group .. very cool. I lived in Canberra as a kid but my family moved to America when I was 7. I've been living in Seattle for the past 4 years but am moving back to Canberra in July. I play the clarinet and alto sax (although I don't have a sax anymore) and I havn't picked up my clarinet in a few years. It's a shame, really, because it used to be such a big part of my life. I go to a lot of shows here in Seattle and would love to find out the good places to hear live music in Canberra. I went to a blues club on a trip to Canberra once but that's about all I know of. I also would really love to learn to play the guitar. I tried to teach myself at one stage but didn't get very far. I also love to sing. I have done a little bit of back up vocals in Seattle for some private studios but never anything in front of a crowd .. my stage fright is horrendous. I'd love to meet any other music lovers in the area. More info about me, if anyone's interested, is on my myspace:

open mic [07 Mar 2006|04:04pm]

cheesegrater
hello all.
ive been a member of this community since it started not-too long ago, but am yet to introduce myself. my name is chris and i play guitar and bass and i also sing to myself or others when ive had too much to drink and am feeling friendly/musical.

i think i actually want to have a go at playing to people and im curious about what places have open mic nights or the like(apart from the pot belly in belcompton or bootlegs at the phoenix, if you'd call that open mic, and both of which i know about already) and which have an amp that can be used by those who dont have one/dont want to lug theirs around. i ask the latter question as my amp is crappy and heavy and i couldnt be bothered carrying it and a guitar around on the bus.

but yes, if anyone knows the answers to those questions that would be swell.

singing [27 Feb 2006|10:44pm]

Hi

My name is Katy, and I have recently moved to Canberra.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a singing teacher (classical voice) in or around Braddon?

Also - are there any good choirs that you could recommend?

Thanks,

xx

argh how rude of me i did introduce myself
I like music, I suck at guitar (but hopefully not for too much longer - summer holiday project to get better at it!). I live on campus at anu (1st year econ), and I <3 Ska, Punk, Indie, Glam and good old fashion rock n roll.
Any questions?

Looking for online collaboration [11 Oct 2005|11:59pm]

mauvecloud
Hi there! Erm, mod, please feel free to delete if this is against the rule. I am not currently anywhere near the ACT (I am in country Victoria -_-;), but I am wondering if anyone here would be interested in an online collaboration (reading the success story in the post previous to this one also encouraged me).

You see, I am a song-writer person who can neither do lyrics nor sing, so I am really keen on finding a lyricist/vocalist for my songs. You can find some of the songs here: http://www.geocities.com/h_mauvecloud/, or http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=86807

What I mean by online collaboration:
Vocalist: 1) Downloads any of the song (s)he is interested in. If the particular song does not have mp3s download enabled, just comment here, tell me which song, and I will enable the mp3 download for that song.
--------- 2) Records the vocals track on PC, and sends it to me in high bit-rate mp3.
Me: Mix the vocals track with the other tracks.
Both: Upload song to any online music website both agree on, under a band name both also agree on.

So, anyone interested in writing lyrics and singing the words to my songs, just sing out! (^-^)
Thanks so much for your attention!

hi! my name is kelly, i play cello... and i pretend to play guitar. at the moment, i have a buggered wrist, so i'm not playing right now, but... *crossed fingers* i will as soon as possible. at which point i will want people to play with. i'm open to anything in terms of style, although i'm really keen on the idea of starting a klezmer/gypsy band... so there you go. i will post again, perhaps, when i am actually capable of playing again

Hey thar,
I be called Danielle, and I rawther like playing music, whether it be as an emotional outlet, a means of revenge (if you play really high notes on the flute you can get your own back for anything), or what, I don't know.

I never have practiced much, becuase I've always been firmly of the opinion that other people didn't want to hear me.
But hey! I actually do like playing, especially early music and folk stuff.

I also like singing. When I used to sing, I was an alto, but now I've stopped, my range has changed a bit.

I'm keen to play/jam/sing with you whoever you are. 'twould be marvellous.

SO! Hi.

My name's Matt, I live in Canberra (obviously), and I play drums.

I'm 23.

I like most genre's of music, but I'm a metal boy at heart.

I'm originally from Brisbane, I moved here because my girlfriend and her family moved here and I didn't fancy losing her.

I've done Certificate 3 in Music at the Moreton Institute of TAFE, and would go like to go on and get the diploma one day.

I'm pretty shy, don't have a social life and don't have many friends, I've only been here nearly 3 years and have been working for most of it.

Click here to see my drum kit & specs. Here for a front shot.

I have purple hair.

Did I miss anything? :P

a_vivid_dreamer
where are the best places in canberra to go busking?

i used to busk in a train station tunnel in the blue mountains... it had really great accoustics. are there any busker-friendly places in canberra with good accoustics? or any other places in general that are particularly good for busking...
