Passover for us can be the deliberate remembrance of all that God has done to set us free. Like the Israelites, we have been delivered from a devastating sentence of death. As believers in Christ however, our deliverance came not with the blood of a tiny lamb sprinkled over the doorframe of our house. Our deliverance came through the blood of the Lamb: the spotless, holy Son of God who poured out his blood over our lives. Just as the Lord commanded the Jews to celebrate the Passover, the night when God’s judgment passed over the houses of His children, as believers in Christ we have some praise in order to thank our Lord that He has not given us over to the judgment we deserve. Because of the extravagant grace & mercy of our God, the blood has been poured out. The Destroyer must keep out. And now as believers we must sing out. We have been covered, protected, sealed, justified, purified, and made holy. This is a holiday worth commemorating!One way that Dave & I have chosen to do this over the years is through a Seder meal. There are many websites and books that make this an easy tradition to share with your own family. One of my favorite passages of scripture is Deuteronomy 6:“These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. Hear, O Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, promised you. Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. When the LORD your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you—a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant—then when you eat and are satisfied, be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. “It is all over the book of Deuteronomy: “Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen of let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.” (4:9)The only two reasons I can imagine that the Lord would repeat this warning so many times “be careful to not forget” the wonderful things He has done, is that He is completely jealous for His glory & honor above all else (Oh and this is the safest thing for our lives as well… He truly is the only One or thing we can consume ourselves in and not get burned) and He knows our human tendency to forget. To forget the work He has done in and through us, to forget the chains that we once lived life in, to forget the guilt & shame that accompanied us in life, to forget that we were once alienated from Christ because of our sin, but have now been reconciled and given access into the presence of a holy God- because His blood has made us holy (Ephesians 1:4).I don’t ever want to forget. In order to do this, we must go out of our way to remember. We must intentionally set aside time and make traditions to honor Christ. Resurrection cookies are a great tradition (never done it but hope to get my act together next year on that one) as well as a Seder meal. We are doing a Seder meal with friends and family and look so forward to what God is going to do. The entire meal is symbolic of what Christ has done (Lamb to symbolize the blood of the lamb, bitter herbs for the bitterness of slavery, sweet apple haroset to symbolize the sweetness of Christ’s deliverance). He is so good and worthy. Lord help us to never forget. We give you praise & honor you for your unfailing love and relentless pursuit. First Corinthians 5:7 says that you, Jesus Christ, became the Passover Lamb. And by your stripes we are healed.

The boys are having a great time at VBS this week. I am teaching across the hall from Micah's classroom and can hear him laughing and having fun the whole time. I am so thankful our babes can get God's word in their hearts as such a young age.
