It hit me this morning, in the rush of the whole family trying to leave the house at the same time for the first time in a long while, that this is our last true weekend of Summer. True, the astronomical last day of Summer will be Friday, September 21, but for us it ends as the school year begins this Monday with the routines of early mornings, homework, sports practices and game nights, and the end of swimming pools, cookouts, and (hopefully) staying up way too late having fun on weekdays!
In Austin our Summer was unusually mild and pleasant this year--we've had some rainy weekends and only one week of 100+ degree weather so far. We've been able to enjoy a family trip, visits from family, and a long weekend away together.
We celebrated Jeremy's birthday at home and ordered his favorite carrot cake to enjoy together just before Memorial Day
In early June, we took a family trip to Horseshoe Bay Resort on Lake LBJ. It was a great place to go as a family as they did a good job of making sure there were activities for all! Delaney enjoyed the sandy beach and walks in the three gardens in the morning. Sidney had fun playing flag football and other sports games on the main lawn, Mom and I were able to enjoy a spa pedicure, Jeremy and Sid played a round of golf, and we all enjoyed the food and pools!

Delaney had her second round of swim lessons this year--she is really making good progress and can "monkey crawl" all around the edge by herself. She loved all of the songs the teachers sang in class and likes to sing them in her bathtub making ice cream scoops with her hands.

We had some friends over for the Independence Day parade and celebration in our new neighborhood. There was a cute bicycle parade behind a fire truck and bouncy houses and food by the pool and community center.

Nana sets up little activities for Delaney to pass the time during the day. Here is one of her baby pool set ups--she does wonders with sprinklers too.
A big milestone this Summer is Delaney's potty training. She really started to show an interest and we felt the time was right to try--except for nighttime, she is out of diapers completely and is doing such a great job. We are all so proud of her and have to thank Nana for her help getting her there.

Speaking of milestones, Sidney has a few himself this year: a summer reading list (classics like To Kill a Mockingbird, The Outsiders, Of Mice and Men, Lord of the Flies, the Phantom Tolbooth), turning THIRTEEN!, and his football camp in preparation for making the school team for this fall's 8th grade year. This will make for lots of posts and photos I'm sure...it was really exciting to see him all suited up in his football gear and to see his name on a locker.

I had a pretty big scare when Jeremy was training for his first Triathalon and crashed his road bike. He protested (A LOT) but we ended up at the emergency room with a minor concussion and some pretty bad road rash. They had to send the burn specialist in to clean him up thoroughly. Classic Jeremy: he had all of the nurses laughing and was cracking jokes and quoting Fletch the entire time. He asked the nurse cleaning him up what grade sandpaper they were using...and flashed his, well, dangly bits, to a few of us accidentally.
But the following weekend he still went out there and competed in the Tri!

Jeremy and I took a much-needed trip to the Rivera Maya in Mexico for a long weekend. We missed the kids but it was fun laughing and hanging out together. We had some yummy dinners out and relaxed on the beach. Our room was huge and had an outdoor shower and swim-up infinity pool.
The views were so pretty--we were just between the Gulf and the Carribean. We were surprised at first to discover that about half of more of the other couples there were from Great Britain, but in talking with them it made sense: favorable conversion rate, their holiday break, and oh, a little thing called the Olympics in their hometown that drove lots of them away.... :)
