Mom sleeps in

Sinjin and Brett went to Starbucks and a walk this morning to get out of the house and let Liz have some actual peace and quite. Hopefully she slept. We had a nice walk along the Willamette river and liked racing the stroller. It handles quite well on the corners!

Since Sinjin was born, we have been a little busy, but I plan on adding posts more often.

First Official Outing

So Sinjin went on his first outing today, to St. Honere' bakery, our favorite spot. We sat outside in the sun and enjoyed a nice lunch. Pictures to follow.

After a night of sleep, we all are feeling much better.
We are going to take it easy today and except visitors tomorrow (sunday). We are at Meridian Park Hospital in room 14. If you are coming by, please call our cell phones first just so we can plan for your visit.

I went home and had a quick shower and reassured the dogs all was OK. They didnt believe me and kept running for the door looking for Liz. I had Sinjins first hat and brought it home for them to smell and get used to his scent. They were pretty pissed at me for not brining Liz home. They cant quite figure out what is going on. I tried telling them how much they helped Liz, she had photos of them to look at and visualize during labor which got her mind on other things.

Thanks for everyones good wishes! We felt warm thoughts all around us and the support was incredible. Katlyn flew up at the last second from the Bay Area and was great support in the hospital, along with my mom and sister, Sue and Allison. Not sure how we would have made it so long with out each of them being there. It got pretty crazy and emotional at times.

7lbs 13 oz, 21 inches long, 14 inch head. Born 7pm on August 1st. Liz and I are super tired and will be taking it easy tomorrow. please call our cell phones and we will answer when we are able.

Liz ended up having a cesarian, and we will be in the hospital for 4 days. I will post more details tomorrow but for now we have a beautiful healthy baby boy and Elizabeth if great also, just sore and super tired.

Is it still Thursday?

Quick synopsis of our day. After the doctors visit at 9am we came home to rest. Liz slept for about 30 minutes, Brett slept about 3 hours. Liz was a little stir crazy so we went to the outdoor mall close to the hospital and walked around, my mom joined us there. The contractions have grown quite strong at this point but still about 5 minutes apart. Since we were close and the doctor had an opening we went back about 3pm for another visit. Liz had progressed some, but we arent at a critical point. The choice was to be admitted, see what happens and then potentially break her water and start to induce slowly. Or, go home and wait till the contractions are hard and more consitant, this is what we decided to do. The key will be that Liz doesnt get too worn out. She hasnt slept much over the past few days and when things go full on, we want her to have strength. Currently she is laying on the couch sipping a smoothy I made her. About every five minutes her face turns red, eyes tear up and she quits talking. But she is home with the dogs, comfortable and safe. All is well. Thanks for the patience and warm thoughts! So Liz had a doctors visit scheduled for 9am so we went to that. Doctor said this can last 24 hours and stop, or we could have a baby in an hour. No one really knows. So we are back home and trying to get some sleep. Contractions are continuing.

OK, nothing new. we are still at home. Dogs are nervous, they both have thrown up. Our doula, Stacey came over and is hanging out with us. Liz is resting. Contractions are about 5 minutes apart but don't last very long. So we are hanging out at home as long as we can.

Things started picking back up, waiting a little longer but we are pretty much ready to head to the hospital,

slow going

done a bunch of walking, etc, but things have slowed down. Liz is going to bed, very well expecting to get up at 3am and goto the hospital. Labor has its own rhythms, and we are just along for the ride.

Viva le France

Well, we stalled out a little bit so decided to go down to the local french bakery before they closed to walk around and have a cup of tea. It did the trick and things are rolling again.

update

contractions are lasting longer and coming closer together. They last about a minute and are coming about every 5-6 minutes. We are still at home but if this lasts for another hour we will head to the hospital. I can send posts from my cell phone so updates may be shorter. 

Things are happening...

Contractions are happening at regular intervals now. I came home from work early. Liz has spent most of the day with Sue, Bretts mom. More details to follow. 

When?

Liz was up most of last night. She was having contractions at some regular intervals. But come morning that had subsided. I think we are close. A friend sugested jumbing on a tramboline, jogging, or feet first bungy jumping. Not sure if I can talk Liz into that.

Due Date!

Well, the big due date on the calendar has arrived and alas......no bambino! I am having lots of rumblings though which are all a good sign. I think our little friend will be here in the not too distant future. In the mean time....the "nest" is primed and ready! The freezer is defrosted and well stocked, the cupboards are scrubbed down, restaurant take out menus have been laminated and placed in a binder for easy reference, every closet is organized, the baby's room is ready, the dogs are bathed and the fridge is so clean is sparkles!

ready when its ready

Ever seen a pregnant ladys view of her feet??? Not much news to report. Liz feels crappy and isnt sleeping much. No baby yet. But doctor says everything is fine so we are just waiting for the moment.

Monday...

Elizabeth is starting to get a little stir crazy. This is the first summer we have ever, not gone hiking or camping. Compound that with the fact she has beed staying at home trying to take it easy, and she is getting quite antsy. We went for a drive up to Mt Hood on Sunday and took Tillee with us. Did a few slow, short hikes in the trees and streams and up around Timberline lodge. Got the itch scratched...

Liz also had her big fundraiser event Sand in the City this weekend and felt quite guilty not being down there. We went for the VIP event on Saturday night for 4 hours and that alone wore her out.

Another week

Nothing yet. Elizabeth had a doctors apointment on Wed and everything is progressing normal. It could be any day or it could be another few weeks. She is basically answering the phone now with "No baby yet".

Missed Bastile Day

Elizabeth really thought she would have the baby on Bastille Day because of all the crousaints she has eaten this past year. But we missed it, now we are trying to guess which stage of the Tour de France the baby will be born on, Alpe d'Huez? Rest day? Im hoping for the rest day so we wont miss any of the action!

Heat

Its supposed to be in the mid 90s today. A little hot for Portland. We have had several days close to the century mark this year. That AC we put in this spring was well worth it! Liz is feeling well and we will hit the farmers market and our favorite French bakery for coffee this morning. Then maybe I can get Liz to do a little yard work before she gets too busy.

Elizabeth is officially not in the office any more. Yesterday was her last day of going into work. From here on out she will work at home until the baby arrives. She does have her big fundraising event next weekend Sand In The City, so if baby hasnt arrived we will attend the VIP reception on Friday night.

Doctors Appointment

Elizabeth had a doctors appointment today, she is starting to dilate and baby is in the correct position. Now we are just sitting around looking at her belly!

blog name

Elizabeth and I got a new puppy last October, and then proceeded to get pregnant that next month. So Liz likes to say that I had a really weak year. "Brett, I want a puppy", "Brett I want a baby", and now look where we are at.

We are ready!

Had a friend, Kurt Feilke, suggest a blog might be a great idea to share with everyone the progress of the newest addition to our family. I will be updateing this as I can and posting pictures also. Should be a good spot to find out where Elizabeth is at, especially if we are busy with labor.
