Mailboxes beauty or beast

Everyone has a mailbox, well, unless you have a PO Box, but most suburban homes have one either wall mounted mailboxes or one that is out by the road at the end of the drive.  What are your thoughts on the mailbox, are they beautiful, or are the strictly utilitarian.  I am in the beauty camp, they can give a little hint to your style, and give a little curb appeal.  Recently, we have been told that our mailbox is  not in the beautiful category, and we might need an upgrade.  I do agree too, the one we have is plastic, white, and covered in some sort of moss.  It might be time to upgrade.  I was thinking that I would like to have a wall mount mailbox, not only would it be easier to check the mail, but I really like the way they look when they are hung just under the outside light.  It gives me that warm fuzzy feeling.  A house mailboxes might not work here, since the mailman does his run in the truck, and not on foot, but I am still a fan of  wall mount mailboxes.  We had one when we lived up in Chicago, and it was really great, and looked fabulous!  What do you consider your mailbox to be beauty or the beast?

Mailbox Placement

Our neighbor came to us and asked if we could move the box a little closer to the road.  Apparently the mailman had to drive in the grass a little to get to the mailbox, and this was making the grass die.  Being neighborly we said yes we will move it.  I think we should take this opportunity to upgrade to a nice residential mailbox.  The one we have is the old standard white mailbox.  I am thinking that something more attractive is in order.  There is such a variety of mailboxes now, that you can choose from rustic, to modern and everything in between!  Not only would our neighbor be happy that we moved the box, but we would get something really nice out of it!  I say that is a win-win situation!

Outside the Box

Your mailbox, do you think of it as an accessory for your house? Or is it just a little box that sits outside in all sorts of weather, and holds your precious mail? I think of the mailbox as a dressing to increase your curb appeal. Since we were trying to sell the house, we had to look at things such as curb appeal. In the winter, it is hard to look past all the dormant vegetation to see the full potential of a house, but small things such as an updated mailbox are key.

There are so many different mailboxes to choose from you can find something to fit your style. Whether your style is a wide mouth bass, or a large wall mounted wrought iron mail slot. We chose a copper-ish mailbox which sits at the end of our driveway on a 4x4. I run to the box everyday after work, you never know when that perfect fabric order will arrive!!! I find it important to keep your mailbox looking nice. It is one of the first things people see when driving up to your home. People will see the mail box, and maybe on a subconscious level think "Nice mailbox, well kept, that must mean their house it well kept too". I think it is the little details that make your house shine, and mailboxes fall into that category. Next time you run to get the mail, think about the outside of the box, what does yours say about you?
