Do you ever feel like you ran a marathon over the weekend because you did so many fun things? Well, that is how I felt this past weekend. We did run a race, but it was only a 5k, not a marathon. Not quite there yet ; ) Our real marathon running friends, The Joiners, came to join us for our fun festivities. I call them the race-catchers instead of the dream-catchers.
The gunshot went off bright and early Friday morning when we toured the Aquarium. I have to say I was a little disappointed. My first experience in the Aquarium was a private tour accompanied by champagne and Wolfgang Puck hors d'oeuvres. And most importantly, NO GENERAL PUBLIC. This time was quite the opposite. The general public and the germs were in full force. How will I ever survive Disney!?!? The kids loved it though. Blair said "I had a great time this day", and Davis found something just his size at the gift shop. A kid's dream, right?
A must on Paul Joiner's to-do list for his Atlanta visit was a trip to The Varsity. I was okay with this plan. There's nothing that a little grease and a little orange slush won't cure. This Papa was so proud of his family portrait. Had only they all agreed to wear the hats...
We got our rest on Friday night because Saturday was a big day for us. Well at least it was for me. I had been training to run my first 5k, and I needed to be ready to go come Saturday morning. The race-catchers are way more experienced than I am, so I didn't even attempt to catch up. I just did my own thing, and was so proud of myself. I finished in 27:36. Some of you are probably laughing, but this comes from a girl who used to fall out after 5 minutes of running. It was a beautiful morning for a race, and we all had a great time. Now, I just have to keep up the hard work for the 10k that is coming up on Easter weekend : /
Lucky for the kids, the race ended at the Zoo. After soaking up our carbs and electrolytes, we headed in for a little stroll. Blair and Davis were so excited to see all the animals. No one mentioned the t-r-a-i-n or the p-l-a-y-g-r-o-u-n-d. We took many detours ;)
After so many kid-friendly activities, it was time for some adult time on Saturday night. The sitter came to the rescue and it was time to hit the town. We went on a double date to Serpas that is located on Auburn Avenue. The area is kind of rough, but the restaurant and the food were fabulous. The menu was Louisiana-inspired, which is just our speed.
We had a great marathon weekend with the Joiners. I am sure they were just as tired as we were when they left. Blair had her way with Baby Reid all weekend by feeding him snacks and trying to shove a bottle down his throat. And poor Davis. He thinks his name is Harris now because that is what Blair called him at least 150 times. She finally got it down pat by Sunday; just when he was convinced his name was Harris. We were so glad the Joiners joined us for our marathon weekend, and hope they come back to visit very soon!
