We started the week out with home evening at the Hall's. President Hall told us that he had had a reocurrence of cancer and that it was in his back, but had for some reason stopped in its progression. I guess it's time to ask, "Does anyone have a problem with the plan of Salvation?"
He is a wonderful man and I am glad we have been able to be reacquainted. We taught seminary in the same district in Idaho.
As we began home evening, we started with a song. As we were singing, a bassett hound outside began howling. Elder Hall started snickering, and then Elder Riggs and finally everyone was laughing. It was reminiscent of taking Mom out to church parking lot and singing to her and having the police stop by saying a neighbor had called in a complaint about a strange noise fron the parking lot next door. Or a time in our own family when children, whose names will not be mentioned began snickering during prayer until no one was able to pray for several minutes. Aw the memories.
With the help of Elder Nufer, I have improved that spread sheet to a point that it saves me even more time. Now it not only adds information, it transfers it to a master copy that keeps track of it on a daily basis and transfers it to a daily tracking sheet. I want to share this with all the financial secretaries. It is a huge help to me.

August 29-September 4
Well, this is the end of another busy week or the beginning of a week that will be full of surprises. President and Sister Romney will be out of town all week so Mom and I are sort of in charge of making sure everything is ok in the office. It will be because we have wonderful missionaries to work with.
It was transfers, missionaries leaving, missionaries arriving, and zone leaders counsel all this week. Needless to say we were exceptionally busy, but everything worked out ok.
On Saturday after our English class, we went for a drive to the Centro. That is downtown Monterrey. It is always a challenge to do that since we don't know where we are going. Mom wanted to get a metronome for her piano classes. We finally found the store she wanted to visit and she got what she wanted. Then on the way down the street, she saw another shop she wanted to visit. She bought some harmonicas for the the office elders. One of the beautiful things about Linda is her caring for others. One of the elders has a harmonica and provides us with music, so Linda thought some of the others would like to learn how to play it alos.
Elder Flores came in the office Friday with a package for us. It was from his parents. It was traditional candy from Puebla. It is good, very sweet but tasty. I can't eat much at one time, but I do enjoy it.
What was even better than the candy was a letter sent by Elder Flores' mother. It thanked us for taking care of her son. What she said answered one of the questions I've been asking and that is what else are we supposed to be doing here. Apparently one of those things is to take care of the elders in the mission home and let them know they are loved and do have people who care for them here.
I love you all. I pray for you daily. You are all the real joy of my life.

August 15-21
Mom finished the blankets and the dress late Saturday night. The result is fantastic. She has done a beautiful job and has shown once again how much she loves our children and their children.
Tuesday was the 91st birthday of my mother. I have so many good membories of her. as I look at Linda, I am ever so thankful that she said yes and has been so patient over the years as I have stumbled through life. She has been at least if not a much better mother to each of our children than my mother was to me, and my mother was great.
Saturday we started another English class. This one has been started for those who have some background in English. Some of the teens came and asked if we could help them with their English. This class was sort of spontaneous, since we weren't sure they would show up. They did and we had a great time.
After the class, Mom and I went for a drive on the carretera Nacional. It is the natinal highway. We went along for about 45 minutes until we came to some roadside mercados. Mom had wanted to visit them since we saw them on a trip with the
Spencers. We had a good time and bought a new outfit for Linda. It is pretty and she looks great in it.

I don't know if there is a better way to start out a week than with a baptism. Sunday, Alejandro was baptized. He is studying to become a lawyer and is a deep thinker. Linda and I were able to teach him the plan of salvation lesson last week. That means we were able to contribute just a little to this day. We are happy for Alejandro and now wish his wife would come and listen to the gospel.
This week, Elder Dector sent us a wonderful picture. It was of him and his companion in a river raady to baptize 10 people. It was reminicsent of the waters of Mormon. It also made me think of John the Baptist and the River Jordan. From the pictures I've seen, it looks quite similar. I could imagine Christ coming and seeking baptism.
Wednesday, Mom received some great news. Her patent arrived. I don't know what will come of it, but I do know that she has worked hard and this is really important to her. I hope others will be able to benefit from this idea of teaching music.
She is a talented, inspired woman who is a wonderful gift in my life.
