Charlotte's 1st week
Well I'm a little early because Charlotte will be 1 week old tomorrow, but I had the time to update today so I figured I better take advantage of it.
Charlie's first 3 days were spent in the hospital so mommy could recover. I was tired and very sore. Jason changed every diaper and got up to bring her to me since I was too sore to stand up. But by Saturday, I was feeling great. The pediatrician gave Charlie the all clear and my doctor said I could go home whenever I was feeling up to it. Jason and I decided to go home Saturday night because we wanted the comforts of our own home. Jason went home to clean and prep our dog and my boss came by to visit. It was nice to see her. I've only seen her a handful of times since March, because she had a baby and actually just got back to work after her maternity leave. Nice timing huh?
Of course about 2 hours before we left the hospital, Charlotte decided to scare us to death with a crazy spit up incident. I really thought she was choking. I'm thankful that happened while we were still there though, becuase our nurse was great and showed me what to do if she did it again. That night was definitely the hardest. I heard every movement and I was so worried about her spitting up again. I don't think I slept at all. Sunday, all 4 grandparents came up to visit and then Jason's mom stayed so she could help out for a few days. She took the night shift and would just wake me up to feed Charlie. That was a big help.
Monday, we had our first doctor appointment for Charlotte. She did great (weight - 50th percentile; length - 90 percentile), but the doctor said she was slightly jaundice, so we would have to come back the next day to test again. Also, the doctor said her hips seem a little loose. Apparently the same hormone that makes mommy's pelvis separate to get ready for birth can sometimes affect the baby. Often, the problem corrects itself within 2 weeks, but the doctor wanted to schedule an ultrasound on Charlie right before her 2 week checkup. She said if there is a problem, we can catch is early enough to be corrected before it causes her pain. Ok, that was a lot for this new mom to handle. As soon as we got into the car, I broke down crying. Jason tried to calm me down, but I was just so worried about everything. I've also been super paranoid about whooping cough so Jason and I got vaccinated on the way home, and we made his mom go that afternoon. I was such an emotional mess on Monday. Our friends, Craig and Amy and their 2 little boys came by to meet Charlie and as soon as they left I took a major nap. I woke up feeling way more like myself, and less like a crazy person. Monday was also a very important day because Charlie's friend, Maggie Mae Motal, was born. We cannot wait to meet her in person eventually.
Tuesday, we went back to the doctor so Charlie could be tested for her jaundice levels, which went down (yay - no more pricked feet!!). Oh and she got weighed, and this little piglet was already 1 oz shy of being back at her birth weight! She obviously is a good eater! Jason went to work afterwards, so his mom helped out. She did so much cleaning around the house - it was awesome. Last night, I had Charlie by myself. Well, Jason was here too but since he had to travel for work today (only a day trip), we slept in the guest room because I did not want him getting tired today. It was not bad at all. I just hate it when my little girl gets the hiccups. She usually burps pretty good after feeding now, but she still spits up a bit and those hiccups are the worst. The doctor said they are just normal though, so I try not to worry about them. It's just hard to get her to settle down when she has them.
Today, my mom drove up and plans to stay with us until Friday afternoon. This is great for me because Jason is going to work until Friday at noon or so and this way I have someone around if I need to have an errand run. Remember, I'm still on modified bedrest because of the c-section. I really hate that too because I feel like I should be doing things around here. Our poor dog things I hate her by now. However, about 3 hours after my mom got here, she told me she had chills and was feeling kind of nauseaus. So I took her temperature and she was running fever. Of course, we both freaked out because we do not want Charlotte getting sick. My mom even offered to drive home. I told her there is no way she is driving while she is feeling so bad. So I quarantined her to the back bedroom and she took some tylenol. We figured it was a side effect of the whooping cough vaccine she got yesterday. I called my pediatrician to see if I should be concerned. They told me that as long as my mom isn't actually sick (and it sounds like she isn't), then Charlotte can't
get anything from her. They just want my mom to not handle the baby until she is fever free for a few hours. Aww, my poor mom. She is feeling a lot better now though and is doing housework. I'm hoping her fever breaks soon and she can hold her granddaughter again soon. Of course, I have been monitoring Charlie's temperature like a hawk. She is unfazed though.
So far motherhood has been one crazy, emotional, but totally amazing rollercoaster. And at only 6 days, I can only imagine what is to come.
Jason and I are so wrapped around this little girl's finger.
Charlotte's ultrasound and 2 week appointment are already scheduled for next week. Please send a few prayers our way.

It's a...
GIRL!! And I'm still in shock. Charlotte Anne Prochaska was born on Thursday, May 19th at 5:09pm (a whole week before her due date). She weighed 7lbs 10oz and was 20 3/4 inches long!
Wasn't I just complaining about being pregnant forever? That seems like a long time ago, but I guess our little girl got the message. Around 6:30am Thursday morning, I woke up to my water breaking. It was probably the weirdest experience of my life, but it made me so giddy because I knew we would be meeting our baby soon. Jason and I both finished packing our bags and got everything ready to go for the hospital. I started having contractions in the car, but luckily the ride was only about 10-15 minutes. The labor and delivery unit was super slow that morning, so I was given some extra special attention.
I got into my room around 8am (already dilated to 3cm). After a couple of hours of contractions that were getting really close together and stronger, I asked the nurse to check me. She said I was at 5cm, and immediately I asked for an epidural. My goal was to make it to a 5, and I did, so that was great. I got the epidural, but my right side wasn't taking to it as good as the left. Finally, I started feeling relief and before we knew it I was dilated to 9 3/4 cm. This was around 1pm, and my mom and Jason's mom had just gotten to the hospital. Pretty soon, I was ready to start pushing. I pushed for a couple of hours and nothing was really happening. My doctor showed up and noticed that my heartbeat was really high and the baby's was not doing so good when I was pushing. She did an ultrasound and determined that the baby was sunny side up. She gave me two options - keep pushing for a few hours and maybe have to end up with a c-section or go straight to the c-section. My first thought was to keep pushing, but my epidural was wearing off of my right side and I was throwing up from the pain. They said I couldn't have more medicine because they needed to save up for the c-section that was probably inevitable. I didn't want to put the baby at jeopardy since the heartbeat was getting so low, so we opted for the c-section. I was really hurting by this point, but the nurses and doctors were really fast at getting me back there. I think we got back there around 4:45, and Charlotte made her debut at 5:09. Jason got to announce to me that we in fact had a little girl, and I just started crying because I could not believe it and I was so happy to hear her cry. My doctor told me after, that the baby's head was pretty big and I probably would have not been able to push her out. So I was content with my decision to do a c-section.
I didn't get back to the room until close to 6pm. By this time, the nurses and Jason had given Charlotte a bath and cleaned her up so they immediately gave her to me, and I was in love. I could not believe she was our's and that she was so perfect. At this point, our moms were still in the waiting room and had no idea if we had a boy or a girl. So I told Jason he needed to go tell them the good news. He did and they were so thrilled, they immediately left to go buy clothes (of course). Jason came back so we could have our little honeymoon period with Charlotte. Then it was time for her first visitors - our moms, Garrett, and Kassie. They did not get to stay very long because it was already getting pretty late, but I was glad they were there.
I have so much more to write, but I wanted to get Charlotte's birth story on here.

Am I going to be pregnant forever?
I still have 8 days until this baby is technically due. But seriously, I feel like May is going to pass us by and I'm still going to be pregnant. I'm sure all you moms out there (especially the ones that had their babies come late) want to strangle me about now. I really do feel like this pregnancy has lasted so long though. I think it's because of our previous loss, my surgery, and the immediate jumping into trying to get pregnant again. It has felt like way more than 9 months.
Everyone at work assumed I would be gone by now. My boss comes back from her maternity leave on Monday, and it's going to be so weird to still be here when she is here too. The baby has been measuring big this whole time, so why doesn't it just want to come out already? :) I know it doesn't work like that. I'm anxious for my appointment tomorrow to see if I've made any more progress and to find out what my doc's plans are. Maybe she won't let me go so far past my due date because of course she isn't going to want to deliver during Memorial Day weekend right? :) Here's hoping.
I do feel like my body is doing "something" these days. I have a few periods of "contractions." I put these in quotes because honestly I don't know if they are contractions. I mean, really, how are you supposed to know what something feels like if you have never experienced it in your life. But they definitely aren't comfortable so let's just pretend like they are contractions anyway ok? Also - baby feels lower - maybe all the walking I've been doing is finally starting to work.
I'm not sure how many women actually work up until their due date, but I'm telling you, it's for the birds. I give all the teachers and nurses (and other jobs that keep you on your feet) props because I sit on my butt for a majority of the day and it still sucks. I think I'm in a pregnancy fog - but luckily my co-workers are super understanding, and I've been doing a little work from home this week. I'm so lucky to be able to do that sometimes. If I ever want to get some sympathy at the office, I just show people my ankles and that does the trick.
On a sidenote - this week is a little bittersweet for me and my family. My sister and Dean are getting married this Saturday. I could not be happier for them, but sadly Jason and I are going to have to miss it. Baby P is just being stubborn and keeping us guessing, and it would not be wise of us to travel 2 1/2 hours away from our hospital this close to my due date. I definitely wish I could be there, but I have to put the health and well-being of this little one first.
I hope to have a good update for y'all tomorrow. Fingers crossed!!

38 weeks - this baby is happy where he/she is at
I guess the title says it all right? Remember back at my 20 week ultrasound when they were concerned about the umbilical cord only having a single artery and how I had a greater chance of having a small baby born early - well lookie here folks, I've definitely proven that wrong. Do I sound bitter? :)
Tuesday, I had yet another ultrasound. Don't get me wrong - I love having them and I'm so thankful for so many opportunities to check on my little peanut. But I have to get up extra early to fight traffic to get to this place and then they check on the baby for all of 5 minutes, and I'm done. I guess it could be worse though. I'll just be thankful that so far everything has been going fine at these little checkups. So Baby P is looking good - practicing breathing (which is kind of adorable). This baby is still pretty active, even though I'm wondering how he/she can still move around so much because it's gotta be getting pretty cramped in there.
Yesterday, I had my 38 week appointment. First the good news - weight gain of ZERO! Oh yeah, I was all smiles about that. I'm right around 35lbs on total weight gain, I'll be happy to stop there. Now the not so good news - 50% effaced and 2 cm dilated (same as last week and the week before) AND baby has not dropped. I knew it. I could tell it was too high up in my ribs, but my doctor confirmed. Ugh. My doctor basically said "I'm pretty sure I'll be seeing you at your next appointment." Thanks for that doc - just lie to me already.
I don't know if it's because I haven't made any progress in 2 weeks or because I'm just pretty much uncomfortable these days, but I have been in such a fowl mood since yesterday. It's like I don't want to go to work because 1) I hate maternity clothes right now 2) I'm really annoyed by people in generally (seriously don't take offense people - it's the hormones I swear). But I don't want to stay home because I'm bored within about 10 minutes. I told Jason we have got to get out of the house this weekend so I don't go crazy. I plan on taking lots of walks, getting a pedicure, eating some spicy food, and whatever else I gotta do to get my body in delivery mode.
I truly feel blessed to be carrying this child and I know I sound like a whiny little B right now. I'm sorry for that. But it's just hard toward the end when you feel like you are going to be pregnant forever. I'm hoping that all I need is a few days off from work to relax and unwind and maybe I won't be so moody!
I did get good news from 2 great friends this week regarding their babies though!
First, Kassie found out her and Jeremy are having a little girl! I'm so excited for them. She is going to be just precious and I can't wait to meet her in October! (Hopefully, my baby will be here by then! LOL!)
Second, Laura's baby is so low in her pelvis that her doctor has given her an induction date of May 23rd, if Maggie doesn't decide to show up on her own by then. I can't believe she has 10 days or less. Yes - you are sensing my jealousy! Haha - I'm really happy for her though, and I can't wait to meet Maggie.
Oh and last night Jason and I sat down with the hope of narrowing down our list of names to 4 for a girl and 4 for a boy. So what happened - we just ended up with an even longer list. HA! What can I say - naming a baby is hard for some people.
On that note - I leave you with PICTURES!

Happy Mothers' Day!
I hope all the moms and soon-to-be moms are enjoying their day. I especially want to wish my mom and mother-in-law a Happy Mothers Day!
Aren't they cute?
I've been enjoying my weekend. Friday, I was super tired after a long week at work. My feet looked like elephant feet! :( But I came home and Jason had some gorgeous flowers and a sweet card waiting for me. It was just what I needed. He went out to Dean's bachelor party on Lake Travis for a little while that night, so I just bummed around and propped my feet up. It was great. Yesterday was spent picking up around the house, which was hard because I would get out of breath so quick! I took frequent breaks. Jason washed my car - it was much needed and I greatly appreciated that! Today, he took me out to lunch and he is going to make dinner for me tonight. I am getting spoiled!! No really, he does that sort of thing all the time, but it's just really nice now since I'm so tired. This weekend actually feels like it has been super long - probably because I am just waiting to go into labor. Even though work wears me out, it's a nice distraction. Everyone keeps asking me when my last day is - my answer "When I pop!!" That's the beauty of a desk job. It's not that strenuous.
My boss brought her 2 month old to the office on Friday so everyone could meet him. He is so precious. It got me even more excited about meeting my little one in the near future.
I noticed that my baby gender poll is now closed and it looks like a little more than 1/2 of y'all think I'm having a boy. I'll lump myself in that category as well. Which is weird because all I ever dream about are girls. But seriously, if a girl comes out, I think I will be shocked. Either way though, I will be very happy.
And I know everyone keeps asking up about names, but we are that couple that just don't have any for sure pinned down yet. I hate to tell people our names because they change constantly. We have a pretty sizable list that we are going to be taking with us to the hospital. Baby P will definitely have a name the first day, but it might just not be in the first hour. I want to make sure the name fits before picking on. After all, this baby will have that for the rest of his/her life. It's a very important decision.
I no longer have a fear of my water breaking in public. The chances are rare - however if it does happen, I'm sure I'll be mortified. My main conern now is that I won't know when I'm actually in labor. I know y'all are thinking I'm crazy, but I think I'll just be telling myself it's a normal pregnancy pains and then all of a sudden I'll be rushing to the hospital before the baby decides to come in the car. At least the hospital is only 10 minutes away!!

37 weeks - full term!!
Woohoo - Baby P is full term today. And as my doctor said "this baby sure isn't hurting in the growth department." Definitely not! :)
So last weekend, I had strict orders from Jason to take it easy. He went down to El Campo (for less than 24 hours) so he could fish in the Betty Jo Prasek memorial fishing tournament. His team did rather well too (4th place overall) so I'm glad he got to participate. I definitely took it easy while he was gone. I mean, I haven't been that lazy in a while, and it was AWESOME! Ok, well I put the stroller together, but seriously, that thing practically puts itself together so it wasn't a huge task. Sunday, Jason installed the car seat base into my car. I'm so glad I had him because I was totally confused. But we are good to go now.
Tuesday I had another ultrasound. Baby P is measuring 2 weeks ahead and looks to be around 7lbs. I told myself that the ultrasound machine is wrong, and that the baby is more like 6 1/2. But everything is still looking good. They went ahead and scheduled 4 more weeks of ultrasound for me, which puts me going all the way to May 31st. Man, I really hope I don't need that last one. This afternoon, we went in fo my 37 week OB appointment. The wait was seriously so long this time. I was about to fall asleep. But everything looked good at this appointment as well. I've really lost track of my weight gain, but I'm definitely 35lbs+ these days. I'm hoping it maxes out soon. :) My doctor said I haven't made any progress from last week (which I wasn't expecting), but she said I'm still in a good place. Her exact words were "You are safe for another week but all bets are off after that." She estimated Baby P is at 7lbs as well. I told her I am concerned that if the baby gets to big, I will have to have a c-section. She told me not to worry. She said that I am going to have a "good sized" baby, but I should be able to deliver vaginally, as long as there are no other issues. Ok, I feel better. She told me her guess is the baby will be 8lbs 5oz at delivery. I'm fine with that. Actually, I realized where this kid is getting his/her size - it's me! I was 8lbs even and born a whole 2 weeks early. I can't blame it on J because he was a little baby.
The poll at work shows the first person's guess of my delivery date is coming up on May 7, just two days away. It looks like I'm going to pass that one up.
So I'm just going to take it easy again this weekend. Watch movies, be a sloth, and take advantage of being able to sleep (not comfortably but at least not being woken up either).
Til next time! :)
