wishful thinking...merry christmas!

it's beginning to look a lot like christmas

a few things that let me know it's almost time for christmas...

• people sweat sweet


• random flecks of glitter on people's faces


• the smell of cinnamon pine cones when you walk into grocery stores


• the heated dish that's perfectly positioned at the front doors of all costcos


• people randomly quoting 'elf ' everyday


• people shopping with santa hats on


• cars with the wreaths on the grills


• christmas blow-up lawn decor everywhere


• mariah carey's "all i want for christmas is you" on repeat-it never gets old

but the thing i love the most is the kindness people show to one another, more smiles, more love, more service, more christ. i'm so grateful for this time of year!

huh, just kidding...i guess it's not my 100th blog post, ha. i've had a few unpublished drafts in there. but i still love you abby and kate!

I would like to dedicate this blog post to the two friends who 'made' me start a blog...abby and kate... Thank you. I never thought blog stalking would be so fun!

don't you wish your gospel doctrine teacher was funny like me...

So my calling in the single's ward is a gospel doctrine teacher and i love it. today's lesson was on ether 1-6 and the brother of jared, barges, light stones, wind and waves etc. anyway, we were discussing the phrase describing the construction of the barges, "tight like unto a dish". No one was really had a explanation for the phrase. so jokingly, i started a new slang term... tight like a dish ('unto' has been edited out...too proper, not ghetto enough)...

you too can use it. basically use it to replace the word cool, hot, sweet, etc. here are some suggestions...

• Thanks grandma for the sweater. It's tight like a dish.
• That guy's car is so tight like a dish.
• Wow, Mom, this candle is tight like a dish!

i think it's going to be just as big as for reals. C'mon Dad, you know you want to use it.

What's that white stuff?

So people ask me why I moved from Connecticut. The usual response is that I moved because of the lack of snow in Las Vegas...well...that was until today.

It just snowed and snowed and snowed all day. I think the latest numbers is around 5 inches!

5 inches! What?!

My drive home, which usually takes 30 minutes, took an hour and a half! The roads are ridiculous! For some reason, Las Vegas doesn't really own snow plows.

But it's all worth it. I'm sitting on my couch all bundled up watching Elf. It's a good night!

wrangler butts drive me nuts

Because my sister, Janelle, is a celebrity now, she got 2 tickets to the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) opening night! It was so fun! We're hoping to get some more tickets before it ends this weekend!

Black Friday Sales! It's 4am and I was the only person in line for Macy's opening at 5am...well at my entrance, but still!

Later that day, Friday, Janelle drove down to AZ for her friends wedding on Saturday! It was so fun visiting my friend Shelley! After the wedding, Janelle and I stopped at out FAVORITE burger and shake restaurant, Rally's. Our family had a tradition while we lived in AZ of stopping at Rally's after every orthodontist appointment and getting a shake!

i guess my dance moves were amazing....

yes, that's right. we all got into the ellen show. but not really due to my dance moves although they were rockin'. but more because of my hidden talent of acute hearing (some people call it 'eavesdropping' :). But you better believe i was bustin' a move when we were dancing with ellen.

Oh and by the way, maybe I was 1 out of 6 women chosen of of a crowd of 4,000 to participate in the ellen show. And maybe my sister janelle was 1 of the 6 chosen too. And I maybe I had to scream really loud on the "hypothetical" "very slim" chance that I would be chosen. And maybe one of us got chosen from the audience to go on stage with ellen.

Ok, no more maybes!

One thing I have always wanted to do was to be in the audience for a taping of a television show. Well, it just happens to be my lucky day.

ellen + 4 standby tickets+ today+ las vegas = yes.

ok, well, they're technically "standby" tickets. So no guarantee but, I pretty confident that when the producers see my dance moves I'll definitely get in.

It's been brought to my attention that I need to update my blog (I'm not naming any names...cough) But honestly, it's been more than a month and I know that I have needed to blog. So stay tuned! Can you say that on blog or is it strictly for TV and radio? Either way. I've got news!

life at the dental spa

So, I'm going on week 3 at my new job and so far so good. It's a lot to take in right now, but overall, it's fun to be back in people's mouths. The first day, I had a little boy throw up...poor little guy. Thankfully, not on me. It's only gone up from there! Each day is a learning experience and I love to interact with so many people each day. Thanks for everyone's nice comments and support!

And reality hits.

This week I had a working interview at dental office in Vegas. Being that this was my first working interview and my first patients since beginning of May, I felt like I could puke. The day went ok but there was this one patient that halfway through the appointment, he looks up at me and says, 'you must be new at this'. It definitely broke the tension and we joked about it the rest of the appointment! By the end of the day, I was beyond tired!

That night the dentist called and let me know that I GOT THE JOB! It feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders! The position is full-time (Monday-Thursday) with benefits (two things that are hard to find in my profession). The office is a 'dental spa' so we have complimentary paraffin hand waxes, heated neck wraps, warm towels, freshly-baked cookies, aromatherapy, and of course, calming spa music. It's fun!

Quarter of a Century

The family and I all went up to Parowan, UT for Labor Day weekend and we had a blast with all the things we did! Saturday was filled with shopping, the fair and carnival rides. Sunday was church and then hot dogs and smores on my grandpa's mountain ground by Brian Head with my cousins. Then Monday was my BIRTHDAY! I started it off with a little 5K run and then the Iron County Parade followed! I scored extra candy when I yelled that it was my birthday to the candy throwers! Then we came home and the family went to dinner at La Salsa (Nat, Jennah, Megs-I thought of CT times!)

It was a great birthday!

Second Chance Golden Birthday!

Today is my mom's "Second Chance Golden Birthday"! (for clarification: A second-chance golden birthday is when the person turns the age in which year they were born. For example, I'll use myself...we won't tell the world how "young" my mom is! So I'll have my second-chance gold birthday when I turn 83 ! I hope I make it to that age!)

We celebrated by going to a yummy thai restaurant and then to u-swirl!

Because I don't have kids to blog about, I blog about ice cream.

July was National Ice Cream Month so like any ice cream lover would do, I celebrated! I tried to hit all the basic forms of ice cream. I'll add a disclaimer to the following pictures...much running and salads were had this month too!

#2 Frozen Yogurt- Maverik-Delish. Need I say more.

#3 Gelato- Lake Las Vegas- Free Movie Night on the Lake- Chocolate Hazelnut-Think Nutella.

#4 Sundaes- Ice Cream Overload Cafe, Henderson

Ice Cream Overload Cafe- They claim that they have the World's Largest Ice Cream Menu. There was a back to this too!

#5 Frozen Custurd- Nielson's, Henderson

#6 Frozen Yogurt (again!) U-Swirl, Henderson. This place was amazing! It's basically a frozen yogurt fan's heaven. Seriously. You walk in, fill up the cup with whatever 12 different froyo flavors you want, and add on whatever toppings. Then pay by weight.

#7 Sherbet-Don't get Kate started about the pronunciation of this word. Tomato, tomatoe. Sherbet, Sherburt.

Anybody who has lived with me will know that I am a lover of grocery store ads. I look at them every week, scout out the best deals, and find secret joy in getting a good deal.

I feel that all my time and effort of scouting out deals came to fruition this last week. Albertson's. General Mills products. 4 for $4. No limit.

That's right, we're talking cereal, nature valley granola bars, popcorn, Yoplait yogurt packs, salsa, etc.

You might not be able to see my receipt but it says that I paid $28.54 for 30 items and saved $66.32

This week I am studying for the Nevada jurispurdence exam (all the laws in NV pertaining to dentists and dental hygienists). I printed out 50 pages of laws that I have to know by next Monday. So glad I'm not a lawyer!

Some people might not understand why this made me laugh as I was reading the local newspaper this morning.

I'm so happy!

So when I left Connecticut, I didn't just leave good friends, I left good shopping! One store that I loved, just opened up in Las Vegas! I'm going tonight! I can't wait for this, and this, and this! It seriously will blow your mind--everything is $8.98. It's amazing.
