Another Blog Entry

I haven't blogged in a while, so here's my attempt to throw something on the page...

I've given up with the Fitness Diary blogging. I know you're just crushed, but it was taking too much time and was hard to keep up with. I'm still exercising occasionally, but not with the same exuberance as when I started out. I've gone down in the number of days per week I get a work out in. I'm still doing the temp work thing, so when I get home after using my brain all day, I sort of shut down. I am lucky to get changed, put some food in my gullet, and make it onto the couch to veg. The days I do work out are always great, but I can find any excuse not to do it. Such is life.

Last night, me and Nic went on a sailing cruise with one of the other engineers from his work. Josh is a really sweet guy who reminds me a lot of Raimey. We've enjoyed having a few friends through Nic's work. Josh is a lover of sailing (and so is Nic), so he invited us on this cruise out of Kemah. There were ten of us that were passengers, plus the captain, his wife (I think), the first mate and his grandson who helped them out. They let some people help put the sails up and bring them down. A few people steered the boat. I chose to take a seat towards the front and stay stationary for the entire trip. Nic got his chance to sail the boat, and spent most of the night as part of the crew. He was very excited. Josh was nice enough to keep me company and listen to my incessant chatter all night. It was great to have an opportunity to get to know him better. He was really quite when we first met, so he's finally coming out of his shell and opening up to me more.

(This is similar to the boat we sailed on.)

Nic was happy with the amount of wind we had. He had a great time, but I think he missed out because once the moon came out, most of the people laid on the boat and enjoyed the calmness of the water. It was very relaxing floating out there and looking up at the big moon and stars. It almost felt like you were stationary until you picked your head up and saw how fast the boat was going. It was definitely a fun night out.

Nic's boss and his boss's wife have also been a good couple to go out and do stuff with. Last weekend we went on a double date and had some dinner and played Putt-Putt. We had a good time even with mosquitoes the size of flies and the joyous Texas heat and humidity. We went out there around 8:30pm so it would be cooler, but even that late into the evening, it was still sweltering. We may have to wait for any more outdoor activities until some time in October when the weather is a bit more cooperative.

Nic's job is still going good. He's had to deal with a few roadblocks with his machine, but they are working out the kinks. I'm still trudging along at the temp job. No one can seem to figure out the due date for the lady I'll be working in place of while she's on maternity leave. She is due some time between the end of August and end of September, so I'll be there for at least a couple of months. Other than work, our life is pretty boring. Going out with Nic's coworkers has been about all we do that would count as anything eventful (aka Blog worthy).

Update from your friend in Houston

So there have actually been a couple of things to happen in the last week to blog about. Who would have thought?

The first thing is that I am still working at the same long term temp assignment. It has been winding down the last week or so. Then on Friday, I talked to the lady from the staffing service, and she said that they want me to train with a lady in the Data Processing area who is 8 months pregnant. After 2 weeks of training, I will be taking over for her while she goes on Maternity leave. It looks like I'll be there for a couple more months. Plus, my pay will go up since the job I'll be doing is more involved. Very awesome indeed!

The really big news is that Nic's company hired him on permanently! He got a slight raise and will get benefits. We are really excited and finally know we'll be in Houston for good. We have really grown to love it here. We like our apartment and the area we live in. Nic likes his job and we have made friends with his coworkers. Other than the fact that we only know a few people (which has been hard not having many friends), we really feel happy here.

Till the next news, I'll just keep blogging about my fitness progress. I know it is pretty boring, but it has been good for me, so I'm going to keep with it. Please bear with me!

Fitness Diary: June 22 - June 28

I had a pretty successful week, although I was going to try and get a workout in today but didn't. We were in San Antonio this weekend, so I worked out Friday before we left, took Saturday off, and was going to workout when we got home. By the time we got home it was 7:30pm and I needed to eat and unpack. Oh well, 4 days out of the 7 is pretty good for me. Next week we are off work on Friday and will be in town all week with a house guest on Tuesday, but no one else the rest of the time. Here's this week's accomplishment...

Monday, June 22nd - Punch, Kick & Jam

Tuesday, June 23rd - Turbo Sculpt

Wednesday, June 24th - N/A

Thursday, June 25th - Cardio Party (Mix 1)

Friday, June 26th - Lower Body Jam/ 20 Minute Workout

Saturday, June 27th - N/A

Sunday, June 28th - N/A

I'm sorry if these posts bore anyone. I just really feel like this is good for me to document my weekly progress. I am starting to feel more fit and it keeps me motivated to see my activity laid out on the screen. I don't really look smaller, but I feel like there is some muscle under my fat. Maybe that muscle will show soon!

Fitness Diary: June 15-21

Here's what I did workout-wise this week. I will say that Nic's dad was in town this weekend, so it was pretty hard working out while he was here. It was very easy to eat this weekend. My diet is atrocious!

Monday, June 15th - N/A

Tuesday, June 16th - 3T

Wednesday, June 17th - N/A

Thursday, June 18th - Cardio Party (Mix 2)

Friday, June 19th - N/A

Saturday, June 20th - N/A

Sunday, June 21th - Cardio Party (Mix 3)

I am exhausted and feel like a nap now. I'm hoping that next week will be easier to get some workouts in. We'll see...

Fitness Diary: June 8-14

I've been doing Turbo Jam off and on for a couple of years. It is such a fun exercise series and I always feel great after I'm done working out. The instructor of these DVD's (I pretty much have the whole series (10 workouts)) is named Chalene Johnson, and I love her and hate her depending on how I'm feeling that day. She is blond with a great body and she is excited about everything and has tons of energy. It makes me sick! She is good about motivating me to keep going and push myself, so she makes up for her spunkiness in that aspect.

When I first got the videos, I was at my heaviest at 169lbs. I know that weight is in the same realm as telling your age or who you voted for, but I feel that to make this fitness diary work, I need to be forthcoming about everything.

I am currently down about 20 pounds, but I would like to get back into working out regularly and getting into better shape. I know I am lucky to be the weight I am, so I can't complain about that. The thing I find hard is being out of shape and finding it difficult to walk up stairs without getting winded (not to mention being able to fit into my older clothes). My plan is to log the workouts I do during the week so I am accountable to someone.

Here is what I accomplished this week...

Monday, June 8th - N/A

Tuesday, June 9th - Cardio Party (Mix #3)

Wednesday, June 10 - N/A

Thursday, June 11 - N/A

Friday, June 12 - N/A

Saturday, June 13 - Cardio Party (Mix 2) & Lower Body Jam

Sunday, June 14 - Cardio Pary (Mix 1) & Ab Jam

I am pretty tired today, and my legs really hurt from the lower body workout yesterday. I barely made it through the cardio workout I did today, but pushed myself through it. I am proud that I did it (I almost turned it off).

Very Sleepy...

Hi all! I hope everyone is doing well. I have been keeping very busy and feel pretty worn out at the moment, but am going to attempt some sort of blog that makes some sense (I don't know if that is actually possible though).

I have been working this week at a long term temp assignment. It is as a receptionist at a property tax consulting firm that is supposed to last for about 2 or 3 months. I am going backward in my job progression, as I started doing receptionist work when I was about 18. I would definitely say it is hard to go back to something that is so easy for me. I have always appreciated a challenge, and this is definitely not it. I am very glad to have a steady job (for the time being) and get a regular paycheck for a while, so I really shouldn't complain. Plus, the people are really nice and the office is just under 3 miles from my house.

I am extremely tired right now. It has been a while since I've sat in front of a computer all day and been up at 6:30am every day. The even bigger problem is that I've been having trouble sleeping because of so much stuff going on right now (my mind won't shut off). Then last night, the guy that lives in the apartment below us decided to practice his bass guitar (fully amplified) at 11:00. It was right about the time I was finally getting to sleep for the night. Then he stopped for a while and started up again at 1am! Again, right as I was getting to sleep after the first round of bassing. Nic went on our balcony and yelled down "Are you guys having a jam session?" (I guess some of his instrumental friends came for a visit). One of the guys responds, "Yeah, you want to check it out?" Nic told him, "no; it's one o'clock. I'm trying to sleep" and he asked him to turn the bass down. Without a response, they went inside and they turned it down (not off, but down). Getting up this morning was a major chore and I was pretty agitated by the whole thing. We probably should have called the cops, but I would hate to do that. Next time I definitely will, but hopefully now that the apartment office called them, there won't be a next time.

I'm sorry that this blog has turned in to a nag-fest lately. Hopefully I'll be more awake next time I get a few minutes to sit down and write a post. I hope to have something more interesting (and positive) to talk about. Till then... I'm off to bed.
