Sleepless nights. Twice now, visiting my parents house has meant sick child(ren).
In October, Toby was mysteriously vomitting off and on all week forcing us to stay home because we could never really tell if he really felt better and then just as soon as we were convinced, he'd barf again. Then I got anxious to go home and he had major diarrhea on the way and it was a nightmare to clean up in the middle of the cold, dark, windy desert with the lights of the next town teasing me in the distance. My hands and car smelled like poop the next 4 hours until I got home. And yes, I did wash them. Several times.
Currently, Toby has double ear infections, one has ruptured and his high fever just won't go away. Holden has a cold, and low grade fever. It's pretty fun. I pretty much want to sleep for the rest of my life. I am having feelings reminicent of the last visit. This sucks, I kind of want to go home. However, I fear leaving because of what may happen on the way home! Really, I'd rather stay and have the fun I was looking forward to but I am so worn down physically and emotionally that I wonder if it is possible!? Good grief!
Poor Darin is at home all by himself enjoying our brand new tv and the peaceful solitude of our quiet home alone. He says he misses us. He should be glad he is missing this! We sure do miss him!
I hope our next "vacation" comes soon.

what if?
What if your kid was having a crazy tantrum because you told him he could have juice and then there wasn't a drop in the house. OBVIOUSLY, you get a Dreyer's fruit popsicle out of the freezer, break half of it off, put it into a cup of water, shake it up and pacify that kid.
What if you walk around the corner to find your not quite 2 year old sitting at the computer desk scrolling through the google search that you left open on the computer? You take a freakin' cute picture and then can't figure out why you can't get the image onto your blog.
What if while you are in the shower your kid starts crying in a way that you know something is really wrong? You jump out wet, with shampoo in hair and rescue him. Then, when he freaks out worse because you are wet, naked and soapy, you leave him to cry and get back in the shower.
What if you told your husband you'd bring him lunch and then you don't get the chance to go to the grocery store? You go to In n Out. What if you pass one In n Out that's not that busy to go to one closer because that way the food will be warmer when you get there, and then that one is so busy it's going to take 20 min to get your food? You go to Wendy's across the street. What if Wendy's says their credit card machines aren't working and you realize you have no cash. You sigh, call your husband and tell him your foiled plans and decide to meet up at the Carls Junior up the street from his school. What if at Carls Junior the nicest manager ever, Richard, is talking your ear off and you need to order because time is ticking and you need to eat and go? Well, somehow fate would have it that Richard thinks you are special and buys your family lunch! PS- We had never met Richard before today. How nice!?
