IronMan

Just finished a horrible horrible course of exams and the holidays have began nicely with Iron Man 3!
Tony Stark was inspiring someone who is so specialized in his understanding of Science and Engineering, to the point where he got over his anxiety attack by placing his confidence in his skills. At the end, he knew that even without the suits and all, he was The Iron Man.

I gonna work towards someone with that confidence. As always, exam period shatters many prenotions. But there are also prenotions that have withstood the onslaught and are left standing for me to fashion a better person out from.

Alot of thinking to be done and alot of things to be done to get out of this rut, but with the seed of realization that exams have put in me, it's never too late!

本気で向き合う

This semester started off with a resounding boom of a canon shot and now its approaching midway. Death by pharm mods again. Japanese of course took up alot of time again. But this midpoint is different. Far different. In the past, I would be tediously fussy about the lack of communication with the changes around me. This time round, people continued changing. I started changing.

In the past, I would be bothered with what is changing.
Get this straight, I'm not against change.
My friends, change is definitely apparent in you guys.
I guess no one asks each other to change. It just happens. Nothing's wrong with that.
I have had held on to the law of life that no matter what changes, people CAN always stay as good close friends. We'll all meet up one day at someone's home to bake and eat cookies on rocking chairs.
But I've missed some relocation notices, I missed some DNRs.
I have tried to breathe life back into something that resembled the past. And with each booster shot of activity or gathering and resuscitation, a little part of me that wished to revert to past chipped away.

I guess the tipping point was around the time before CNY, after the barbeque that one friend, a good friend and I organised. It was fun, gathering around with old friends and re-acquainting with others.
Let's meet again for CNY! Let's meet again after [insert number] years! Let's meet at someone's house to lo hei and play mahjoong!
Enough. これはもう十分いいよ。

This semester, I'm required to watch video from a japanese documentary series called "Professionals" and one lesson that I brought away from watching all those people bringing professionalism into the things they do: 本気. I adapted it to become my current philosophy: 本気で向き合う. It contains the inherent courage to seriously face (each other).

To seriously face any problems head on as it looks back at you.
To seriously face my feelings and learn to let. it. go. already!
To seriously face the different each others.
To seriously face the fact that what might have mattered, need not be matter as much now. (ref pt 2)
To seriously face the coward in me who's balls has shrunk as experience told him to lay off risks.
To seriously face bullshits squarely, without reserve or hiding behind snide comments.
To seriously face the excuses I have built around myself with equal intensity used to tear down arguments.

Lazy Sun Noon update

I've been reading up on TimFerriss's website these past two days because he offers a myriad of tips which he calls life hacks. Very interesting reads, especially those on how to save time on emails. On language learning, I have learned about:
  • 100 most common spoken and written words in english
  • Using target language as a vehicle to learn more about a subject of interest
  • 3 elements of progression (effectiveness, adherence and efficiency)
  • Pareto’s Principle of 80/20
At the moment, I haven't really started any real work, just reading, storing information and bidding my time for something to happen. If you were to ask me where's the source of inertia and I were to look seriously, I guess there's none. Body and spirit be willing, I'll be starting on Russian alphabets and that Japan cultural code and words books I have borrowed before long ago. Wish me luck!

On the 2nd and 3rd day of Christmas, ....

Post Xmas, I spent time as an interpreter between a Japanese production group and a Singapore company. Only a month since last sem, but my japanese standard was dropped even lower than it was already. Rather than 100% clarity, I saw myself as a lubrication for the communication between the two groups. They can get by with body language and english from the japanese's side, but a go-between helped speed things up a little and saved people frustration.

A tempting job prospect to look into; being a paid instant interpreter/translator. And this lies beside the possibility of owning my own business hence freeing myself financially. But these two prospect clashes with the route of a clinical pharmacist, so I call those Plan B and A respectively for now.

I've been reading a book on 4hr workwk, and there was a part on Dreamlining; creating a list of things to have and to be for a period of 6 and 12 mths, that encouraged dream and gave advice on generating momentum towards it. Create your own list!
