Jack being silly

Jack had to get his tonsils out. It wasn't the most convenient time but is there ever? He got his tonsils out on the Thursday after school started. He had a rough spring and summer with being sick. Me and my boys are really susceptible to Strep. Jack has had it I think 7 times since last July. Finally we got the okay from Dr. Doug to go ahead and take out the tonsils. Jack was really nervous but mostly about the IV.

The best part was watching Jackson after they gave him versed to relax him. He was CRAZY! He just laughed and laughed. Wade and I thought he was faking at first but he wasn't. I think he would be a happy drunk! The surgery went great but the recovery was long. Jack was miserable for days. I was proud of him he never got down. I am lucky I got Jack first. He is so easy and good. I love him and I hope this keeps the sickness away.

First Day of School (6 weeks ago)

Love these boys

It seemed like summer flew by this year. The rainy June really cramped my style. I love summer and was so sad to see it end. The first day of school is always fun and exciting. I can't believe I have two kids in school. I love these boys. I know it is good to have a routine and structure but I have missed my lazy summer days. In fact I don't think we had many of them. Lately I have realized life is busy and I have had to adjust to my new "normal".

Daniel was so excited for Kindergarten. He has Mrs. Armkenecht and is thrilled. She will be very good for him. My hopes for Daniel this year in school are to enjoy school, learn to hold still, make friends and relax (he is OCD).

Jack is starting third grade. I can't believe how fast time goes. I don't feel old enough to have an eight year old but it is getting hard to remember life without him. He is a delight. I hope he continues to love school, works hard, and is nice to everyone.

I am happy to still have Luke at home with me. One more year with no pre-school. I love spending my days with this crazy kid. He keeps me busy and on my toes. He went to the ranch with Wade the other day and I couldn't believe how quiet it was and how easy it was to get stuff done. He is rambunctious but I wouldn't change him!

Coin For Colleen

My sweet Aunt Colleen was recently injured in a horse accident.  She was bucked off a horse and her life has been changed forever.She is paralyzed from the waist down.  As you can imagine the difficulties and challenges that lie ahead for she and her family, we are trying to help her raise money to remodel her home, pay for wheel chairs, and general medical expenses.

Matt Ward, the founder of the DirtyDash has generously offered to donate 25% of registration fees used with the code coinforcolleen. Okay fine perfect

This is Luke's latest favorite phrase.  I will tell him something and he responds with "okay fine perfect"  It doesn't matter if it is perfect.  It is usually when I am telling him no but this is his immediate response.  It is hilarious.  He has many funny phrases as all kids do.  He also says "Are you kidding me?"  He has such expression.  I think he picked that one up from me.  The other day he said to Wade "You change your mind like a girl changes clothes"  That he picked up from Katy Perry.  I guess I need to edit down my music.  He also tells everyone "I love you very very much".  The other night he had crawled into my bed and woke me up to say that.  He is so sweet and naughty.

I love listening to kids talk.  Some of my favorite moments are in the car when I listen to my children talking to each other or their friends.  It is amazing what they pick up on and how they mimic those around them.  All of my boys pick up on lyrics to songs.  I can't hear them correctly but they are just like their Dad and can hear anything.  Jack hears everything.  It doesn't matter where it comes from if he hears it he will eventually repeat it back verbatim. 

Lately we have spent MANY evenings at the baseball field.  The other night Truman (my nephew) was playing pitcher and he threw the ball to first base to get a boy out and they called the boy safe.  He clearly wasn't safe but Truman said to Isaac "That is bull s*%t. "  Isaac promptly told on him and he said he didn't mean to.  It wasn't his fault he comes by it rightly.  He comes from a  long line of swearers.  We try but we all know we have little potty mouths.  I guess we need to keep trying.

I love little boys.  I love talking with them but I especially love listening to them.

What smells like...

 

As many of you know I have an extremely sensitive nose.  This is one trait that my little Dan has inherited from me.  At least five times a day he says "What smells like...whatever?"  His most common offensive smells are gasoline, gas (bodily), poo, and chocolate.  He loves chocolate but not coming from someone's breath.  The other morning he asked me "What smells like sausage?"  I said "I don't know."  Dan said "I think it's coming from my stomach."  Wade and I laugh at this daily.  It is always something and sometimes when I think something smells good he assures me it does not.  

Daniel is such a happy boy.  He lives in his own world and when I tell him this he reminds me he lives on the planet Earth.  He doesn't need anyone to entertain him.  He loves coloring, puzzles, reading, DS, and television.  He most often plays with Luke and Lucy.  Friends are not all that important to him.  He loves them but is so entertained by himself that he doesn't usually ask to play.  He worships Jack and tolerates Luke.  He is very OCD and likes things done correctly.  Luke is usally the biggest offender in our family.  Dan comes unglued when someone isn't following the rules.  

This spring he has played soccer and baseball.  He is so excited to go but once he is there he looks as though he has no interest.  Wade is the coach and is positively certain he is the worst on the team.  If he is paying attention he is actually good but he is to easily distracted.  We took him to the batting cages and he did awesome with the fast ball but the slow coach pitch he struggles.  Oh well, as long as he is having fun right?  

  I will be so sad when he leaves me in the fall for Kindergarten.  I love this boy so much and am so grateful he is my little boy.

Book Club

I love to read.  One of the things I know  I have done right as a Mom is to instill the love of reading in my boys.  All of them love books.  Recently Jackson, Daniel, and I have started our own book club.  They always ask about my book club so we have started a kid's book club.  Currently we are the only three members.  Our first book is Pippi Longstocking.  Jocelyn gave this book to Jack a couple of years ago and he hasn't read it.  I think he thought it was for girls but now he is hooked.  He thinks Pippi is awesome.  Both Jack and Dan laugh out loud.  We read it together and take turns.  Daniel is pretty good but he is a little slow so he only reads a paragraph at a time.  It is so fun to lay in my bed and read with them.  We are almost finished with this book and then we will have our discussion.  So if your kids want to join let us know.  We are nerds and proud of it!

Fresh Start

I am so terrible at blogging but I have been missing it lately.  I miss keeping up on friend's lives and I miss recording my own.  Hopefully I have a renewed vigor to keep it up.  So many funny things happen that I'm sure I will remember only to forget within days.  Life is busy!
Lately...
Kim (my sister) was married to Matt Hollbrook.  The wedding took place at Nicole's home and this event kept us all busy.  Congratulations Kim and Matt.  You both deserve happiness.    I should have a picture but I don't.  I am certain Erin (Nicole's dear friend) took some fabulous ones.

I have also been enjoying BYU basketball this year.  Go Jimmer!!!  The boys watch with me but they don't really pay attention they just yell Go Jimmer!  The Jazz have given me nothing to cheer about this season.  Wade is amused by my love of basketball.  The other night I told him I really wanted one of my boys to love basketball.  We will see.

Our family was able to enjoy a week in Mexico.  We love going and spending time with Wade's family.  The boys look forward to vacations with them.  Jack is hoping we can move to Mexico and I can home school him.  Oh the dreams of an 8 year old boy.  I have tried to explain to him that his view of Mexico is not quite accurate.  We don't venture beyond the resort so his idea of Mexico is a little skewed.

Jack was baptized last weekend and so was Truman.  It was a great day and he had all his family there tosee .  Jill and Wyatt came in from San Jose.  Wade baptized him and Jason confirmed him.  It was a fun day.  I can't believe he is 8!

Our next adventure is spring sports.  We will be absent from our home in the evenings until June.  I am going to try to update this blog more often simply so I can remember how good life is!
