I just started a new book this week for my ward's book group. It's the book that I chose, and I've been waiting for months to get around to reading it. Toward the end of last summer, a friend of mine did a review of it on her blog, and it sounded interesting and even amusing to me (it wasn't the first time I'd heard of it). So I signed up for March's book group, and indicated that this would be the book I chose. Then, not knowing all of this, my sister bought me the book for Christmas. I've been chomping at the bit to get around to it. I really must be a nerd of ginormous proportions, because I'm just so excited to read it. I've only made it through the foreword and the preface so far, but I love it! The book:

Friday Feature: Funnies
I figure it's about time to share with you where I get some of my laughs on a daily basis that keep me sane. I've got a few funny sites up my sleeve.
First is the English Fail Blog. Many of you may be familiar with simple FailBlog, but I found the other one first. That's the only reason I read the "english" one...I found it before I found the plain-jane version. (First of all, if you're not familiar with the "fail" phenomenon, or correct usage of the expression, please read here.) English Fail Blog posts pictures of "fails" -- misspellings, incorrect grammar uses, and sometimes sheer stupidity. It's good for a laugh.
Next is Glitter Gone Bad. Many people are familiar with the Cake Wrecks blog (which I really don't find very funny, actually...it's boring to me). Well, this is the craft version. Crafts gone horribly wrong.
One of my favorites is church-related. Overheard in the Ward posts funny anecdotes and slips of the tongue that have been heard at church. Sometimes it is "out of the mouths of babes," but not always.
That's Punny! appeals to my inner nerd. They post pictures of punnily named businesses or signs, like a hair salon called Curl Up and Dye.
This week I added The 9th Ward to my funny subscriptions. It's more LDS humor...cartoons, primarily.

Wishful Wednesday: Bulb Syringe
I haven't done a WW post in a few weeks because there really hasn't been anything to post about. Today, however, I have a wish. I wish that I had a working bulb syringe nasal aspirator.
I know, it's kind-of a weird thing to wish for. There's a back story here, believe it or not. When we brought Jules home from the hospital, we had two (a la style above). We kept one upstairs and one downstairs. They both worked perfectly fine. Fast forward to our Christmas vacation. We took one with us, just in case (which turned out to be a good thing because Julie got sick). Well, we accidentally left it at Ben's cousin's house in Boston where we stopped on our way from Maine to Connecticut. Not such a good thing. So Ben bought another one while he was out doing last minute Christmas shopping in Connecticut. Problem: it was so stiff I couldn't squeeze it with one hand. It required two hands. And anyone who has ever tried to suck the snot out of a baby's nose knows that an extra hand is required for the purpose of immobilizing baby. It was useless. By the time we got home, I threw it out and started using the other blue one from the hospital. Somehow, it got lost. It's gone! I have no idea where it is. So we went to buy another one the last time Julie was sick. Neither the drug store I went to nor Target had normal ones. Okay, the drug store might have, but they were out. Who runs out of baby nasal aspirators? Really! Target had some fancy-schmancy Red Cross used-in-hospitals variety that opened on the bottom so you could dump the snot out (lovely). I squeezed all of them through the packaging to pick the most flexible one. Even the best one was still a stretch. By the time I tried to use it the first time (last week), it wouldn't work. I tried a couple of times, but it didn't have any suction. I figured it was because the tip was tapered and wasn't creating a seal. I looked at the bottom a few days later, and found a crack that doesn't show up unless you compress it. ARGH!
So I can't clear out my poor baby's passages because no one has a normal flexible bulb syringe nasal aspirator, and I can't find mine. That's why I wish for a working one.
Or I could just wish for a healthy baby. Maybe that's what I should wish for.

Hiatus
I realize I haven't blogged in awhile. I've got a few excuses up my sleeve. I've had company, I've been working on a new project, Julie's been sick (again), and I've been lazy. Mostly the last one. I have pictures and videos to post, but the camera is currently on another floor of the house, and frankly, I just don't want to go get it. (Please see final excuse above.) That, and the battery is re-charging anyway.
Company:
Ben's sister Crys and her husband Fred came to visit us for a week. It was a nice diversion for us, they enjoyed themselves, and Ben got to have a cat in the house for a week. As company goes, it was not a stressful visit. Things were low-key, and we were able to just enjoy all being together. The highlights of the week were probably the afternoon in Kirtland, and lunch at Chipotle.
New project:
Some of you know that I started a cooking blog a little over a year ago that a few friends also contribute to. It's kind-of fallen to the wayside as of late. Well, I'm getting back in the game. Another friend and I are starting a special kind of food blog. What's in {Your} Oven? is a cooking challenge blog. It was born out of frustration in the kitchen. Ever get stuck in a rut cooking the same meals over and over again? Looking to change things up little? Each week there will be a challenge ingredient given. The idea is that you make something new -- something you've never made before -- using that ingredient. The challenges start on March 1. Hope on over and take a look. Let me know if you'd like to join us!
Julie being sick:
Yeah, again. She'd been on antibiotics for 10 days for a double ear infection, an eye infection, and a cold. She finished those up three or so weeks ago. A week (ish) later, she had a day or two of sniffles, but they went away on their own. Today is about her third or fourth day of being really yucky again. She's super snotty; she's coughing up a lot of phlegm, but swallowing it again since she doesn't know how to spit it out; she's not sleeping well; she's not eating well; she's extra-cranky. Ugh.
Me being lazy:

Need help from Cleveland friends
Next Monday, Ben and I want to go out to dinner. We missed celebrating our third anniversary because I was in CT while Ben was already back here in OH after Christmas. We're combining that with Valentine's Day and our "Pi Anniversary" (3.14 years of marriage...yes, we're nerds) and would like to go somewhere nice, but reasonably priced. Any suggestions?

Happy Monday!
It's been a fun week with Julie. She talks all day long. She loves to babble, and I'm starting to think that a few of her "dada"s are actually on purpose. She is also working on the crawl. Her tights from today are all pilly on the knees, and it was the first time she wore them. Most of our house has hardwood flooring, which makes it tricky to stay on your knees when you've got pants on, but she can do it on the rug or the carpet.
I grabbed the camera the other day when Julie was being really silly. She found a stray sock of hers on the floor, and picked it up and just shoved it in her mouth and kept crawling toward me, huge smile on her face. I loved it! I was cracking up so much. She's such a funny girl, and she's starting to know it.
I absolutely love this action shot. This is so Julie.

Got her turned around.
I grabbed the camera the other day when Julie was being really silly. She found a stray sock of hers on the floor, and picked it up and just shoved it in her mouth and kept crawling toward me, huge smile on her face. I loved it! I was cracking up so much. She's such a funny girl, and she's starting to know it.

Wishful Wednesday: Follow up
There is nothing today that I am particularly wishing for, but I wanted to give an update on past WWs.
My sister-in-law Crys saw this post about notecards, and got me some cute ones for my birthday. Thanks sis!
Benjamin saw this post about kitchen stuff, and got me the pot I wanted for my birthday. I have used it so much already since then. I've loved it! Then, he got me a food processor for Christmas! He's the best!
In this post, I lamented my inability to find a simple square frame in a reasonable size for my project. Well, I finally found one! Unfortunately, it was still too big for my needs, so I sat and stewed over it for several weeks. I finally had a good idea. I made a matte myself. I glued some plain cardstock to an empty cereal box in the size I needed. This piece is finally finished (it should be...I started it roughly 18 months ago, and it was the inspiration for the entire nursery theme in the first place).
In this post, I was excited to go see the Dale Chihuly exhibit in Providence while I was home for Christmas. My mom, sister, and I all went to see it, and I have to say that I was thoroughly disappointed. It wasn't very big at all. I did take some pictures, and you can see them here.
Finally, in this post I bemoaned that I had purchased a fake tree this year, and wasn't otherwise decorating for Christmas. I am pleased to say that as fake trees go, I actually liked ours, and that the idea of having one has really grown on me. I also hoped that my mom would really decorate her house for Christmas, and I was not disappointed.
