Swim Lessons

We have finally spent enough time at home this summer for the kids to take a session of swimming lessons. They all did fabulously and really progressed a lot. Davis learned to love the water even more than he did before. He can now go down the slide by himself and he can jump off the diving board if someone is there to catch him. Jadee learned the crawl stroke and can float on her back by herself. She said to me on her second day of lessons, "Mom, yesterday I couldn't swim. Today I can!" That was a pretty accurate assessment. Jeron practiced strokes he already knows and learned some new ones. He's almost ready for swim team. We had two days cancelled because of lightening, so the Y is sending us coupons for the next session. Lucky kids! They get to take some more lessons.

Scar Face

Davis got his stitches out on Tuesday. He was so brave. The nurse said that he was the best patient she's ever had. When we were done, he took his money from Aunt Arva and Uncle Ron and bought four new Cars 2 cars. It is amazing to me that the movie is not out and he already knows the new characters. Here's the nurse in action...

I'll be putting HAVVN Activating Cream on that scar and updating its progress over time...I'm sure it will hardly be noticeable in no time at all!

Here's the story... We went on our first Idaho Explorers' Club field trip on Thursday to Hagerman Fossil Beds about 45 minutes to an hour away from Twin. We had two other moms and their kids with us. We were all excited for a fun learning experience.

Our first stop was the sand table outside the visitors' center. It is located up one small step to the right of the entrance. The kids had a great time digging for bones and brushing them off like real paleontologists. After they buried the bones for the next kids, we all started heading inside. I stepped back out the door to tell the stragglers, Davis and Evan, to come on in. Davis turned around, forgetting that he'd stepped up, missed the step down and fell headlong into the corner of the brick (or "block," as he says) building.

I saw it and I heard it and before I could process what had happened, blood was shooting out everywhere. I ran to squeeze his head together so that I could control the bleeding. All the kids came out to see what was happening...each one gasping when they saw him. This is the damage.

Jeron ran in to get some towels and find out where the nearest ER was...that would be Jerome...45 minutes back the way we came. Jill, my new friend, grabbed my keys and I ran with Davis to the car. We left the other nine (yes, nine) kids with Jennie. She was a super good sport. I called Jeremiah on the way and told him to head to Hagerman to get the kids...Jennie's car only had room for four. After a LONG drive to the ER in Twin (we decided we might as well go to the new, big hospital rather than try our luck at Jerome), we waited for about three hours before the doctor actually started the stitching. I guess I won't rush next time...apparently the bleeding is the issue and I took care of that quite splendidly.

So, to make a long story short...Davis experienced his first chemically induced high, as they gave him Versed (at my recommendation...can't imagine fighting with him to get the stitches in...that would have been way too traumatic). Then they shot him up with some Lidocaine:

Put in eight stitches...

Let the drugs wear off...

And sent us home with a little Frankenstein.

We go back on Tuesday to get the stitches out. Davis was so tough. He was worried on the way to the ER about whether or not he got his brain. Thank goodness for thick skulls! We kept the pain reliever in him that night and he slept all through the night (he doesn't do that when he isn't injured!). The next day he was right back to normal, crazy, rough play! We'll post some more pictures as he gets better.

Davis's Birthday

I'll bet you can't guess what the theme of Davis's birthday was? I think my cupcakes turned out super cute. LOVE the internet!

Our (Davis's and my) day started at 6:30 a.m. with legos. I built that plane in less than 45 minutes!

It was his last day of pre-school, so he took worms and dirt for a birthday treat to share.

Anticipating the Leprechauns

Jeron is taking a kinder, gentler approach to the leprechauns this year...

I'll let you all guess where all the gold wrappers that he is so kindly handing over came from?

Jadee is not so kind, nor gentle. She is convinced that this little contraption is going to catch her a leprechaun...

Davis made his trap at preschool and he, too, is hopeful that a leprechaun and his gold will belong to him and his preschool class tomorrow. We'll keep you posted!

Young Scientists

We had a great showing at the Sawtooth Science Fair. Jadee won Best Display for the kindergartens, and Jeron won overall for the 3rd grades. Davis just wanted his own board so that he can build a ship and some balloons because Jeron got some! :) I guess next year we'll have to do three projects. Jadee's class also did a project and they won Best Use of the Scientific Method. We forgot to take a picture of that :( Last night at 11 pm I was wondering why I even bother with the science fair...I guess this is why!
