So-long, Farewell

WHOA!! I can't believe that in just three days I will be a MISSIONARY!! I never thought this day would come (no joke) but I am so so soooo excited that I get to spread the good word and bring joy into people's lives. :) There honestly isn't anything else I'd rather do with the next 18 months of my life!

I've been SUPER busy getting everything ready to go, but in the mean time I've still managed to have a little fun. See for yourself!

Hiking Zion in the RAIN!

Sisterly Pine Valley Excursion

Hiking Horse Shoe Bend with Dad and Savy

There are lots of pictures of my luncheon but I can't seem to find them on my computer. Oh well, you can just check them on facebook! If I'm allowed to update my blog while I'm gone I definitely will!! If not....I'll check back in 18 months. :)

For now I will leave you with a scripture that pretty much sums up my feeling about serving a mission... Alma 26:12

"Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever."

God be with you till me meet again... :)

The Day Savy Woke Up Floating

I know this update is WAY overdue, but I've been super busy with missionary preparations, work, and house repair! Here's the inside scoop of what went on in my house the morning of July 31st...

I had gone to bed two hours prior, only to be awoken by the sound of thunder and the bright flash of lightening coming through my window. “Ugh.” I thought to myself. “I have to work ten hours tomorrow; I really need to get some sleep.” I fell in and out of my slumber for another 30 minutes when finally a loud crash and the sound of Savannah screaming my name jolted me out of bed.

(View from the back door where the water came in).
I ran downstairs and couldn’t believe what my eyes beheld. At least 2 feet of water stood in my basement, and more was rushing in my back door like a waterfall every second. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that the force of the water was so strong; it came pounding through my yard and actually broke the door right out of the frame.

(Look at the line on the wall. That's how high the water was).
I looked around feeling completely helpless. The water had ripped the carpet up, and pushed all of our furniture against one wall. Year books, photo albums, clothes, and appliances were all floating around me. Not knowing what else to do, I called my Dad. “Dad” I said, “Our basement is flooded.”
“Oh just lift up the carpet and put some towels down.” He responded.
“No Dad, I am standing in four feet of water and Savannah woke up floating in her bed!” Then he woke up!

We flipped off the breakers in case of electrical problems and decided to try and save what we could. We grabbed a couple of journals and three photo albums; that was it.
You learn very quickly what is truly important in life. All of a sudden I felt extremely foolish for spending $100 on a pair of jeans a few days before. We lost everything in our four rooms downstairs, but gained a whole lot of love and appreciation for the people in this community.

My brother-in-law Jason Pillmore was first on the scene with a water pump and equipment to divert the river of mud away from the house. Family members worked to clean up the mess, and just when we thought we could not go on any more, our house was flooded again; but this time with people.

(SOME of the clean up crew).
I felt completely rejuvenated and energized as I watched strong men, women, and children hauling bucket after bucket of muck out of the house, ladies sifting through the mud to find pieces of Savannah’s jewelry, and others chucking pieces of furniture on a heaping throw away pile that seemed to grow and grow.

With all of the backbreaking labor, there was nothing but smiles, laughter, and jokes as we transported the 23,625 gallons of muck out of our house.

Words cannot express the feeling of gratitude that grew inside of me. What would have taken us weeks to clean was accomplished in just a couple of days. I feel truly blessed to live in such a wonderful community where people can come together in trying times. From the very bottom of our hearts…THANK YOU!

Sittin, Waitin, Wishin...

As each week passes without a mission call, I hear the lyrics of the Jack Johnson song ring in my head. "I was sittin waitin wishin..."

Mission Call, not here yet.

I thought for sure it'd be here by today.

When the call didn't come, my impatient father decided to call the Stake President, who then proceeded to call the mission office.

The mission office informed us that there had been a "mix up" with my mission call, that it was now all taken care of, and that I would have my call by NEXT Wednesday or Thursday guaranteed.

President Johnson asked what kind of a mix up, but they weren't allowed to give any more info!!

Mix up huh? My imagination led me to wonder if the apostles of the church sat around a big round table discussing ME...weird to think about.

I've gotten really good at waiting, whats another week huh?

One thing is for sure, it is AAAAAALL in the Lord's hands, especially the timing. :)

Hopefully we can all wait until NEXT week. Remember kiddies...

Patience is a virtue.

Farewell Logan, Helloooooo Small Town

My last couple of weeks in Logan were good ones. I spent a lot of time with my roommates and the girls from my program. We had such a good time and I’m going to miss that place! Here’s a nice little photo of our last roommate dinner at Texas Roadhouse (soooo yummy). Oh and if you couldn't already tell, I colored my hair. Eh?

I’ll miss those girls!

We had our final ambassador banquet where I was awarded “Bubbliest Personality.” haha I’m REALLY going to miss all the ambassadors. It is such an amazing program and I am truly grateful to be able to surround myself with such outstanding people. It has truly helped me become a better person. I’m going to miss all the ambassadors but I look forward to coming back in 2 years and making all new friends!
Some of the Transfer girls...

Our true colors...

Finals went surprisingly well! I got 100% on one, 96% on another, and on the hardest final I’ve ever taken in my life (and I’ve taken quite a few) I miraculously pulled off an 85%! That final had 12 essay questions, it took me an entire 2 hours to complete, and by the time I was finished I walked out of the room with my brain so fried I wasn’t even sure of my first name. I prayed for an 80...but I’ll take an 85 too!
So for now it's back to my wonderful home town of Kanab for the summer!

I’ll miss Logan, but I am more excited to get onto the next big step in my life...

A Kindergarten Mother's Day

Today in Kindergarten we worked on some Mother’s day poems. We asked a few questions to each of the students and their respones were just too funny! I couldn't help but post them! Keep in mind this is coming kids about THIS age:

1. What does your mom smell like?
Make-up
My mom smells like the color pink!
Strawberries and peaches and bannannas....and...sometimes....grapes.

2. What does your mom look like?
She looks like a baby…that means she looks young.
My mom looks like Belle the Princess.
My mom looks like she is 29 years old.
She looks like beautiful Spanish.

3. Why do you love your mom?
Because she helps me get things that are too high.
Because she likes to play Super Mario Brothers with me and help me get star coins.
Because she always tries to cook for us even though it doesn't taste as good as Daddy's.

4. Why does your mom love you?
Because she thinks I’m beautiful and she always tries her best to look beautiful too.
Because I do chores for her and give her hugs and kisses.

What does your mom like to do?
She likes to watch Dr. Ozz.
My mom likes to clean the floor. (I’m so sure!)
Um…She basically just likes to cuddle and snuggle with me all the time.

Happy early Mother’s day to all you Mothers our there! Hope this gave you a little something to laugh about. :)
