Wild dreams of fast cars

2258hrs: Woohoo! I just had a blast riding in my friend's car. A Subaru WRX, turbocharged 4-door machine with dual exhaust, bucket seats all culminating to 225 eager ponies!!! He gave me a ride around my estate and showed me what 0km/h to 100km/h in 5.8secs really feels like! This is my realisitic dream car and for S$90k it's a steal. Considering the average 0 to 100 time for supercars is 5secs, the WRX isn't too far behind. I love the WRX, I just love it!!! And if it were a woman, I'd want to marry it immediately and have it bear my children!!! Ok, I'm still excited about it. Now I can't stop thinking about it...I wanna get one ASAP! I don't need a girlfriend I just want a WRX!!! Like my friend says, once you've got a WRX the girls will come to you. But I won't be interested I just want to spend quality time with my WRX at the track every weekend. Blasting my favourite tunes from my indispensible iPod while driving at full throttle...of course I'll take friends along and see if I can make them scream in fear while I take corners at 120km/h. My idea of fun is taking a corner sideways at 150km/h looking out the side windown and asking my wife "Honey, do you ever regret saying 'I do'?". Ahh....I can forget about all the troubles I had today and I'm looking forward to the Motorshow tomorrow! I took a day's leave for it just to see the Ferrari 430 though I'm not a big fan of it. Its design looks like it's a mix of the current 360 Modena with the front and rear lifted straight out from the Enzo. hmm...

Here's a pic of my dream WRX taken on Friday 19.11.2004 with the WRC decals. But the rims have to go cause they're not accurate.
Still excited at 2311hrs

Up, down, down, down & rock bottom

2351hrs: The title pretty much describes the past 7 days of my life.

Up:

Last Saturday 06/11/2004 was a major up because after waiting, hoping, anticipating and lusting for more than a year. I GOT MY iPOD!!!! I've been waiting for so long to have it. And I haven't had a working discman for so long. Now my FM receiver has been tossed aside again in favour of the beautiful iPod. But I don't know how beautiful it is now though. I managed to put micro scratches on it after 3 days. Cause I couldn't decide on a case for it. What's worse, I dropped it after 6 days. Today as I was getting down from the army 5 ton truck, I forgot that the pouch containing my iPod(which was in it's own bag and it's own case made from impact resistant plastic) was sitting on my lap so I happily hopped off and down came the pouch containg my latest darling. And I've been worrying about it all day. But it appears unscathed from it's owner's carelessness. I do hope it's alright...I've been waiting for so long to have it and I need it to last at least 5 years. And it's only the 1st week. My friends say I'm crazy to be spending so much on the iPod and it's accessories. Lemme recap all I've spent so far:

Apple iPod + remote = S$796

Sony Twin Turbo Fontopia ear phones = S$39.90

Contour iSee Showcase = S$45

Total: S$880.90

As you can see, the iPod is a huge investment for me and I'm still not done with the accessories yet. I'm gonna get another case for it which has shock absorbing features so that it'll minimise any impact on the precious iPod and it's gonna cost another S$65. If you think spending S$110 on casings for the iPod is unnecessary extravagance, I beg to differ. Spending S$110 to safeguard a delicate(It's a freaking Hard Disk Drive it'll shatter on impact) high-end equipment costing S$748(iPod only) is a very worthy investment. I think of the iPod as a toy that improves my quality of life and therefore it is imperative that I keep it in great working condition. And other than casing, I'm gonna be getting a special polishing compound for it which can buff out the minor scratches on it's front but thankfully I'm sharing the cost with another iPod owner. That should alleviate some of the financial burden on me. Fine, I admit I'm obsessed with keeping the iPod working and looking as new as the day I bought it. You would be too if you've been waiting as long as I did for it. I love it! It's the best investment EVER! I don't care that it only has 12 hours battery life compared to the Creative's battery life which is a little more. I dont' trust it's software interface whereas I've had experience with the iPod's software iTunes. It compliments the iPod nicely and that's good enough for me. And besides the iPod has already reached an iconic status which is pretty hard for Creative's line to topple. They don't call the iPod the dominant MP3 player currently on the market for nothing you know?

Down, down, down & rock bottom:

First down was scratching my iPod on the 3rd day of getting it. Second down was being put in a unit together with my archenemy. He's a foe I 'collected' during my first few weeks in the military and basically the both of us just try to stay out of eachother's way but by some sick twist of fate, not only am I posted to the same base as he is, we're in the same damned platoon! Both of us have raised our case to our superiors that it'll be best to avoid putting us in such close proximity or worse, asking us to work together. So now our superiors are on their toes afraid that we might sabotage eachother since we're dealing with sensitive ammunition work. Anyways I couldnt' care less about him. He can exist in his world and I'll exist in mine...we're separate entities altogether. Now that's settled. Then I dropped my iPod today...my precious precious iPod. And I was so distraught about it. But all appears well. And the most rock bottom part....

I was asked to sit in the truck's cab today and since I was sitting in front I was considered the Vehicle Commander and it was a first for me. Apparently being the V Com isn't just about sitting infront all comfy and knowing where to go. Apparently both the driver and I are supposed to ensure everyone's buckled up safely before moving. Obviously I had no such idea of such responsibilities. The first time me being a V Com there has to be an accident. And now I'm being partly blamed for the accident. Some idiotic worker today decided to walk onto the road and into the path of a 5 ton truck today causing the driver to brake very hard to avoid hitting him. The driver had little choice. It was either to brake really hard and injure the passengers at the back or hitting the worker and killing him in the process. I'm not exaggerating, considering the speed at which the 5 ton was travelling today it would've killed the idiot or injured him seriously. So the driver did an Emergency brake and sent people behind tumbling all over the place. And this guy in the back got his finger caught in gaps between the wooden benches and got his finger cut and twisted at the same time. So now the driver and I are in trouble for not making sure everyone had their seatbelt on. Even though I didn't know it was my responsibility at the time, I told the guys to put on their seatbelts anyway. But they refused cause it affects their level of comfort. And now that someone's hurt, the Singapore Armed Forces is looking for heads to roll. And mine happens to be at the forefront. Fuck! Why does it have to fucking happen to me???!!! Seems like trouble comes looking for me...just two weeks ago I barely escaped an AWOL charge over something ridiculous and now THIS! I really don't think this whole conscript thing is working for me. And now I understand why people change so much when they're conscripted. It's cause all of a sudden you're placed under such heavy responsibilities(even those not known to you) and anything that goes wrong might affect your future dramatically. And now I'm awaiting punishment though not serious enough to warrant a stay in military prison but enough to get me an informal punishment. I fucking hate it! It's not even my fault and my world's going to hell. I'm just gonna forget about this stupid incident over this long 3 day weekend. I just want to enjoy myself and forget about the fucking punishment waiting to greet me on Tuesday morning. Life sucks especially when you're being paid a pittance to act like a fucking monkey while working your ass off like a fucking dog and in the process sustain physical injury. I admit that I'm not soldier material in the end, who is? Girls have it real easy here in sunny Singapore. No wonder most of them turn out to be such spoilt, pampered princesses who honestly believe they're worth much more than they really are. Which is quite sad considering beauty and brains wise there are much better imports out there in the Pacific. Sometimes I just wish this whole damned world would just leave me alone. Let me live out my life in peace and not having to suffer like I did today. My back feels funny from the 50kg crates of Bangalore Torpedoes we were lugging around today. It's aching and so are my knees and wrist. Doesn't matter that I'm not suppose to be carrying loads above 5kg cause my back and knees will suffer badly later. FUCK the SAF. The whole SAF can just fucking blow me. I hate it!!! I fucking hate it!

When a flower blooms, it is breathtaking.

2121hrs: Saw flower girl again today at the bus stop. Even though I was wishing and hoping to see her today, I wasn't prepared when she appeared. I turned into a blabbering idiot in front of her. I was hoping to send her home on the bus but she had a friend with her who was going the same way. So I just stood there trying to talk to her but my mind was too numb from the monotonous day I had. But still seeing her made my day and it's the perfect end to the hellish situation that I had. I noticed some of my pals were giving me a funny look when they saw me talking to this drop dead gorgeous girl and I'm sure they'll be asking me about it tomorrow morning. Honestly speaking, I've never been attracted to how she looks but more by what she is. She's one of the nicest girls I know and she's just so alluring. She's a dream and perhaps a dream that's far beyond my reach. Never the less she left me so nervous today and I thought I was acting like such an idiot. But I did call her later after I got home and told her I wasn't talking much cause I was really zonked. And I inadvertantly blurted out that she's changed a lot compared to when we were in cathetism class 6 years ago. But she looked the same even just 2 years ago. I told her she's always been beautiful just that she was always in a simple t-shirt and jeans. But when I saw her the first time at the bus stop, she looked totally different cause she was dressed in a skirt with her hair tied up the same way that it's always been and she looked good. I mean she really shines when she dresses up properly. And she always seems to have make-up on her lips even though she says she doesn't. But I guess her lips are just naturally so erm...made-up? Hmm...I wonder how much better she'll look if she let her hair down. I know I want to get closer to her but it's so tough. It's bad enough that I rarely see her and she probably has her own fan club in her University. Sometimes I think I might be in way over my head. But I feel honoured just being in her presence.

A klutz
All Shook Up by Elvis Presley

Well I bless my soul
What's wrong with me?
I'm itching like a man on a fuzzy tree
My friends say I'm actin' quer as a bug
I'm in love
I'm all shook up
Mm mm oh, oh, yeah, yeah!

Well my hands are shaky and my knees are weak
I can't seem to stand on my own two feet
Who do you thank when you have such luck?
I'm in love
I'm all shook up
Mm mm oh, oh, yeah, yeah!

Well please don't ask what's on my mind
I'm a little mixed up, but I'm feelin' fine
When I'm near that girl that I love best
My heart beats so that it scares me to death!

She touched my hand what a chill I got
Her lips are like a volcano that's hot
I'm proud to say she's my buttercup
I'm in love
I'm all shook up
Mm mm oh, oh, yeah, yeah!

Well my tongue gets tied when I try to speak
My insides start shaken like a leaf on a tree
There's only one cure for this body of mine
That's to have the girl that I love so fine!

She touched my hand what a chill I got
Her lips are like a volcano that's hot
I'm proud to say that she's my buttercup
I'm in love
I'm all shook up
Note: That's how she makes me feel...all shook up.

Major Pain, Major Trouble & Major Klutz

2041hrs: It's been an end to one helluva a week. Spent the whole of last week being depressed about being permanently posted to camp hell. Just the thought of having to wake up at 0500hrs for the next 19 months really puts me off. After that I got in trouble with Major Bananaman. Rumour has it that the Major got his namesake one day when he attended an IPPT run dressed totally in yellow. And though I find this hard to believe, during the run he was apparently chased by the resident primates(thinking that he was a big mobile banana). And thus now he's known to his men as Banana Man, Monkey God, Gorilla or other much more creative names. As you probably would've figured out, this Major isn't very popular with his men thus the names. And we(the new guys) were told to stay out of his way. Which I abided to but I had a horrible run in with the Major last Friday. Being so tired and stressed up for the whole of last week, I decided to see the doctor for my diarrhoea(HA! I can spell it!). So I called the base clerk at 0730hrs and let him know I was going to the clinic near my home. Thinking everything was settled I went back to bed cause the clinic doesn't open till 0830hrs. But at 0820hrs the clerk called and told me I couldn't go to the private clinic and that I was required to see the Army's Medical Officer instead. And I was required to reach there by 0930hrs. Here's the thing, I wasn't freaking ready to leave my house and by the time I left, it was 0900hrs. I couldn't get a freaking cab down cause cabs seem to disappear at my place in the mornings. When I did finally get a cab, it was already 0943hrs and it took me another 30mins before I reached the damned base. It usually takes me more than an hour to get to the base by bus. So I was late by 40mins. Saw the MO, got the medicine which never works and got an excuse for light duties. I suspect the MOs are instructed not to give out Medical Leave unless the patient has fever or is unconscious on the floor. Other than that he's fit for duty. So I got back to base around noon. Got interrogated by the NCO and he didn't believe I was sick. Referred the case to the Major and everything went crazy from there. The damned Major interrogated me and before I knew it, he was shouting "CHARGE, CHARGE, CHARGE HIM FOR AWOL". Whoopeedooo....barely 2 days in the new base and I'm getting charged with AWOL. Apparently I was considered missing between 0800hrs to 0900hrs. And that's enough for AWOL. So there I was getting freaked out about my predicament thinking about the worst case scenario. Which was the brig(as you Americans call it) or Detention Barracks. Which is equivalent to a civillian prison only much harsher. But the true meaning of Absent Without Official Leave means being totally uncontactable during working hours. So it doesn't apply to me since I did contact the base about going to the doctor. So I spent the whole Friday petrified about what's gonna happen and the NCO helped make it worse by giving me lots of time to think while guarding the Major's empty office. So I was sitting in front of the vacant office doing nothing for one whole day 'guarding' the Major's Office from any would be intruders on BASE. Since I couldn't do anything to that's even remotely intellectually stimulating, I just sat on the chair and watched the world go by. And before I knew it, I was being called the Major's Guard Dog....with people asking where's my dog handler...blah blah blah. So that was how I spent my Friday.

When I got back to camp yesterday, my friends were telling me why I was getting so much flak from the NCO & the Major. The only reason why they were so hard on me was because they just didn't like new guys to be on Medical Leave. And they were trying to scare me by 'charging' me. When in reality there was no court marshal being processed at all. Everyone was busy with base operations. And anyways the Major and the NCO ignored me yesterday and today. The NCO even smiled at me today. So I guess it's safe to say that everything's alright now.

Something good happened today....
