2 Years

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos
How is it possible that two years ago today I had a tiny newborn and today I have a sweet toddler?

Having Kamryn has been such a joy. She loves to read, swing in the backyard, put things in and take them out, play with her daddy, run away in the middle of diaper changes, do flash cards on the iPad, eat cookies, watch cars go by, torture the cat, and give hugs. I have so much more to say but blogging on my iPad is a joke so will save it for later. Suffice it to say that my life has been forever changed by this sweet girl and I wouldn't trade her for the world.

36 weeks

Hello Kitty Graphics

I haven't said much about my pregnancy here, so I better hop to it before this baby arrives!

In December I found out I was pregnant. This pregnancy was different than my last from the beginning. With Kamryn, I was nauseous all the time during the first trimester and could hardly eat anything. This time, I was nauseous if I was hungry - so I ate all the time. I'd rather be full than sick, and I've got the thighs to prove it!

We found out it was a boy in February, just as we suspected. (Though I'm still a little afraid the ultrasound was wrong! Guess we'll find out soon enough.) I wouldn't say he moves any more or less than Kamryn, just differently. Since Kamryn was breech the whole pregnancy, she was high in my belly with her head directly under my ribs (which was super comfortable, let me tell you). This little guy has been head down (pretty sure he still is) and it makes for a very different pregnancy. I carry him much lower, which has put a lot of stress on my back.

When I was pregnant with Kamryn, my whole life revolved around the pregnancy. I thought about it all the time. This time, I was so busy being Mommy to a little busybody that I frequently forgot I was pregnant. I was comfortable and was content to be pregnant for quite a while.

Since I entered the third trimester, I am (like anyone else) much bigger and much more uncomfortable. I get tired easily and it's hard to do much of anything. Though since the baby has dropped, my back hurts less and I rarely have acid reflux anymore (woo!). What is great about the third trimester is lots of movements, which are fun to watch, and the nesting instinct, which helps me clean even when I'm exhausted.

I've had lots of Braxton Hicks contractions this pregnancy. I did have them with Kamryn, but I could only tell I was having them if I pressed on my belly. This time, I can definitely feel them. They rarely hurt, but they take my breath away. It can be very distracting and sometimes I get them so frequently I wonder if labor is starting, but they always taper off. The bright side is that my body is practicing for the real thing, so that makes me happy.

I'm a bit like a first time mom in the fact that I've never experienced labor, so that part will be a whole new world to me. I'm very curious to see how it all goes. Will my water break, or will I just slowly start contractions? Will he come early or late? Will labor be long? Who knows! My estimated due date is August 12th, so we'll see what happens in the next 4 weeks!

Untitled

Is this blog worth updating? I know I'm terrible at blogging, but now that I have a wireless router I can blog anywhere in the house. I just don't know if anyone reads this anymore :(

Except you, Dad. I know you do :)

Nap time with Daddy

I finally uploaded the pics from my camera! (Maybe next time I'll try more than one USB port before I decide something's wrong with my camera...duh). Since these are nearly a year old, Kamryn is just a teeny baby. So, let's go down memory lane to nap time with Daddy...

In the last one, she's sleeping with her head propped on Skyler's fingers. He would rock her gently and she slept a lot like this. These days she will not sleep in ours arms or even cuddle, she has to be sitting up looking at everything (or leaning over your arm trying to grab something).

So sweet to see her so tiny! Almost makes me want another tiny baby...oh, that's right. *wink* Four more months and we'll have another tiny one!

Life lately

I haven't blogged in almost 4 months. Sorry about that. Life gets in the way of such things. Like, the fact that I'm pregnant with #2 and I'm trying to keep an 8 month old happy. Sounds pretty manageable, but not so much for me.

Kamryn's a much better baby these days, which has made my life easier, but she's still not an easy baby. She cries every time I leave the room and gets bored easily. For some reason the past week she's reverted back to her old ways and is constantly whining, and frankly my patience is pretty shot. I can't figure out what the problem is. Hopefully it stops soon because Sky is working 50 hour weeks and going to school Thursday nights and all day Saturday, so I parent her pretty much by myself. On the bright side, she's finally sleeping through the night (knock on wood!).

I wish I were posting tons of cute pictures of Kamryn, but I actually haven't loaded pics on the computer since she was born. They're all still on my camera. Some day I will post cute pics with clever captions, you know, maybe when she's 5. Or 15.

I'm not sure how much of it is pregnancy hormones or the fact that I've been cooped up indoors pretty much since Kamryn was born, but I've been kind of down lately. It was 60 degrees for a few days and we took advantage of it by going for walks, sitting in the backyard on a blanket, and going to the zoo. I was pretty happy for those few days. Now it's near freezing and there's snow on the ground. Sigh. My house is a disaster and I'm totally lacking motivation to do anything about it, not to mention that I've got pregnancy exhaustion. It's hard work growing a baby and raising one and my house shows it.

I see all these moms who have clean houses, happy babies, and still have time to do craft projects. What would it be like to have that life? How do they get that life? How do I get that life? Maybe some day I will. Like when this baby in my belly is in junior high. Or college. Who knows. Maybe when spring comes I will feel better.

Why I've been MIA lately...

Let me preface this post by saying that I am absolutely head over heels in love with my baby and I don't know what I'd do without her. She is my everything and I love her more than I know how to say.

Kamryn is not an easy baby, to put it mildly. She was extremely well behaved until she was about 6 weeks old, then everything went downhill. Frankly, things are still going downhill, 5 months later.

I don't know why she is so fussy. She is happy about 10% of the day, and the other 90% she is fussing. This is not an exaggeration. She only poops about once a week, which we are suspecting is part of the problem. Yes, we've been to a gastroenterologist and no, we still don't know what the real problem is (or if there is one).

The past month or so we have learned that it is absolutely hopeless to take her anywhere after 5:00 pm. She cries and cries and cries, without exception and no matter what we do. It's not worth even trying to go anywhere anymore, even during the day. If I go to the grocery store without Skyler, I can't pick up more than 5 items without a meltdown. Needless to say, I don't really go anywhere anymore.

Right now I am working on the theory that more regulated sleep will help and trying to consistently keep to a schedule. It's helping yet not helping. Six 20 minute naps a day are not restorative. Neither are nights when she wakes up 5 or 6 times.

I spend my entire day trying to keep Kamryn happy and everything else is put on the back burner. My house is a total disaster, totally undecorated, and totally depressing. I have almost no social life (not that I really had one before anyway).

I just want my baby to be happy. I know there is a happy kid in there somewhere, if I could only figure out how to make her come out.

Some people might react to this by never wanting to have another kid, but not me. It would be impossible to have a harder baby (barring a medical problem), so bring it on. It couldn't be any harder than it is now. Don't think I want another baby now. I don't. It's a really bad time. Later.

I do know that this too shall pass. Sometimes it's the only thing that keeps me going. Someday she WILL be happy.

The other thing that keeps me going is that smile. When she is happy, she's really happy. She squeals, kicks, rolls on her side, laughs, chews on her hands, yells, spits, and generally goes into paroxysms of delight. It makes my heart light to see it. I know that when this is all over, that's who she really is.

So this is why I don't go to events anymore and why I don't write blog posts. Some days I handle it all pretty well, and some days I want to crawl into a hole and never come out. I know that it will end, and in the meantime I am trying to enjoy the little things. She is my baby and despite all this, I wouldn't change her for the world.
