Summer time

WELL... it's summer time again.  This means that I have made it through the last two months again without a husband.  It also means I survived the flight with six kids, six backpacks, one carryon suitcase, two dolls, and a ukulele.  We have unpacked, stored the freezer with meals for the next month, and are doing our best to get familiar with our new surroundings.  This year we are in Pennsylvania.  It is beautiful here.  Reed has loved every single second of it here.  His excitement is contagious.  After we got off the plane and could instantly feel the humidity, he said, "Pennsylvania smells AWESOME!"  As soon as we got off of the plane, met up with dad, and loaded into our new-to-us minivan, we were off to see some sights in DC.

Since we have arrived, there have been thunderstorms every evening.  We were lucky enough to avoid most of it last night when we were at the carnival that was literally across the street from our apartment.  It was great because apparently WE (kids+me+cousin Emily) were some of the few that decided to brave the weather (and the tornado watch).  This meant 0 crowds and 0 wait for the rides.  The kids loved every minute of it.  I'm getting old.  I was only able to ride two of the big kid rides before I almost lost my dinner and called it a night.

We've managed to pack our days full of fun.  Today we visited the pool.  It is huge.  The kids all had a great time.  We had lots of help at the pool.  The girls "swam" with Emma and their new friend Bri.  Max spent time with his bestest cousin Tyler, and the other big boys.  Dad worked with Reed on swimming, and I did my best to help a very sleepy Eden think the pool was a fun place.

On the way into Walmart today, we had our first encounter with an Amish horse and buggy.  Reed thought it was pretty mean of them to use horses as cars.  We had a quick history lesson on the way into Walmart.  :)




In other news...Max lost a very bloody tooth yesterday morning while playing basketball..

Hello Again

 It's been so long I'm not sure how to do this anymore, nor do I have much time BUT...I wanted to get some photos up of my kiddos and our summer events.

SO SO FUN!
probably our favorite part of Disneyworld.
This picture of the giraffe was taken without zooming in.  They were really that close!  In the below picture you will see Expedition Everest behind Brent.  It is, in my opinion, THE BEST in all of Disney.  SO SO fun.  The kids have been on it about 8 times.  They have been in the front, the middle, and the back.  We also saw some pretty cool shows at Animal Kingdom.  SUPER fun.

This is a turtle Heather came across in the road at our apartments.  He was on his way to the water. Emma and Max both took turns holding him.  He was very pretty and tame (unlike a different turtle Max met at the church pavilion one day after church).  We have some amazing birds that live at the apartments as well.  Max has been able to complete the bird and fishing part of his scouting conservation award just right outside the front door.

Okay, so these pics are in random order.  Above is Emma's birthday celebration.  She wanted a Minnie Mouse cake.  She started the day with a breakfast date with her dad.  Then, she went to her friend Sara's where she got her hair and nails done.  Next, it was home for a treasure hunt.  Later that night after dad and the boys came home, we had sweet pork burritos and cake and ice cream.   

Here we are a EPCOT.  We have been here twice and still want to return.  There are SO many neat things to do at each park.  At EPCOT, the kids went on a mission with Perry the Platypus to defeat the guy he always tries to defeat...The evil somebody (it's 2am and i cant remember much at this point)

We spent his birthday at the beach.  It was SO fun.  The kids really enjoyed riding the waves and playing in the sand.  It was great fun.  

We've been bowling a few times.  It's free for the kids.  So it's a nice indoor thing to do (a good way to keep the sunburned kiddos out of the sun).  Max and Emma are really quite good. And the others love to try!

Beauty and the Beast...Awesome!!

Max was the Jedi spy on Star Tours...That ride is way sweeter than it used to be.  They have 50 different tours so you are bound to have a different experience each time.  Pretty cool.

I'm just going to end it here because it doesn't get much better than this!  How stinking cute is this little girly that is growing up way too fast!!!

It's GREAT to be EIGHT!

Well Mr. Max is now a big time eight year-old! I can hardly believe it. We had quite the celebration. We started the day by attending a kids clinic at Lowes. The kids made binoculars.

Max got a some get up and move Wii games. They played and played those for hours and had much fun.

Once dad got home from work, (about 9:45pm) we had cake and ice cream with dad and the rest of the office. Max was in heaven with his big boy cousins.

Then...

Max got his big gift...tickets to the Reds game (along with some peanuts and Crackerjacks).

Then it was game on... with Wii Party and Just Dance 2 until early morn.

LOVE TO SEE THE TEMPLE

We woke up Sunday morning and decided to make the 4 hour trip to the Kirtland Temple. We are SO glad we did. It was very interesting and a great learning experience for all of us. It was well worth the drive.

The kids were so excited to be able to see and go inside the first temple.

After visiting the temple, we went to Historic Kirtland and saw a few things there.

We (and when I say we, I'm including poor Nate and Ashley) definitely had to wrestle 1 and 3 year olds more that usual Sundays. They all like to climb and touch the things they aren't supposed to much more than they should. I wonder how far in the future a true Sunday "day of rest" will be. For now I will do my best to laugh and enjoy the moment.

HELLO OHIO

Well it was quite the day, but after a two hour flight, a three hour layover, and a 3hr 45min flight...we MADE IT!!! I was probably the worst traveler of the bunch. I'm not very patient when it comes to traveling. The kids were great. A flight attendant even told me at one point (on the 3hr 45 min flight) how impressed she was with the kids' manners...that made my trip. We left at 8:30am and arrived here in lovely Dayton, Ohio at 2:30am.

Notice Number Three with his hands in the air. He did this every time we took off, experienced turbulence, and landed as if we were on a ride at Disneyland. Pretty cute.

1:00am at the Columbus Airport waiting for dad to bring pick the van around to pick us up. We checked nine pieces of luggage. We carried on 4 pack backs, a computer back, a diaper bag, and Samantha and Kaiya (Emma's American Girl dolls), and a small suitcase... oh...and two 19 month olds.

Since we've been here, we've made friends with the ducks, the birds, and a chipmunk. They know we will feed them at least 4 times a day. Although, they have figured out if they run away and hide from Number Three, he eventually will go back inside and then they can come back when it is safe and eat the very large pieces of bread that he has thrown out for them. The babies just run around, pick the bread up off the ground, and eat it themselves.

I managed to take all five kids swimming Friday, and it actually went rather well. Forgive me for not having any pictures to post...I had my hands pretty full. The verdict: Lyza loves the water...Kate...not so much.

The kids have also enjoyed watching and even catching fireflies once the sun goes down. Max is the champion at that. We have been playing lots of card games and making up a lot of our own fun here in the apartment. (the van isn't registered so I haven't wanted to go many places without plates.)

AND SO IT BEGINS..

Here's my three biggest reasons it's been a while since I last posted. They are SO much fun...even when they are all sick with fevers and coughs and need to be held constantly (this week), and even when the babies pee through newly washed (and scrubbed) car seats (the week before that), and even when the two year old decides to empty the bath water thus resulting in the replacement of flooring in both the bathroom and hall (a two week process the two weeks before that). We can't even imagine how life would be without these little people. Life is good.
