Cannon's Birth Story

I figured I better record this story somewhere, before I start to forget things about it, so here it goes! On Friday, July 12th I went into the Dr. for my usual appointment. I was a day shy of 39 weeks, and not much had been happening on the baby front except that I was getting fatter. My Dr. informed me that he was going to be out of town the whole next week, but if I wanted he was fine with inducing me, and I wasn't too keen on the idea of having another Dr deliver Cannon, if I could help it. He let me choose if I wanted to do it the next day or the day after. I opted for Sunday instead of Saturday to give us a little more time to get everything ready.

Sunday morning we went into the hospital at 7:30. My nurse got my IV going, but not my pitocin for some reason. My Dr. came in and broke my water, said I was at a 3, and told my nurse to get me going. He was kind of annoyed that the pitocin wasn't already started. He also told me he thought I would be the first to deliver that day, so I had to be. I make everything a competition, including child birth. Then we SAT THERE. I did have some contractions on my own, but nothing too exciting or consistent. FINALLY at 10:30 my nurse got the pitocin going and I informed her that I didn't feel the need to be tough this time around and I was probably going to want my epidural in the next hour or so. She said I was next in line and the anesthesiologist should be in in about 15 minutes at 11:00ish. Then 12:00 rolled around without anything happening and I called the nurses station because I was in quite a bit of pain. I remember several times telling Josh to shut up because he was talking during a contraction. Ha ha. They hurt pretty bad at that point.

I got my epidural at about 12:10 and I asked to only have part of the initial dose because I didn't want to be numb forever like I had been with Reagan. Not my smartest move, only my left side went numb. So then I pretty much wanted to die until the anesthesiologist had me push my rescue button. At about  12:45 I was numb (yay!) and my doctor came in and checked me. Low and behold, I was completely dilated and ready to push. They asked me if I minded having some EMT observe and I said it was okay, but really I didn't want any extra eyes. He informed me that it was all good cause his wife had had 4 kids and he had delivered 3 in the field, that didn't really make it any better but I focused on other things...until it came time for me to push and the nurse grabbed one of my legs and Josh was going to hold the other, but the EMT guy did. Yeah, that was weird. I started pushing at 1:10 and came to find I wasn't totally numb, if you catch my drift, so that was fun. 7 minutes later Cannon was born!!! He was 6 lbs 9 oz and 19 inches long. He had quite a bit of dark brown hair and was pretty calm about the whole thing. I had him in about 2 1/2 hours (from the start of the pitocin). Not too shabby. Just think, if my nurse was on top of it, he would have been born before lunch. P.S I totally won, I was the first to deliver at the hospital that day. Go me! :) P.P.S I really liked all my other nurses, just not the first one. I actually got a new one about 20 mins before I started pushing, so that was good.

So far Cannon had been a real fatty. He eats every 1 1/2 to 2 hours round the clock (I might be a little exhausted). He is a pretty mellow guy, except for when it is time to eat (again, he is a fatty). At his two week appointment he had already gained a whole pound. He is so different from Reagan in that regard, and the whole being mellow thing. We are so glad he is here and are excited to continue to watch him grow!

Catch up!

So I have been a serious slacker when it comes to blogging. I just haven't felt the urge...and usually when I have the drive to accomplish something these days I end up cleaning something or getting something ready for the baby. BUT I realized that if I didn't update now, I very well might skip over what we have been up to in the last few months all together. Well, if I am being honest, I AM skipping over a lot of what we have been up to and I am just gonna focus on two main things. First up, Reagan's 2nd birthday!

Reagan's birthday and Mother's day just happened to be the same day this year. It was fun to think that this little girl that we were celebrating was the reason I am a mommy. It made for a special day for me. We just love her more than I could ever try to put into words, even if I was one of those super eloquent bloggers, which I am so not.

We were planning of taking Reagan to Kangaroo Zoo the day before her birthday to let her run wild and have the time of her life, but as luck would have it, she didn't take a good nap that day and I knew that wouldn't be a good plan if we wanted to actually have fun. So we settled for the park. On Sunday we had the Grandparents over for ice cream and cake and we opened presents. We bought her a little play kitchen that she adores and she got hopped up on sugar. Then later in the week we did go to Kangaroo Zoo and the cuteness of her jumping around nearly killed me. Crazy that she is two! That year went by WAY too fast.

Then over Memorial Day weekend Josh's work sent everyone in his department up to Jackson Hole. I hadn't ever been there before, but now I love it! I would love to live there (during the summer at least). We drove up on Friday and by the time we got there (about 7) this pregnant lady was only up for dinner and bed.

The next day we rode the tram in Teton Village up to the top of the mountains and had waffles in a little    shack/shop at the top of the Tetons! It was really cool. Then we went into Jackson and took in the local charm of the town. We found the time in the day to drive up the Jenny Lake in the Teton National Forrest. It was really beautiful and worth the drive! That night we went to a working cattle ranch and had some AWESOME steak along with other yummy cowboy grub. We decided to drive home the next day (QUICK trip) even though we could have stayed through Monday, but we wanted to spend the rest of the holiday weekend with Reagan, since my mom had her while we were away (Thanks a ton mom)!

A few days later Josh and I celebrated our FIVE year anniversary! I cannot believe it has already been five years. Crazy. We celebrated with flowers, Chili's to-go and last but not least, my mommy came over while Josh and I went to Leatherby's for an ice cream fix. My oh my it was yummy.

So that is what we have been doin, along with BBQs, Father's Day, play dates, gardening, watching lots of Brave's baseball, trying to stay cool and getting ready for a little boy in the family. So now I can check updating the blog off my to-do list. Woo Hoo!

A post for Reagan

Reagan is at such a fun and crazy stage right now, and I can't help but feel that my baby is going to be gone very soon and I will have a little lady on my hands! So I wanted to take the time to record some of the things she has been up to lately so we can always remember her at this stage. (Warning: This post will probably be pretty wordy and not so picture-y, proceed at your own risk!)

Just feedin her "bobi" some lunch.

She has been talking A LOT lately. I swear everyday brings a new word that I didn't even know she knew. Some of her favorite things to say include: ha hog (hot dog), go (for when daddy won't leave her alone), ca-cas (cookies), Nan Nan (my mom), jush (juice), and bobi (baby). She says tons of things, but those are the most often repeated at house. Mama has to be her number one most said word though, I think I hear it about  300 times per hour!

She has quite the...shall we say, personality. Okay, it is really attitude! She thinks she is bigger than she is. She refuses to ride in her stroller anymore and she WILL NOT ride in a cart at the store. She thinks she should be pushing the cart or holding my hand so she can get to everything on the shelves. Needless to say I rarely have the will power to venture anywhere too crazy without Josh there to help wrangle her now a days. She also thinks she needs to buckle herself into her booster seat, most days I have the patitence to let her do it, but on the days I buckle her in she gives me a look like I betrayed her and it breaks her heart.

For about a week, every time I went to get her up in the morning she was naked! What a goof ball.

She LOVES "Jake and the Never Land Pirates" so, so much. I will try get a couple things done when she watches an episode and it always makes me smile when I hear her say "Let's go!" or when she "counts" the gold deblumes with them. She also loves to dance and move NON STOP. I am pretty much exhausted at the end of the day from her dragging me around with her as she terrorizes the house.

She really is a good girl. She might be crazy and make us insane some days but she loves to snuggle at the end of the day. More often than not when we ask her not to do something she will stop. She will say "dot you" almost always when we give her something and she is always good for a laugh! The other day I was having an emotional pregnant reaction to some stupid commercial or something and when she saw that I was crying she came over and rubbed my back, just like I do for her.

Just helpin daddy and pop pop install a new sink.

She is my little buddy and I often find myself wondering what I did with all the time I had before she was here. I sure thought I was busy, but I had no idea what busy was. Reagan is the joy of our lives and we are so lucky to have her! We love you Reagan roo roo!

Winter blahs

I have heard of the winter blues before. I don't think that is my problem so much, I think I have the winter blahs. I mean really, when it is 15 degrees outside for 2 weeks straight, you can't see the sun because of the NASTY air, and you feel like a giant barfing monster who can barley stay awake for 6 hours at a time it is kinda hard to be super excited about day to day things, right?  WELL I have decided that I have a serious case of the winter blahs.

Today I went to warm up my rice bag for the gazillionth time this winter and I thought to myself, man I really love this thing. That got me to thinking of other things that make me happy so I decided to make a mental list. It got me feeling much better, so I thought I would share!

My rice bag. This thing seriously saves my feet from falling off from frost bite on a daily basis.

Lip gloss from Bath and Body. I don't leave the house without it, and if I happen to forget it I feel incomplete. If you haven't ever tried it, I highly recommend it.

Kindle Fire. My favorite friend for reading in bed. I also love all the games that we have on there to keep Reagan entertained in a pinch. There is still something about holding a real book, but I love the convenience of our kindle!

Farr's Grasshopper ice cream. I couldn't find an actual picture, but man is it good. It especially hits the spot when you feel like all food is the enemy but you are so hungry you might faint (why does pregnancy hate me so bad?).

As I thought of each thing it led me to new thoughts.
- The rice bag reminded me that each night I lay down in a warm bed in a warm house, others cannot say the same.
-The lip gloss reminded me that even though I do try to make myself look presentable I have a husband and daughter that love me even when I look less than what the world expects of us.
-The kindle reminded me of the technology that has made our lives so much easier in almost every way compared to those who lived hundreds and thousands of years ago.
- And the ice cream? Well it made me think of the women who are unable to keep themselves properly fed while they are pregnant, let alone any other time.

The winter blahs are definitely upon me, and I cannot wait to feel the sun on my face and have temperatures above 30 degrees, but I am thankful for all the things I have that make the "blahs" seem a little less gloomy!

Christmas Card 2012

We love getting Christmas cards in the mail. There is just something about opening an envelope and finding a cute picture from someone you love that is wishing you a happy season. I had every intention of sending out cards this year, and then suddenly it was December 17th and I hadn't even ordered any. Yikes! So here, yet again, is my sorry excuse for our Christmas card. Next year there will be actual cards, promise!!!!

We have been so blessed this year. We moved into our first home, our baby became a crazy toddler, we played hard and worked hard and we did it all with our family and friends!

We hope that this finds you all well and that the spirit of the season of the birth of our Savior might be in your hearts and homes!

Love,
Josh, Heather and Reagan

The Best!! Thank you!!

Hey All!! This is Josh! So this is totally unlike me, however very warranted!! (Hence the reason I don't have facebook, or "FB" as you techies put it. or twitter or anything else) This post stuff just isn't my thing!! Reagan and I wanted to take a minute and let Heather know how grateful we are for her, and let her know how wonderful she is, and tell her that we love her!! (If her next post has pictures of me bruised, this is probably why;) ) She hates praise, but deserves it publicly, from time-to-time! She is the greatest mother, and wife that anyone could ask for, and she is, for those that know her, so loving, kind, and thoughtful to anyone she associates with. She does a wonderful job keeping you all up to date with the things we have going on, turning our house into a home, and the growth of our wonderful, sweet Rea Rea! I think that I could be that stay-at-home Dad type, but when I get home from work and see all that she accomplishes while wrangling a child, I soon feel different. So Kudos to all you wonderful mommies that make it happen. Heather is the strength that keeps us on track and focused on the important things while we are tried here through our short time on earth. ( I better finish before she catches me!!) Heather, you truly are the best, and THANK YOU for all you do for our family! Reagan and I are so grateful for you, and love you very much!! Love You!!

Ps. I hear you need at least one photo per post, so here are some randoms!! (probably not the ones heather would have chosen;)
