New Blog

I'll be leaving this blog open, but not updating anymore after this post. If you want to follow me from here on out, check out my new writing blog, The Wandering Quille. I hope I'll see a few of you around there!

The Last Update

So...this is it. I'm less than two months from the final day, and basically, after I made the new list, I didn't look at it again. I have no plans to scramble to finish as many as I can before the last 50 days are up. So, in the end, my inability to complete things or see them all the way through got the best of me. But, you know what? I'm okay with that.

The goal of this blog originally was to find myself again, to overcome difficulties, and in the end, for me to come out the other side a stronger, wiser person than I would have been if I hadn't done the Day Zero project. And that? That I did, and it's better than I ever imagined.

I'm writing again, regularly. I started a schedule of writing at least 100 words every day, just to get into a habit. The more I try, the easier it gets, and the more words I can do in a sitting. My eventual goal is to have an hour aside a day to write, but I need to make a habit of just writing daily first. I've also rekindled a love of reading I had lost.

I've got a better relationship with my dad and grandparents, even though my grandma isn't getting on the phone anymore. She's too senile to remember much of the conversation, and too deaf to hear. They tell me every time I call that they appreciate hearing from me, though.

I have a house, and the frustrations that come with it. We're taking them one at a time. I remain incapable of keeping plants alive.

I have come to terms with the fact that I am not an artist in the drawing sense. Maybe I could do classes and things, but as it is, I'll stick with my writing and let my more artistically-inclined friends handle the drawing.

I'm working on my fears one at a time. I've actually managed to get myself mostly over my fear of needles, if you can believe that. I agreed to get a series of shots my doctor suggested (not required, but useful), and by the last one, it was not a problem for me. No stalling, no hesitation, just in, out, done. We'll see if I can get over the fear of flying enough to start taking trips outside of the country. I need to get myself a passport first, though.

So, basically, I'm happy. I've found the parts of my life that were missing and am working on making the puzzle that is me bigger, more solidified. If that makes sense. As far as this blog goes, I'm calling it here. End result, 55/101 (I went yard sale-ing with my mother last fall, and I've kept up with my weekly calls to my dad and grandparents). All in all, could be better, but I think I did fairly well. It's been a fun ride, so thanks for joining me on it.

The New List

If you'll take a little mosey over to the 101/1001 tab, you'll notice there have been a few MINOR changes. And by minor, I mean "what the hell happened to my list??" With 325 days left, I've cleaned up and began anew. Out of a list of 108, I have completed 51, removed 11 completely, moved 13 to long term, and added 17 to make my brand new list.

Long-term: It's not gonna get done within the next 325 days. No way, no how. It's something to come eventually, but it's just not on my plate for Day Zero anymore.

Removed: I muffed it up. I screwed myself over. Or I'm just not freaking itnerested anymore. Consider this the "whoopsie" list.

Completed: This should be clear.

So what's new?

In the Kitchen: I want to fix up, redesign and start updating Learning By Burning again. It's been neglected for so long, and really, the desgin's not the best I could have picked. To help with the updating side, I'm going to make a dent in my Pitnerest recipes by making 15 new recipes off my many food lists.

Hobbies: Along the same lines of Learning By Burning's update, I'm gonna give Girls Rolling 20s a makeover and start to update regularly again. I also want to submit a short story to a writing contest. And as an addition to an existing one, once I'm done editing my novel, I've added on that I will submit it to an editor or publisher. That one's gonna be harder than it sounds...

Around the House: This one got the biggest boost now that we actually have a house. There's a ton of stuff to do around it to fix it up, so I added all of them, from the little to the large.

For Me: My last new one, cancel my current credit card (It was bought by a bank that I don't like and has a bad reputation, so I want out), get a new one, and move banks from my large public one to my work's credit union.

The rest of them are all ones that were already there. Now all that's left is debating whether to leave it as 325 days or boost it back to 500 days since some of them are new? Only extend the time on the new ones? But I'm gonna shoot for keeping them within 325. That was my original limit, and it needs to stay that way. Otherwise, really, it's not fair. It's 101 in 1001 days, not 83 in 1001 day and 17 with some extra days because they're new.

#86, 98 Done!

Actually got productive this weekend, kinda. We had my mother, her boyfriend, and my in-laws all come to stay so Mom and Mom-in-law and I could go out on a girls day for my birthday. I ended up finishing not one but two tasks, bringing me up to 51 done. Hubby finally got out to the local goodwill with our bags of clothes and boxes of stuff we no longer wanted, completing #86) Donate clothing from both Hubby and me. The next day, at a local women's show, while looking over a bunch of delicious foods, on the other side of the demostration stage where a new show was starting, I spotted a woman selling henna tattoos. Ten dollars later, #98 was done. I love henna tattoos, but I haven't gotten one since before I was even dating Hubby. Now I've got a pretty temporary tattoo for a few days.

I'm working on my reinvented list. Hopefully in a few days I'll be able to share it. If you don't see it by Wednesday, look for it next week as Hubby and I are making a trip for see my father and grandparents for the first time in a year and a half.

Update

So, is it time for an update yet? I turned 26 today. On towards the second half of my twenties. Can you think of a better time to do some re-evaluating? Cause that's what this blog needs.

People change over time. It's been nearly two years since I started this little adventure, and since November, it's kinda fell to the back burner. The only things I've done lately were finally finishing #10 with Hubby's Christmas gift, watched a few new movies for #31 (New Police Story and Wheels on Meals), a few video games for #92, and a new flavor of ice cream for #107 (coconut cream pie ice cream? Um, yes please!)

After buying the house, we just had to put so much into making it livable, the list got put on hold as many of the remaining things require time and money, and we didn't have either of those. We barely do now, but now? My priorities are changing. A lot of the things left on my list I'm losing interest in for the moment, or ever for some of the less required ones. Maybe this week would be a good time to sit down and rework my list. Come up with 51 new things I REALLY want to do to versus having 51 things I'm just tired of looking at on my list.

It's funny though, to look back on this list and see how I've changed over two years by what I've done, what I wanted to do, what else I accomplished. And I'm happy with a lot of those changes. I've made new friends and gotten in touch with my creative side again, which, really, was what I wanted to do most of all when I started. It's why I called this blog "Finding Me Again". And I finally found the me I was missing. Even if I've basically failed at this day zero list (not completing some of the regularly scheduled items), I'm happy. I succeeded at what I meant to do. And now it's time to make some changes for the better.

Still a procrastinator though.

Checking In, #26 and #48 done

So, I'm alive. I know I haven't posted much, but not much has been happening. Hubby and I have been hard at work making the house liveable (drapes finally went up this weekend on our double doors, most of the pictures hung, etc), we got a new sofa for our game room (so we can stop sitting on the floor), and we've been basically settling. I think I can officially mark 48 (decorate the house) done now. I'm getting to a point on my day zero list where I'm not as interested in doing what remains anymore. Some of them are still holding my interest, but most of them, not so much.

I've added a few more games to my "completed" list since my last update, making 16 games done out of 25. I finished the new Super Mario for the 3DS, Kirby's Mass Attack (DS) Kirby's Return to Dreamland (Wii co-op with Hubby) and Contact (DS). I started Contact YEARS ago, quit at the last level, and didn't go back. I tried to pick up where I left off but was so lost I couldn't, so I restarted. Funny thing, I finished it almost 4 years to the day of the last time I had played it. Now it's out of the way, I've got a bunch more to move to. 9 games remain!

Hubby and I technically completed #26. I learned on Pinterest that you can buy green onions, plant them in a cup with water (no soil needed) and put them in a sunny spot, and they'll grow on their own. Sure enough, they took off! And last week, we finally took a cutting and used it in a dish. I also learned that green onions make your eyes water just as bad as regular onions. Who knew? Not this chick.

The drawing contest with A and me didn't end up working out. I'm too lazy, and the detail A was putting into hers required three days to make a picture she was happy with (and that I couldn't compare to). She's still going, but I didn't last a week :( I'm going to try and keep drawing every now and then to fill up my sketchbook, but I'm realizing that much of my drawing in high school was simply out of jealousy of all my friends who drew well. I'm a writer. That's my forte, it's what I love, and the time I could spend drawing would be better spent writing and plotting. The few days I was drawing, it felt more like a chore.

I'm majorly looking forward to March. With a lot of help from Hubby, my mom and I got tickets to see Elton John! I've been to at least three of his concerts with her, and I'm looking forward to my fourth :) We missed our chance when he came through her hometown a year ago. Now we've got perfect seats! I can't wait! And the next day, there's a craft fair right around the corner from our house, so we're planning on going to that too! I can't wait!!

I'll try and get better about updating again. I've kinda been sucked in by Pinterest and my forum and have spent less time around Blogger.

2011's "resolutions"

I just remembered that last New Year I made a list of all the ones I wanted to complete in 2011. Let's see how that ended up going...

#17 - No excuse for this one either.
#18 - I really should do this one...

Cooking
#25 - Still in progress. The perfect mac & cheese continues to elude me...
#26 - I apparently have a phobia of working with fresh herbs.
#27 - Done!

#22 - I did this for a few weeks actually, need to start doing it again.

Hobbies
#32 - I already read 50 books! I still can't believe this. I thought it'd take me much longer. I forgot how addictive reading can be.

Around the House
#51 - This one did not last past the 3 months, but I'm glad it's done.

Self-Improvement
#64 - I braved the shot!

Donation
#81 - I hope those books helped out the library :)
#87 - This was harder than expected, but it feelt good to do.
#88 - I wonder if it's been found yet...
#89 - It's nice to buy things for people :)

Anti-Procrastination
...I really need to work on these more. I added a bunch, but completed none.

So it looks like over 2011, I finished 26 tasks. Not the 30-something I needed to get, but still pretty good, I think. I'm just going to need to work extra hard in 2012! That timer's only getting shorter, after all.
