Jumping

For the longest time, Lillian practiced jumping but couldn't actually get off the ground... she has since learned (as of 3 days ago), but here is what her practice sessions used to look like... I can't easily edit this video in the program I'm using so feel free to stop it after she goes and looks in the mirror. She doesn't do anything else after that... :) It's just the first few seconds really.

Signing... again

Well, I have a whole series of videos from this "shoot" of Lillian doing signs. But unless you know the signs, you might not recognize them. Thus, it could be a bit boring... so I think I'll only post this one video and not all the others. I know I haven't put up a new post in forever, but it is hard to get a video lately. The lighting is never right and so it is usually either way to bright and washed out or so dark you can hardly see it. Annoying! So, my apologies, I will continue shooting little videos and hopefully will find something good enough to post!

Oops

Lillian thinks the word "Oops!" is hilarious!


In this first video, I didn't actually know that "Oops" was the funny part. I was assembling a shelf and every time the Alan wrench (sp?) fell out she cracked up (had been going on for 5 minutes or so before I called Matthias to tape it), but now I know it was because I said "Oops" each time (it took a few days before I figured this out) (I'm a little slow I guess). :)



Here I had figured out it was a word, but I thought it was "Ip" or Bib" since that is how Lillian pronounces "Oops!" It wasn't until the next day that I figured out that "Oops" was what was setting her off each time. (This time I had said oops originally which started the giggling (because she dropped something), but then when I had the camera I thought it was something else.



Finally, I figured out that oops was the funny word. Now, she cracks up all the time, whenever she hear someone say, "Oops!" It is really funny.

Sorry for the delinquency!

First, let me just apologize for the lack of videos! Our camera's rechargeable batteries have kicked the bucket and I the regular batteries don't seem to have enough juice for it so I've had a serious lack of battery power. But that is really no excuse I know, especially when Lillian has grandparents who want to see her and poor Amy, having to watch these videos over and over and over and over again with nothing new to see! So, I don't even know if these videos are even very cute/funny/noteworthy, but for the sake of something new, here they are!!!!


Lillian's favorite activity lately is digging in the greenhouse. She can do it for hours. Adding water to the activity makes it even better. She always comes out with a mud mustache which makes me wonder if she actually *likes* the taste of dirt. "Dirt" is a new fave vocab word of hers and it is one of the few words she speaks in German as well (Erde) (she understands many words in both languages but mostly says words in one or the other at this point). Aren't her tools cute?

Body part identification

Well, I was showing off how well Lillian identifies her various body parts, but it sort of went South at some point... :) I guess she didn't want to look *too* good and make other babies jealous or something. :) By the way, I'm sorry--I forgot that you can't videotape in portrait (or at least I can't figure out how to rotate it here anyway). So, just cock your head to one side or something. {-:

When Matthias saw Lillian identifying her body parts in English, he was envious that she knew the English words, but it turns out she knows the German too! She missed the legs (Beine) again, but got all the others! Now you can learn some German too!

Singing in front of the fridge

Lillian sits in front of her little fridge phonics toy on the fridge and sings her own song. Sometimes she sings along with the toy, but today she does her own thing.


I can't really get it on film, but this is sort of what it's like when Lillian sings along with the fridge phonics. Usually she imitates the tune and sounds a bit more closely. :)

Helping around the house (already!)

I am a strong believer in children helping out around the house, it is great for their self-esteem and little ones really enjoy it, in addition to learning responsibility and life skills, but I never would have guessed a 1-year-old would already be in on the action. :) But Lillian LOVES helping Mommy! Here are two of the things she does (she also helps pick up the playroom and put her laundry away).


Lillian puts the flatware "away" when Mommy empties the dishwasher. Sorry that it is a bit dark!



Sorry this one is a bit jiggly (it is hard to film and supervise the stirring!), but this shows another one of Lillian's faves--helping Mommy cook (or bake in this instance). We're making biscuits.

More signs

We just love the voice that sign language gives to Lillian and her ability to express her needs through signs. Most instances, of course, we could never get on film because they are spontaneous, but it is fun to be able to share a little with you.

Currently, Lillian signs eat, more, finished, please, milk, banana, and help (I think those are mostly it anyway). Here she demonstrates a few of her versions of them. Auntie Ari, eat your heart out! :)


In this clip Lillian first says that she is finished, but then says she wants more (and we get to hear her say "all gone" too!). At the table this happens a lot, but in other situations finished truly means finished... like when she signed finished while sitting in her carseat, she was finished sitting by golly! and when she stands up in her playpen, looks at me and signs "finished" she is indeed ready to get out, and when I'm changing her diaper... well you get the picture. Anyway, so she says she wants more and at the end she does her version of please (the tummy rub). So she shows finished, more, food, and please! Anything to just get more food!

Amen

I'm not sure why I continued trying to record it, when I already had it, but I guess I was afraid you'd miss it... we think it is really funny that one of Lillian's first words is "Amen" but it usually comes out like "Ahm" so that is what to listen for. Here are my favorite samplings of her saying it... Often right after she says it, we say it to try and get her to say it again, but often, she doesn't so the first one was "it." But, as a proud mommy, I'm having a hard time choosing just one to put up!
