Yay for Me Wednesday!!!

Well a dear friend of mine reminded me of well, to remember the times we get it right. Today despite being totally stressed about the many thing on my to do list I did something...uncharacteristic. Wow! Want to know what I did?

First of all, did you know I really don't like the beach? I know, I know, how could you Rachel? A native born Charlestonian who doesn't like the beach. Well yes I say. I don't love the beach. It has always been a stresser for me. When I was a teen, it was do I look good in my swimsuit? Then it was I didn't want to go by myself in my twenties. Now that I am a mom of two very active children, neither of which can swim well enough for my liking-I avoid the beach like the plague! Who cares what I look like to total strangers on the beach? I am just worried about two little ones not washing away in the ocean. I know crazy but hey, I never said I wasn't a touch crazy.

So on to my day...My nieces are in town, and I only get to see them at most once a year. They live waaaay to far away for my liking. They are just so lovely and I cherish the time I get to spend with them. Well the youngest one has been begging to go to the beach. She even was crying last night because her sister got to go on an inpromptu trip to see the beach and she didn't.

I though about it-alot. I had plans with them today. The movies, and ice cream and overall a fun day. (If you know me-you know I'm a planner) Well this morning I did something uncharacteristic. I DITCHED THE PLAN! I took FOUR children to the beach! The girls did not bring their suits, but that didn't stop them from getting soaking wet. I cringed from the beach watching them get wet, and getting sand in places sand should not be. I diligently took photos instead of imagining what a mess this was going to be in my car. I loved every minute of it!!!! i would do it again tomorrow. So this was my YAY for me Wednesday! So pat me on the back but I might do it again-planned of course. :)

A great meat deal

Hey guys my favorite meat deal is starting tomorrow at Food Lion. Whole Boneless Beef Sirlion Tip is on sale for $1.87 lb. I think last time it was about 10 lbs for each tip, so $19 bucks or so. It says right on the ad "custom cut free"

Last time I bought 2 of them for roughly $40 and got the following out of it:
11 lbs of ground sirloin ( a bit healthier than what I usually get)
2- 2lb roasts
2lbs of cubed stew meat
5 lbs of sliced sirlion steaks

**Make sure you are going in when a butcher is there so you can get this all cut. (not after you out the kids to bed) You will probably have to wait a few minutes so if you are bringing any kiddos with ya, bring them something to keep them occupied (we play I spy).

I hope you end up loving this deal as much as I have :)

P.S. I also love that the whole fryer chickens are 67c lb. YEAH for meat!!!

AWWW sweet!

So Wyatt had scouts last night and they were learning about what to do in an emergency. The den leader posed this question for the boys:

"If your mom fell down the steps and broke her leg, what would you do?"

Some of the boys said call 911, get help from a neighbor, call dad, but my sweet boy Wyatt said, "I could pray". Super sweet! I hope it isn't too lenghty of a prayer since my legs are broken :)

Taking chances

So my DH is a great man. I couldn't be happier and he knows how I work. A few years ago we got on a discussion (not the first one we've had) about baptism. He really loves me and knew that if he came on strong about his feelings on this subject I would immediatly be put on the defense (a trait I learned not so thankfully from my dad).

I was baptized when I was 13 at a Methodist church my family and I were members of growing up. I went through classes aboout what that meant to accept the Lord into your life and to follow Him. I felt at that time I was ready and I accept Him and promised to lead my life in a way that is pleasing to Him. I then was "baptized" by a method called pouring. I had the option of being immersed but most Methodist churches did not have a baptistry. The poring worked just like you would think it would. A pitcher of water was poured over my head as I bent over a large bowl.

Jared has always felt that this wasn't enough. To truly be baptized was to be immersed. The kind husband that he is over the years he has mentioned it and how he wants me to be rebaptized. His concern for what would happen to me after I was gone was touching to say the least. He knew that I would have to discover this on my own.

Many of you I've talked about this before. I have prayed about it and read my bible and still felt that my heart was in it back then why doesn't it count? I feel overall like I've led my life in a way that follows God- not to say I'm perfect we all slip up, but overall my thoughts and my actions are Godly focused. But then came Ashley W. A random conversation on a mommies night out at dinner was what really led me to this point. Her personality is one I really enjoy, sarcastic, funny and dead serious at the same time. (You'd have to know her to get that). Her comment to me was -"Do you really want to take that chance?". Over and over it talked about immersion in the bible. I knew that, I had read that. Did I want to take that chance? That question direct as it may be has been on my mind for a month.

My desision has been made. NO!!! I don't want to take that chance. I want to spend eternity with my Lord and my family. So with a happy heart, Jared will baptize me on Sunday evening after class. I'm so excited that he will be able to do it since he is the one who started this whole thing. I hope if you are reading this you'll be there with us to celebrate! We take enough chances in life, this is one I won't be taking.

A change in attitude...

How can we come about it? It seems so easy. Change your mind about whatever it is and your attitude will follow. I struggle with this daily! Our attitudes as wives and mothers affect the others around us. I should be better at it, but I continue to work on it and pray about it.
This weekend has been a trying weekend. I was sick and Abby was having a three day meltdown over her tooth pain. (I actually had to take her back to the children's dentist today) Wyatt was pushing the envelope in the way he was speaking to me. Jared had off four days and we didn't get any of the things I had on my mental list to do done.
Now I'm just frustrated and a change in attitude is necessary! I talk to my children about changing theirs, but who was there to tell me to change mine when I snapped at them for things they couldn't control. I guess noone is there to tell mommy to suck it up and get over it. Maybe that is God telling me, and that's how I know it is time to move on. SO here I go-tomorrow is a new day, a new attitude and a plan of attack. I'd say wish me luck, but I'd rather have the prayers!

Abby's teeth

So today was the day. Something told me to stay at home this morning. Maybe it was that Wyatt just wanted to chill out and I was pretty beat.I had made a commitment to go to a baby shower this morning and I should keep that. I figured that taking the kids to our mommy and me playdate would be a perfect way to wear them out so I could get some much needed laundry done afterward.

We got there and Wyatt just wasn't himself. He didn't want to play, said his neck hurt. He probably kinked it sleeping in the gameroom, a treat he gets when his behavior has been great. Abby was having a great time playing with many of her friends. We even met a new friend today, and her very cute puppy who was the hit of the playdate.

So I decided that at noon we would leave so I could get home and do the afore mentioned laundry and be there before the painter was coming over. I started to round up the children and abby came over to where I was seated, she tripped and fell into the concrete "seat". It is a seat made of concrete about 2 ft off the ground where we can sit to watch the kids while they play. she cried of course, but as I looked at her further she broke her two front teeth. One is broken kinda vertically so it is pretty sharp. The other was a more smooth break horizontally across the other tooth.

Well we rushed to the dentist, and he said she was too traumitized to do anything just yet. He said his grandson did the same thing recently, and his recommendation was to let it be for a few weeks. I trust this guy, after all he has been my dentist since I was six and my mom' since before that. We'll see a children dentist he recommended after a few weeks to see if they can at least file them down.

Strangely, I can't believe how incredibly calm I was through the whole ordeal. God works in ways we never see or expect. How thankful I am that Abby wasn't hurt worse, and even more how this complete calm came over me to be able to help that crying little toddler.

** I guess I never published this. It happened about 3 weeks ago. Go figure!

Our trip to the zoo

We spent Memorial day with our Kids for christ group, and I brought along mom, sister, niece, and her dad. I love this group! It has gotten so big. We had 50+ people there and that wasn't even all of us. The kids were on their best behavior and the weather although it looked very gloomy was BEAUTIFUL!

Wyatt and Jared's favortie is the reptile area. Of course it would be they are boys and I'm totally grossed out in every exhibit there. God does have something for everyone thats for sure. Abby has a few faves, the elephants, the sea lion, and the giraffe, but her all time fave is the bunnies. We really love the zoo and actually bought a membership so that we can enjoy it much more frequently.
