Clumsy eyes, tingle toes, lazy legs, but not broken arms. I feel my body as the way you feel your favorite jacket on a windy day: perfect fit but with a suspicious lightness. The light over my head is not helping my mind to focus on the present, where am I?
Laying on an operation table, with no possibility of movement so far, I thought my body as if it is on an eternal wake up. That moment of the day when you are just opening your eyes and trying to recognize where you are. None of my strengths are related to memory, reminiscence is something that I usually steal from others, I let them remember what I always forget. I don't know where I am. Strangely I'm not feeling danger, well, to be honest, I'm not feeling all of my body. Should I be worried by now?
Not just the light is distracting me, weird noises coming from these rare creatures surrounding the operation table, staring all at me, are making me start to feel ill-at-ease. Why I am here? None of them speak familiar words, knowing 20 different earthly languages is not being useful by now. How many time I've been here?
Anesthesia hasn't always worked on me. Going to the dentist has always been a painful activity. Maybe that's the reason I'm awake. Ok, this is part of the quest but… Why am I here? or, to be precise, how did I get here?
Crick.
Crack.
The lights went off… or the anesthesia is starting its effect on me.
A din deafened everyone in the operation room. All the creatures dressed in blue and white clothes fainted. Suddenly Julie felt strong, all her body responded to her brain. No more drowsiness.
A time window opened without her awareness. Julie was traveling on the spacecraft responsible for the most complex intergalactical thievery operation. The aim was something unclear to anyone on Earth. She was a brilliant neuroscientific but nothing extraordinary for anyone outside this planet. At least it was what they thought about her, they… meaning the Intergalactical Corporation of Human Matters. Her disappearance was linked to her love for hiking. Her family and friends were used to not having news from her for days. Being gone for three days was unusual.
She went missing on the first day of the second solar year of the Neptunian Era. This was an unpeaceful time to be alive. Planets, stars, galaxies, and every celestial body, in aims of having equilibrium with the rest of the Universe supported many sorts of atrocities. Her kidnapping was one of them.
Awake and strong, Julie realized where she was. Luckily nothing on her body was altered, nor operated or intervened. With no time to lose, she dressed up and went out to find the exit of that piece of reality she thought was just one more dream caused by a heavy meal dinner.
As weird as it could sound, Julie found herself knowing where to go, what to do and how to drive that type of space machinery. A desert spaceship made the work easier. Escaping was nothing she questioned, as she had some things clear on her mind besides feeling clumsy before.
She went off with no clear direction asking herself… Where is home?
