SESSION OVERVIEW
Tuesday morning began with precautions.
The group knew General Haziz Simbel was coming to take them somewhere that officially did not exist, approximately forty-five kilometers west of Alexandria. Rana quietly informed El Silencio where they were going and instructed him to begin looking for them if they failed to return. David extended his Rite of Centered Mind across the group. Michael and David prepared another magical contingency. Then five reinforced SUVs arrived beneath High House, and General Simbel personally escorted them into the desert.
What awaited them was far larger than anyone anticipated.
Hidden beneath the abandoned industrial landscape of Borg El Arab was an enormous Egyptian military installation, protected by a field capable of severing access to the ley lines themselves. Inside, the heroes discovered something even more consequential: another massive ancient Seal, similar to the one they had previously encountered through the Master. Beneath it lay a repository the Egyptian military had only begun to understand, containing preserved books and scrolls from the Library of Alexandria alongside artifacts, weapons, statues, devices, sarcophagi, and objects from civilizations extending far beyond Egypt.
For the first time since the Storm, the heroes walked through a place filled with ancient magic while almost entirely deprived of their own.
They met Colonel Kareem Simbel, General Simbel’s son and the commander responsible for securing the site. They toured the repository with magical engineer Viara Niarkos, encountered another of the dangerous planar mirrors, learned of five intruders trapped during a security breach hours before the Storm, and discovered that the military’s collection was not merely archaeological. Some of the objects had awakened.
But the greatest danger of the day was not waiting beneath the Seal. It was waiting at lunch.
A private conversation about magical development gradually exposed something deeply personal within the Simbel family. When General Simbel realized that Rana's powers might conceivably reach farther into the past than he had imagined, professional curiosity collapsed into desperate hope. He fell to his knees before her and offered his life to Ra if she could bring back the people he had lost.
Kareem saw his father kneeling and something inside the Colonel broke. His fingers transformed into blades striking out at his own father. Then the room exploded with magic.
THE STORY SO FAR
The previous day had ended with Aswan transformed.
The awakening of the temple of Khnum and Satet on Elephantine Island had collided with an elemental manifestation beneath the museum, destroying the museum and unleashing catastrophic flooding. The heroes spent hours rescuing civilians, earning the spontaneous public name the Angels of Aswan.
Beneath the awakened temple, they also discovered an ancient granite step pyramid. The Nile itself began changing beyond Elephantine, while dozens of recovered museum objects showed signs of awakening.
Yet Tuesday's appointment had been scheduled before any of that occurred.
General Haziz Simbel had promised the group access to a secret military installation containing objects believed to have survived the Library of Alexandria. Rana had subsequently received divine guidance from Ra indicating that something connected to her purpose awaited her there.
Tariq had another reason for going. Somewhere among the ancient history of Egypt, he hoped to find something capable of legitimizing his claim to the Mansour legacy. Neither knew exactly what they were looking for. They were about to enter a facility containing things even the Egyptian government could not identify.
MAJOR EVENTS & KEY MOMENTS
1. Twenty-Four Hours
Before General Simbel arrived, Rana established mental contact with El Silencio.
Marcus Blackstone was expected to make contact with him later that day regarding the legal arrangements previously discussed, and Rana designated Blackstone as El Silencio's first protection assignment.
She also gave El Silencio the exact location of the military installation the group was about to visit. The instruction was simple:
If they did not return or make contact within twenty-four hours, something had probably gone wrong. Start looking there. It was not exactly an expression of confidence in the day's itinerary. It was, however, sensible.
2. The Centered Mind
David repeated one of the group's increasingly important morning precautions. He spent additional effort extending his Rite of Centered Mind across the entire group, reinforcing their mental defenses before entering the military installation.
Michael also worked with David to place a strengthened Transform effect into his rod. David pushed the effect to Transform 7 before resting off the resulting exhaustion. The group did not know what awaited them at Simbel's facility. They did know that entering a secret military base filled with ancient artifacts was not the day to neglect preparation.
3. Five Cars
General Simbel arrived with an impressive security convoy.
Five nearly identical reinforced luxury SUVs entered the protected High House garage. Each carried security personnel, while additional vehicles served as decoys and protective escorts. Some members of Simbel's security detail possessed limited magical abilities, though nothing approaching the versatility of the heroes.
The party carefully inspected the vehicles before departure.
General Simbel appeared in full uniform, decorations prominently displayed, looking far more like the famous military figure known to the Egyptian public than the relaxed grandfather they had recently visited at home. Once inside the vehicle, however, that formality disappeared.
4. The General and His Son
During the drive, Tariq asked General Simbel when he had last seen his son. About a week.
The General spoke proudly of Colonel Kareem Simbel, describing him as an exceptional officer and, in his father's estimation, perhaps even better than himself. But he also warned the group that their visit placed Kareem in an uncomfortable professional position.
As commander of the facility, Kareem was responsible for its security. His father was now arriving as his superior officer and bringing five extraordinarily powerful civilians into one of Egypt's most sensitive installations. Kareem wanted to meet them. That did not mean he wanted them inside his base.
5. Rana Explains Her Purpose
Rana decided not to conceal why she had come. After leaving the General's home, she had reached out to Ra for guidance. The answer had pointed toward this military installation and the Alexandrian relics stored within it. She believed something there was connected to her divine purpose. More importantly, she warned the General that she might need to take it with her.
General Simbel's response was immediate. For Rana, he would consider it. But the matter would need to be discussed privately with Kareem.
6. Tariq Has a Claim of His Own
Tariq then admitted that he also hoped to find something in the repository. His objective was different. He wanted an artifact, record, or other object capable of helping legitimize his claim within the Mansour lineage.
General Simbel understood the implication immediately. He also revealed an important limitation: Kareem knew that he was an heir, but had not yet been told the full meaning or depth of that inheritance.
The General was therefore walking into a meeting involving two secrets at once. One belonged to Egypt. The other belonged to his son.
7. Michael Adeyemi
Michael decided that another secret needed to end before they reached the base. He told General Simbel that the appearance the General knew was a disguise. Then he dropped it.
For the first time, Simbel saw Michael Adeyemi's true appearance.
The General was shocked, then immediately grateful that Michael had revealed himself before arrival. Security preparations had been based on the identities and appearances the military expected. Michael entering the installation under an identity they did not recognize could have produced a very different reception.
The convoy diverted long enough for Simbel to make the necessary calls and update the facility's security arrangements. Michael's honesty cost them time. It may also have prevented a shooting.
8. Borg El Arab
The convoy eventually entered the Borg El Arab industrial zone. At first the landscape looked like miles of abandoned factories, smokestacks, industrial buildings, quarries, and aging infrastructure. Then the heroes began noticing the details.
Roads disappeared behind apparently sealed walls. Structures that looked abandoned showed signs of controlled use. Military activity was disguised as industrial redevelopment. The secret installation was not a single bunker.
It occupied an enormous portion of the industrial zone, with the main complex spanning roughly ten miles by ten miles and additional facilities extending into the old Amrea cement quarry. The abandoned industrial landscape was camouflage.
9. The Base Behind the Wall
A section of wall hydraulically opened and swallowed the convoy. Inside, the illusion disappeared. The military had adapted the abandoned industrial infrastructure into a functioning covert base. Soldiers wore deliberately generic uniforms that could pass for industrial work clothing from a distance. Weapons manufacturing was visible within the complex. Buildings that appeared dead from outside concealed active facilities.
General Simbel had not brought them to a hidden room. He had brought them to a hidden city.
10. Everything Goes Quiet
Then the heroes crossed an invisible boundary. Their powers vanished.
Michael immediately lost access to his supernatural abilities. Rana's magical items stopped responding normally. The others experienced the same sudden distance from the power they had grown accustomed to carrying.
Their artifacts were not completely dead. They still contained whatever magical charge they possessed when they crossed the boundary. But without access to the ley lines, using that charge would deplete it. Once drained, the artifacts would begin reaching toward other nearby magical objects for energy. The group had seen that behavior before. They understood how dangerous it could become.
11. Fifty Percent
Rana's examination suggested that the party's artifacts were effectively operating on a limited reserve. The simplest comparison was a battery. They could still use an artifact in an emergency, but doing so would consume a finite charge that could not replenish itself while inside the suppression field. Continued use might cause the objects to begin feeding on one another.
The group therefore adopted an immediate rule: Do not use the artifacts unless someone's life depends on it.
For people who routinely solved problems by activating ancient magic, this represented an uncomfortable change in operating procedure.
12. The Master Goes Silent
Then they noticed something considerably more important. The connection to the Master's shared Hero Point pool was gone. Whatever was suppressing access to the ley lines had also severed that connection.
Rana could still sense Ra. Her divine connection had not disappeared, and she believed Ra could still act through her if he chose. But the normal flow of magical power was absent.
The group immediately began theorizing about what this meant.
Rana proposed that powerful entities might be able to throttle ley-line access, increasing or reducing the amount of magic available to particular individuals or locations. The group compared the suppression to the opposite phenomenon they had experienced at Abydos, where ley-line power had been dramatically amplified.
It was a compelling theory. It was not yet proven.
13. The Holy of Holies
After several more miles inside the suppression zone, the convoy reached one of the enormous former industrial buildings. The vehicles drove inside, descended into a secured lower level, and underwent another inspection before anyone was permitted to exit.
The group was then escorted through a long sequence of secured corridors, research areas, sealed doors, lead-lined barriers, laboratories, and defensive checkpoints. Everything suggested that they were approaching the most sensitive portion of the facility. Then they entered an enormous central chamber. And stopped.
14. Another Seal
The markings resembled the enormous ancient Seal they had encountered before through their experiences with the Master. It was not the same Seal. But it was unmistakably related. The Egyptian military had opened one.
15. Colonel Kareem Simbel
Colonel Kareem Simbel arrived while the heroes were still staring at the Seal.He was young, strikingly charismatic, disciplined, and immediately possessed of the sort of presence the group normally expected themselves to dominate.
More importantly, he was saturated with magical power. Unlike the visitors, Kareem remained fully empowered inside the suppression field. Whatever was shutting the heroes down did not apply to him.
He welcomed them professionally, confirmed that President Sharif had verified their loyalties, and made clear that while he respected who they were, they were entering his command.The group also quickly realized something else. Maintaining the suppression appeared to require effort from Kareem.
16. Three Months Before the Storm
Tariq asked the obvious question. Had Kareem used his abilities to bypass the Seal? No.
The military had begun physically cutting around the enormous stone approximately three months before the Alexandrian Storm.
Using the heavy industrial infrastructure already available at the site, engineers eventually removed the stone through conventional means. Then Kareem revealed another date.
A security breach occurred approximately twelve hours before the Storm. The timing was impossible to ignore.
17. Into the Repository
Kareem invited them below. Large industrial drones carried the heroes through the opening while Kareem descended under his own power, apparently using some form of air or gravitational manipulation. The chamber beneath was staggering in scale.
It was larger than a conventional stadium, extending into darkness beyond the reach of the installed lighting and everywhere were objects.
Books, Scrolls, Statues, Carvings, Sarcophagi, Weapons, Devices, Art.
Entire sections of preserved material remained sealed in amber. The military had been studying the site for months and still had not cataloged most of it.
18. The Library and Something More
Kareem explained what they knew. Not everything in the repository came from the Library of Alexandria.But enough surviving records and identifiable materials had been found to establish that at least part of the Library's collection had been stored there.
The rest was harder to explain. Some objects appeared older than the Library. Others originated far beyond Egypt. Still others came from cultures or periods the investigators could not yet confidently identify. The repository was not merely a hidden Library of Alexandria archive. It was something broader, a collection spanning civilizations.
19. Five People in the Circle
Then Kareem illuminated a large ritual circle carved into the floor.
Inside it were five figures.They appeared translucent, distorted, and frozen within pillars of energy, their expressions caught in shapes suggesting terror or agony. These were the intruders from the pre-Storm security breach.
The military believed one of them had read something or interacted with an object inside the chamber. Whatever they did activated the circle. The five appeared to have trapped themselves.
Their identities were classified, and even the military's conclusions were incomplete. Kareem estimated that they were roughly eighty percent confident in some of their identifications.
The figures also changed when magic was active. No one knew exactly what had happened to them.
20. Don't Touch Them
The military had experimented cautiously with the trapped figures. Drones could approach the phenomenon, although their operation could be disrupted.
At least one person had attempted direct physical contact. That person disappeared.
The group collectively arrived at a highly sophisticated archaeological protocol: No touchy.
Sometimes centuries of scholarship can be distilled efficiently.
21. This Is Not a Magic Shopping Trip
Kareem understood that Rana was looking for something and that Tariq had his own interest in the collection.
He was willing to cooperate. He was not willing to open the repository and let five Storm-touched visitors fill their pockets. Anything removed would need to be documented. The military needed to understand what had left the site and why.
Kareem also acknowledged the larger problem. Some artifacts had awakened since the Storm. He knew that particular objects could react to particular people, but until this visit, the military had deliberately avoided bringing such people into the repository.
The heroes were a security breach and an experiment.
22. Who Owns an Awakened Artifact?
The discussion quickly became philosophical.
Rana explained that some objects appeared tied to specific bloodlines. Others represented religious callings or divine purposes. The group had encountered people traveling enormous distances because an artifact or sacred location was calling them.
Kareem's concern was equally legitimate. What if something buried in the repository could prevent a nuclear attack? What if another object could cause one? Who decides whose hands are the correct hands? Rana admitted she did not yet have that answer but she hoped the things beneath the Seal might help them find one.
23. David Explains Magical Starvation
Kareem mentioned another problem. Artifacts in the repository sometimes reacted to one another. David immediately recognized the pattern.
He explained what the group had learned about awakened magical objects and ley lines. Once awakened, artifacts could form connections to the world's magical currents. When deprived of that energy, they might begin feeding from other nearby magical objects.
The consequences could include decay, mutation, fusion, or even alteration of an artifact's relationship with its intended bloodline.
Kareem recognized the description. The group had just provided the military with a theoretical framework for phenomena its researchers were already observing. For the first time, cooperation between the heroes and Kareem's engineers became more than diplomatic courtesy. They actually needed one another.
24. Mirrors
Before leaving, Kareem issued one particularly ominous warning, do not look into reflective surfaces.
The repository contained at least one large floor-to-ceiling mirror resembling the mirrors the heroes had encountered elsewhere and people had been lost to it.
The military kept the repository deliberately dark in part to prevent accidental reflections.
When Viara Niarkos later guided the group past the object, David told her that the group had encountered similar mirrors before.Their experiences aligned.
Both sides knew there was a space accessible inside or beyond the mirror, something Viara called the waiting chamber. Both suspected other mirrors could connect to that chamber.
25. Planar Mirrors
Viara's theory went further, she believed the mirrors might connect to other places of existence.
Tariq immediately recognized the implication. Planes. The group had already encountered evidence of elemental and astral realms.
But Viara did not believe this particular mirror led anywhere so familiar.She had seen creatures enter the waiting chamber. She had also seen them leave it through destinations other than the mirror in front of her.That suggested the mirrors might form a larger network rather than simple matched pairs.
The party had previously considered the mirrors dangerous. Now they had reason to believe they might be doors in an interplanar transit system.
26. Viara Niarkos
Kareem assigned Viara Niarkos, one of the facility's magical engineers, to guide the group through the documented portions of the repository.
Viara was not conventional military personnel. Her background included study in London, France, and Egypt, along with multiple technical apprenticeships. Her original work involved methods for excavating and moving massive stone structures without destroying surrounding archaeological material.
She had originally been sponsored by the Rockefellers before becoming involved with the Egyptian project. After the Storm, she developed supernatural abilities particularly suited to her work. Viara could sense certain magical dangers and rapidly become fluent in unfamiliar systems once she began understanding them.
In a repository filled with unidentified ancient objects, this made her unusually valuable.
27. The Catalog of the Bazaar
Viara's tour demonstrated just how little the military understood.
She showed the group a magically productive loom, preserved collections of ancient texts, unidentified artifacts, sarcophagi, weapons, statues, and equipment whose functions remained unknown. Then came what amounted to the repository's cabinet of complete mysteries.
Two objects appeared to be made from substances that did not correspond to anything the researchers recognized as terrestrial material, though both had clearly been worked or shaped.
A massive mask weighed roughly seventy pounds despite dimensions that made such weight difficult to explain.
Another object resembled a strange spiral or game board, constructed from an unidentified crystal-like material. Something resembling a thin red thread appeared to move within it.
The engineers had theories. They did not have answers.
28. Three Quarters Unknown
The scale of the task became increasingly apparent. Only about one quarter of the repository had been meaningfully cataloged. Even among those objects, researchers had successfully established the age of only roughly thirty percent. The remaining three quarters stretched into darkness.
It was not organized like a modern archive. Whatever ancient people had placed these objects there had not arranged them for twenty-first-century archaeologists. The heroes were standing inside one of the greatest historical discoveries imaginable. Most of it remained unopened.
29. Lunch With the Simbels
After roughly two hours underground, the group returned to the surface and traveled to Kareem's command residence. From outside, the building resembled an unimpressive industrial trailer designed to disappear into the surrounding complex.
Below ground was a far more comfortable residence. A private lunch had been prepared.
General Simbel and Kareem sat with the heroes, the staff withdrew, and the formal military tour finally became a conversation between people. It was precisely what General Simbel had wanted.
30. Father Watching Son
Tariq noticed something beneath the conversation. General Simbel kept watching Kareem. Not as a commanding officer. As a father.
The General had spent relatively little time around Storm-touched people living openly with their powers. Kareem had been forced to develop his abilities largely within the isolation and hierarchy of military command.
General Simbel had questions about his own son that Kareem apparently had never been comfortable answering. The lunch gave him an opportunity to hear those answers indirectly.
31. Speaking as a Man
Kareem eventually removed some of the visible symbols of his military office. He wanted to speak not as Colonel Simbel, but simply as a man with powers. He asked the group how they had developed their abilities.
Why were they so much more capable than most of the Storm-touched people he had encountered? Had they understood their powers immediately? Could they temporarily push beyond their normal limits?
For perhaps the first time since taking command of the facility, Kareem was admitting something he could not safely admit to subordinates: There were things about his own abilities that he did not understand.
32. Practice, Blood and Effort
The heroes gave him several answers. Tariq described ritual, practice, and deliberate development. Rana suggested that certain ancient bloodlines might naturally possess a stronger initial connection to their abilities. David explained extra effort, the ability to push supernatural capabilities beyond their normal limits for short periods at a physical cost. Kareem listened closely. So did his father.
And that was when the conversation changed.
33. The Catacombs
Tariq asked Kareem directly about the Storm-touched operatives the military had deployed into the Catacombs. Kareem's objectives had been practical:
relic recovery and training.
Ancient objects throughout Egypt were awakening. Kareem needed personnel capable of retrieving them, and he had hoped field experience would improve the abilities of his Storm-touched operatives. The report from the Catacombs had told him that there had been no conflict with the heroes. That pleased him.
Tariq emphasized that he wanted to avoid future conflicts of interest. Both sides appeared to have overlapping goals when it came to protecting dangerous relics. Kareem agreed that coordination should now be possible.
34. Rana Draws a Line
Rana had one additional request. The military's operatives had previously used Arbiter Network branding. She wanted that stopped.
Whatever the tactical reason for doing so, Kareem's people were not representatives of the Arbiter Network and should not use its identity or equipment markings. Kareem agreed immediately. It was a small exchange compared with ancient Seals and magical repositories.
For Rana's emerging organization, it was an important boundary.
35. How Far Back?
General Simbel had been listening to the group's discussion of magical limits. Then he focused on Rana.He knew she could look backward through time. How far?
Could she go farther? Could concentrated effort extend the reach? Could other people help her? Could Kareem help? At first, the questions sounded technical. Then they stopped sounding technical.
36. A Father's Hope
The General moved closer to Rana. His questions became increasingly urgent.
If extraordinary effort could temporarily increase a person's magical capabilities, then perhaps Rana could push her own ability farther into the past. Perhaps far enough to see something he desperately wanted to see. Perhaps far enough to reach people he had lost.
The military commander disappeared. What remained was an old man confronting the possibility that the impossible might not be impossible anymore.
37. “I Will Give My Life to Ra”
General Simbel took Rana's hand. Then he fell to his knees. He offered his life to Ra.
All he wanted was for Rana to bring them back. Exactly whom the General meant was not established before events overtook the conversation. But his desperation was unmistakable.
So was Kareem's reaction.
38. Kareem Breaks
Colonel Kareem Simbel stared at his father kneeling before Rana. His expression collapsed into anger. He demanded to know what Rana had done to him.
Then Kareem moved. His fingers elongated into enormous supernatural blades.
Before anyone could stop him, they tore through General Haziz Simbel.
The General began bleeding from multiple wounds. Tariq moved to tackle Kareem. He never got the chance.
39. The Explosion
Magical power erupted from Colonel Simbel. The blast tore across the dining room, throwing the heroes outward from the table. A meeting that had begun with a gentleman's agreement, a military tour, and an extraordinary exchange of trust had become a supernatural attack in the middle of one of Egypt's most secure installations.
Worse, the party was still inside Kareem's suppression zone. Their normal powers remained inaccessible. Their artifacts possessed only limited stored magical energy. The man attacking them was the person maintaining the field. And General Simbel was bleeding on the floor.
Session 34 ended there.
CHARACTER SPOTLIGHTS
Rana Al-Masri
Rana entered the military installation following direct guidance from Ra, believing something connected to her purpose awaited among the Alexandrian relics.
She also demonstrated increasing responsibility outside her divine role. She established El Silencio's protection assignment, created a contingency in case the party disappeared, defended the identity of the Arbiter Network, and approached Kareem's collection as something requiring stewardship rather than acquisition.
But the session's final moments placed her in an entirely different position.
General Simbel's understanding of her temporal abilities transformed hope into desperation. His offer of his life to Ra and plea to “bring them back” immediately made Rana the focus of Kareem's rage. Whether Kareem misunderstood his father's reaction or was responding to something deeper remains unresolved.
Tariq Mansour
Tariq approached the visit as both diplomat and future claimant.
He openly acknowledged that he hoped the repository might contain something capable of legitimizing his Mansour inheritance, while carefully navigating what General Simbel had and had not revealed to Kareem.
His social awareness proved equally important at lunch. Tariq recognized the unspoken communication between father and son, noticed the General's attempts to understand Kareem's powers, and helped create the environment in which Kareem finally spoke openly.
The result was more openness than anyone intended.
David Hassan
David provided perhaps the most immediately useful exchange of knowledge between the heroes and the Egyptian military.
His explanation of magical starvation, ley-line dependence, and artifact-to-artifact feeding gave Kareem's researchers a framework for phenomena they had already observed but did not understand.
David also contributed firsthand knowledge about the mirrors and their waiting chamber, turning Viara's independent research into corroborated evidence.
The Arcane Knight walked into one of the world's greatest magical research facilities and, within hours, had given its researchers new homework.
Yusuf Khalid
Yusuf entered the facility without access to many of the supernatural senses upon which the group increasingly relies, forcing him back toward observation, assessment, and ordinary judgment.
His interest in the limits placed on artifact removal also highlighted an issue likely to become increasingly important: the difference between discovering an artifact's intended bearer and simply declaring ownership of it.
With Rana and Tariq both expecting potentially significant discoveries, that question is no longer theoretical.
Michael Adeyemi
Michael made one of the session's most consequential trust decisions before the group ever reached the base.
He revealed his true identity and appearance to General Simbel rather than allow military security to discover the deception at the facility.
Kareem remained suspicious of him, particularly because Michael is a journalist and had entered the General's confidence under another appearance. Yet Michael's earlier history protecting relics provided enough reassurance to prevent that suspicion from becoming outright hostility.
He also helped push the discussion toward the larger question surrounding the repository:
Ancient objects may belong to Egypt physically while still being connected to people and histories scattered across the world.
GM NOTES & WORLD NARRATIVE
Session 34 substantially expands what is known about the ancient world's efforts to preserve knowledge and magical material.
The repository beneath Borg El Arab contains confirmed material from the Library of Alexandria, but the collection is explicitly broader than the Library itself. Objects appear to originate from different civilizations, different periods, and in some cases cultures the modern researchers have not yet identified.
The presence of another Seal is potentially even more significant. It resembles the Seal previously encountered by the heroes, but the relationship between the two structures remains unknown. The military opened this Seal physically approximately three months before the Storm. A security breach then occurred approximately twelve hours before the Storm.
Those dates are established. A causal relationship is not.
Kareem's suppression ability introduces another major development. Inside its area of effect, the heroes lose ordinary access to ley-line-powered abilities and even their connection to the Master's shared Hero Point pool. The group's theory that Kareem is directly controlling or “throttling” ley-line access is plausible but remains a character theory, not confirmed cosmology.
Finally, the repository establishes that magical awakening is not limited to people, temples, or previously active artifacts. Objects inside a controlled archaeological collection have awakened since the Storm even without their intended bearers present.
That makes the remaining three quarters of the repository a spectacularly large unknown.
LOOT, CLUES, & REVEALS
Items Acquired: None during the session. Kareem has not yet authorized removal of artifacts, and the party's search for Rana's divinely indicated object and Tariq's Mansour-related inheritance has not actually begun.
Clues Found: The military repository contains confirmed material from the Library of Alexandria but is significantly broader than that collection. Another ancient Seal exists beneath Borg El Arab. The Seal was physically opened approximately three months before the Storm. Five intruders breached the repository approximately twelve hours before the Storm and became trapped within an ancient ritual circle. Some repository artifacts have awakened since the Storm. Magical objects retain finite stored power inside Kareem's suppression field. The planar mirrors appear to connect through a “waiting chamber” and may provide access to multiple destinations or planes.
Reveals and Twists: Colonel Kareem Simbel possesses enormous magical power and can maintain an area in which the heroes lose access to normal magical energy. General Simbel has not told Kareem the full truth concerning his inheritance. The General is carrying profound grief connected to unidentified people he wishes Rana could somehow “bring back.” Kareem's reaction to his father's plea was immediate and violent, culminating in his supernatural blades striking General Simbel and a magical explosion ending the session.

- General Simbel's Fate: Kareem's blades tore through his father immediately before the magical explosion. His condition is unknown.
- Kareem's Attack: Why Kareem reacted so violently to his father's plea remains unresolved. He accused Rana of changing General Simbel.
- “Bring Them Back”: General Simbel desperately wants Rana to reach people he has lost. Their identities and what exactly he believes Rana could accomplish remain unknown.
- Kareem's Suppression Field: The Colonel can deny the heroes ordinary access to magical power across an enormous area while apparently remaining empowered himself.
- The Master's Connection: The suppression field also disconnects the party from the Master's shared Hero Point pool, potentially providing a significant clue about the mechanics of the Master's connection to them.
- The Second Seal: Another Seal exists beneath Borg El Arab and strongly resembles the structure previously encountered through the Master.

OUT-OF-CHARACTER HIGHLIGHTS
The discovery that the military had physically cut around an ancient magical Seal produced the appropriate response to several thousand years of mystical protection: apparently, enough industrial equipment remains a valid counterspell.
The group also developed the elegant technical term “no touchy” after learning that someone who physically contacted the trapped intruders disappeared.
And despite entering one of the most secretive military facilities on Earth, the table still found time to remember the group's long-destroyed vehicle and suggest that its abandoned wreckage had become a tourist attraction.
Some legends are built deliberately. Others simply never get towed.

And somewhere beneath their feet lies another ancient Seal, five trapped intruders, the surviving knowledge of Alexandria, and something Ra specifically sent Rana there to find.
The heroes came to Borg El Arab looking for the past.
The Simbel family may not survive long enough to show it to them.
