Valentine's Day 2015
(And I must say, it is a bit ironic that it is Denise that is away from me this year and not the other way around. It seems that I usually have out-of-town meetings most years on Valentine's Day. But this year I don't.)

Water woes...
He came over after dinner, assessed the problem, we went to the hardware store, then came back and got it all fixed up. Just when we were ready to try plugging the pump in, the power went out. Its been out for an hour now... and its time for bed. I guess we won't know if it works till morning.
I'm grateful that we do have power sometimes, and very grateful for kind and helpful neighbors.
I'm praying hat this will be the end of our water woes for a while...

Hymn Translation Workshop in Seram
Thankful for a good first three days of the Hymn Translation Workshop! And my wonderful host family pictured here! I trust that Matt Connor and friends will finish leading the workshop well over the next two days! It was fun watching the participants figuring out how to translate the hymns into their own languages! There are now 5 language groups that have more hymns in their own language that they can sing! Please be praying for the impact of these songs on the people in these five language communities from Seram Island.

Happy 69th Birthday Indonesia!
Today Indonesia tuned 69 years old! We celebrated by going to downtown Portland and searching out the Indonesian food cart we had heard supposedly was there. Our first attempt was a food cart named Batavia which is famous for their Beef Rendang. They were closed for the day - probably off celebrating their Independence Day on their own. So we headed up to 9th and Alder to the food cart named "Satay Indonesia." You can probably guess that they are famous for - Indonesian satay! The owner was a super nice guy from Sumatra in western Indonesia. We chatted a bit in Indonesian, and then he offered to make us several to-go boxes with a mix of different Indonesian foods - all of which sounded very delicious. It didn't take long for him to finish preparing everything, and he even gave us some free krupuk, and emping! We went to a park a couple blocks down and dove into the food. It was all very delicious, but not 100% Indonesian. He used local Portland organic meats and vegetables, so things did taste a bit different, especially some of the vegetables he swapped out for local ones, but it was a delicious fusion of local fresh organic Oregon ingredients, cooked with Indonesian spices. It was all very delicious, but I would have so say that the best thing was the satay - BBQ meat on a skewer with peanut sauce for dipping. The chicken, beef and port satay were all deliciously marinated and cooked to perfection. Wow! Great fun! And I have very happy taste buds. My only regret is that I didn't try this place out sooner.

Where there's smoke, there's fire.
Yesterday our kids and the Bowen kids from across the street gathered all the wood, pine needles, and pine cones they could find in our neighborhood, and put it in the fire pit behind our house. We had a very big fire and some yummy smores! And then some neighbor saw the smoke and called the fire department. The firemen who came from TVFR were super nice and said we had done nothing wrong. They just had to check out the cause of the smoke. We offered them smores... they declined. We asked if the kids could check out their truck. They accepted! We spent the next half hour learning about fire men and fire trucks. Lots of fun! On the walk back to the house, Ben said: "That was fun! We're going to remember that one for a long time!" Fun memories in Oregon!
