Pray for Jace

On my sidebar is a link "Pray for Jace" this link goes to a blog that Amy Leatham is keeping for her son Jace who has been diagnosed with Leukemia. You can also click here: http://ironmanjace.blogspot.com/
If you have a kleenex you can read this blog and keep up on Jace's progress. It breaks my heart that this little guy has to suffer so much!

We truly don't know what tomorrow will bring. I've re-read the poem that I posted below on September 11, 2009, "If I Knew" and this situation and what the Leathams are going through makes we want to take advantage of each and every day with those around me.

Keep Jace and his family in your prayers!

That September Day...

I will never forget where I was and what I was doing on September 11, 2001. I don't think I will ever forget how I felt that day and how thankful my loved ones were safe and how bad I felt for those who lost loved ones. Eight years later I still start to cry thinking of all of those who died that day and also all of those who have died since that day fighting for our freedom, and the families that they have left behind. Where were you that September Day?

If I Knew
If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
And pray the Lord, your soul to keep.
If I knew it would be the last time
That I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
And call you back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
So I could play them back day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
To stop and say "I love you,"
Instead of assuming you would know I do.
If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
So I can let just this one slip away.
For surely there's always tomorrow
To make up for an oversight,
And we always get a second chance
To make everything just right.
There will always be another day
To say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
To say our "Anything I can do?"
But just in case I might be wrong,
And today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
And I hope we never forget.
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
Young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
You get to hold your loved one tight.
So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
Why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
You'll surely regret the day,
That you didn't take that extra time
For a smile, a hug, or a kiss
And you were too busy to grant someone,
What turned out to be their one last wish.
So hold your loved ones close today,
And whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
And that you'll always hold them dear
Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
You'll have no regrets about today.

Fractured Growth Plate

Last week we found out that Jayce has fractured the growth plate in his left foot. Funny thing is we don't even know when it happened. He's had a few crashes on his bicycle this summer, well enough that I teased him I was getting him a set of training wheels, and then he twisted his left foot wrong when he was riding dirt bikes with a friend, but nothing that lasted longer than him limping for a day or two.

Last week he was helping me watch some friend's children and giving bike rides, playing tag with them, keep away, hide and seek and basically on the run helping me out. When we got home that night and he took his shoe off he screamed in pain. Todd and I thought maybe he had a charlie horse or a ketch in his foot and told him to stretch it, which brought about more screams. We gave him Advil and tried an ice pack but after about a half hour of him in pain we decided to take him to the emergency room. They did blood work and x-rays but couldn't find anything. The doctor at the emergency room got a hold of an orthopedic surgeon and they thought it was possibly fluid. Dr. Larson told Dr. Packer to put it in a plaster splint and give him crutches and said he would see him in the morning.

After going to an appointment at Dr. Larson's office we found out that Jayce had fractured his growth plate. Apparently the growth plate is not solid bone so the fracture did not show up on the x-rays.

So, for at least the next three weeks Jayce will be wearing a walking cast and using crutches. So far he is doing pretty good! As long as it heals properly, he shouldn't have any problem with it down the road.

Cheering for the Bobcats!

Last week Harleigh participated in a cheerleading clinic held by the Madison High School Cheerleaders. They practiced Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and then performed at half time at the Madison/Hillcrest football game. This was the first football game of the season and since the high school was resodding their football field the game was held at the BYU-Idaho stadium. They really publicized to "fill the stands" which was partly why they had the girls perform at half time, to bring out their supporters, lots of parents and grandparents!! Fill the stands they did, it was so crowded.
Todd, a South Fremont graduate, was a good Dad to come and support her but when she was finished so was he, he made a mad dash out of the stadium that was filled to the brim. Sadly, all the cheerleading didn't help Madison to win the game, they lost pretty bad. Harleigh had fun so it was worth the crowd to watch her perform. Her brothers even told her she did a good job. Their compliments are harder to earn so she was pretty happy!
