Chaddy's Day
Posting a month late, but better documented than not.
His big #3 birthday went something like this...
As the big kids were getting ready to leave for school he got to open the first of his birthday gifts. Daddy gave it to him. It was a Thomas conductor hat! he was so excited and so grateful. He immediately put it on his cute little head (and never took it off for the rest of the day).
As I got dressed chad excitedly asked, "is my birthday starting yet?!?"
Then we made our beds. When we finished making his bed he said, "oh, now my bed looks so nice and fancy". Then as we made Derek's bed for him Chad said, "now his looks nice and fancy too!" cute, cute, cute.
Next, I took him to McDonald's for breakfast. I showed him everything on the menu and told him he could have whatever he wanted. After examining all the choices...and trying to catch a fly that was in there, he settled on oatmeal. Really? yes really? We paid $3 for a bowl of oatmeal. He happily played on the toys until it was time to meet his friend Connor for a train ride.
We planned on taking the Frontrunner train to Ogden, but missed it, so we rode the trax around Salt Lake instead. He probably had even more fun doing that though since we got on and off at various locations, making it feel like we rode the train all day.. I let Connor and Chad take some toy Thomas and James trains with them on trax. Chad happened to leave Thomas on the train. He was sad for a minute, but was content with the consolation that Thomas got to have a "city adventure" all day long.
We got home just in time to pick Derek and Audrey up from school. They had a friend over for a while, whom Chad enjoyed playing with. He also sat at the decorated table and asked me to sing happy birthday to him early because he was so excited.
After he went home we headed over to Costco to pick out Chad's choice birthday dinner--orange chicken and brown rice. We also had to look at birthday desserts since earlier chad asked, "where's my birthday cake?" I told him that since I had made chocolate dipped marshmallows and pretzels for the dessert I didn't make a cake. To that he replied, "I HAVE to have a birthday cake." You can't fool him. He knows how these birthday parties work...so we looked at all the desserts Costco had to offer, and he settled on triple chocolate brownies--not a bad choice.
I decorated the dining room with Thomas decor and filled the request for balloons. Shortly after daddy got home from work we had a delicious dinner, ate chocolate dipped treats and brownies, sang happy birthday (again), opened his gifts {all of which he loved and was so excited for--a Nike sweatshirt, Curious George lunch box, and lacrosse sticks}, all while listening to Thomas' greatest hits on the stereo.
That is not all, oh that is not all. After dinner chad hurried outside to play with those new lacrosse sticks; visited with neighbors for a little; bathed; and played wii sports until late; finally going to bed with his lacrosse stick.

Birthday Girl
We told her not to do it, but she just wouldn't listen. We keep telling her not to grow up, but she does anyway.
What
was supposed to be a "low key" party turned out to be a fairly detail
oriented production...not because of me this year. It seems I have
given my children the party planning bug. Audrey looked at party ideas
online, and wanted to be involved in making all the decorations and
favors. I loved doing it with her.
Audrey
wanted to have pink lemonade and she found some heart-shaped cookie
cutters at the store to make heart--I mean "I love Hello Kitty"
sandwiches.
She
also helped me tape and fold and hang these tissue paper pom poms. She
was very clear on what she liked and where she wanted them.
Audrey and I cut and glued all the faces on her favor bags...she did a great job making and drawing Keropi for the boys.
we
managed to keep our menu simple: heart PB&J sandwiches, a Lucky
Charms snack mix in cute Audrey-made cones, pink lemonade, and beautiful
cupcakes made by an awesome friend of mine.
My
friend Amanda catered to every request Audrey had--strawberry flavored,
hello kitty for the girls and green apple flavored Keropi for the
boys. She even hand made all of the characters with frosting. She did
such an amazing job! They really made the decor..and tasted great...a
little too great.
We played pin the bow on Hello Kitty.

Her birthday guests included: Derek, Maddi, Lily, Sophia, and Chad
We put Hello Kitty tattoos on everyone (including the boys)
Everyone loved doing sand art
Audrey opened sweet girly gifts. She couldn't wait to put on her new pink cowgirl boots.
And she played with her new toys and her girlfriends until dinner. First Day of School
Every year I am so excited for school. I love the excitement of new beginnings, and new learning!
I also love shopping for school supplies...maybe not a good thing, but I love the smell of new pencils. As they mention on "You've Got Mail", I would love to have bouquets of freshly sharpened pencils around--maybe next year I will do that.
I started taking the kids pictures in the same places so I could have somewhat of progression/growing shots.
