Out of this World Symphony

Ben has been asking to go to the symphony, so we found a day that worked and invited grandma and grandpa Burgert to join us!

Lydia and Elsie had games, so they weren't able to come and enjoy the show.

The performance was called "Out of this World".

We got to our seats and prepared for the show.

This particular event was touted as a "family friendly" concert, but we had no idea what we were in for!

They had a special appearance by NASA astronaut Col. Guy Gardner as the host and narrator. 

In one of the songs, his narration was overlayed with the music, and it was a really cool way to experience it!

The songs were all space based, and they also showed footage of space exploration while playing.

It was an amazing experience and truly the best symphony event we've been to.

(My other favorite is when they play the movie scores along with the movie)

I highly recommend one of these special sessions to anyone!

 

Remembrance Walk

This September, just shy of one year since Dan's passing, a few McCarthy's gathered together to attend the Remembrance Walk.

We had some time to chat while we waited for the walk to begin.

At 9am we all walked in memory of our loved and lost, around Loose Park.

There was a large turn out.

And a beautiful morning.

Many of us wore Dan's company shirt in honor of him.

Then we all gathered to watch the dove release. 

Maisy thought watching from a tree would be a great idea...turns out it was hard to see from there.

It was a really neat visual to incorporate. 

They let one dove out.

And carried him around for all to see.

And then they let the rest of the doves go, but they hovered around until the final dove joined them. 

The symbolism was beautiful.

You will forever be missed, Daniel Lee.

Little Eaglettes

Once again Maisy joined her friends in the "Little Eaglette's dance camp" where they also got to perform what they learned at a North football game!

The girls got all themed up and ready to watch!

They had a great time out there!

And then they got to sit with the other dancers until half time.

I'm pretty sure this was the most fun part of the night:

There may not have been much attention paid to the guys on the field though.

But that's ok. 

All that really mattered was that this girl had a blast.

I got a little bit of time in with my girl as well.

BK takes Chicago

We kicked off September with another trip up to Chicago!

This time, it was for a soccer tournament.

Our first game kicked off on Friday night. 

On Saturday, we did not play until evening, so we used our time well and ran downtown for the day.

It was a cloudy, overcast day.

We first met up at Millennium Park.

About half of the girls made it to the Bean.

We walked around a bit and enjoyed the area!

Then we broke off and headed to the Chicago Theatre while the others walked to the Navy Pier.

Lydia and I were the only ones that had already enjoyed the deep dish pizza, so we were happy to experience it again with friends!

That day the weather shifted and while those in the Kansas City area were sweating it out in 105 degree temps, I was chilly and had to put on my jacket!

Lydia and I treated ourselves to some ice cream after another late game.

We played 2 games on Sunday and then headed back to Kansas City to make it home and enjoy the final day of the Labor Day weekend!
