EVENING GROSBEAK

Thunder rumbles,
Nature grumbles,
Evening Grosbeak comes to rest.

Danger brewing,
Floods ensuing,
Evening Grosbeak puffs his breast.

LAKE CHILL

Summer approaches.
Spring offers a last reminder
of her temperament. A cold
wind blows across the Great Lake,
wafting through the lowlands,
bringing with it a last gasp of winter
breath. The skies are painted,
in tones of muted gray, and today
holds little promise but this:
tomorrow will be another day;
another chance to get it right.
Hold hope for tomorrow.

STORMY WEATHER

Violence in electric downpour
trying to snore as the thunder rolls,
my tired soul yearns for some quiet
while this riot is incited. Lightning
dances and is excited. Waiting for the
tympani of noise to recoil. All toil
in a late Spring storm.

BEWARE THE IDES OF MAY

Summer approaches in theory,
a month away and the middle of May,
and it appears to be a nice non-rainy day
to finish putting my winter away.

Grass to cut and edges to trim,
the neighbor in foreclosure, he left a mess,
and I'll be cleaning up after him, I guess
I'll do what I have to to make it less

a cesspool around my domain, I'm kicking it in gear,
giving the yard a good spring cleaning,
(at least these intentions are what I'm meaning)
the sky is clear in the direction I'm leaning

but off to the East, it appears darkly cloudy,
this changeable weather is well expected,
but with all the rain lately, I'll feel so dejected
not being able to do what I've projected.

The middle of May, there's flowers to plant,
gardens to plan, and as usual, I'm the guy
to do the bull work as I like to, and try
to get it all done, but I sigh.

I felt a drop, and he brought family,
if it's a brief shower, I think I'll be fine,
on God's little acre (and this part is mine),
but if it pours, I'll get wet and whine.

Beware the Ides of March May,
take this day and seize 'er,
"Et tu, brutal (weather)?"
This Spring's been a killer.

APRIL'S BLUSH

Another April has come to an end
Whereby thirteen months were consumed
Pondering thoughts we’ve collectively penned
Grateful this poetic friendship has bloomed

HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL

It is said, where there's hope, there is life.
And life carries the promise of every new dawning.
In promise, the offer of the gift of life
is glowing with love  of a Good and Gentle nature.
Nature, like the awakening of a new spring.
And in the Ever-lasting Spring of our new life,
we will take solace in knowing that hope springs eternal.

APRIL SHOWERS

No fooling. April is upon us. Spring is truly taking root, leaving another winter in its wake. April is the beginning month in the rebirth of the soul and spirit. You can hear it in the sounds and sights around us. The birds are chirpier, the days are sunnier and the poets all over the place are celebrating another month of mirth with rhyme. April is National Poetry Month and the minions are chomping at the bit to get these thirty days rolling. A cascade of words. A torrent of thought. A flash flood of frivolity. All rolled up into a month that promises to be creative and inspired. A shower? An April shower to bring the flowers of poetry to the fore, come what may. No fooling.

IT'S ALL RELATIVE

One clock says this,
One clock says that --
My body clock
Has gone ker-splat.
What time is it?
I do not know.
What time is it
In Buffalo?
What time is it?
I cannot say --
Not even sure
Today’s today.

Marie Elena

SAVE THE DAYLIGHT

Spring ahead
the time has come
to reset the times
around your home.

All the clocks
to synchronize,
that's the daylight
savings prize.

Analog or
digital,
don't forget
to set them all.

Work your fingers
to the bone,
the time you save
may be your own.

Walt

TIMES, THEY ARE A'CHANGING

Time has changed
We sprang ahead
I’d rather be in bed instead.

My outlook, though
Will change tonight.
I’ll gladly welcome later light!

BACK OFF!

Oh no you don't,
you Groucho fake!
‘cause this is mine,
make no mistake!
No “ifs” or “buts,”
you got that right.
Now, go away --
or plan to fight!

YOU DON'T REALLY HAVE TO BE SQUIRRELLY TO GET NUTS (But it helps!)

Furry little forager,
I think it's really neato,
that you would don your "Groucho" nose
and go deep incognito,
looking for some sustenance
to store within your cheek,
trying hard to figure out
how to get it past that beak.
The neighbor dogs just stop and stare,
at your peculiar gaff,
They sense there's something funny there
but none the less, they laugh.
It's not that you're so humorous,
there are no "ifs" or "buts",
so don't ask them for the secret word
because they'd have to say it's "nuts".

SIGN OF SPRING?

Cute little porch-percher, perched on his spot,
Thinks it is springtime, although it is not.
Perhaps he knows more than my calendar knows.
Or will he be chirping his wintertime woes?
Springtime in Northwest Ohio is fickle,
Teasing blue skies, while the icicles trickle.
Cute little porch-percher, getting his fill,
Hang in there, little one – ward off that chill!
