Three months, the time flies

Vivian turned three months old last week.  She is developmentally right on track, pretty tall for her age, and off the charts when it comes to cuteness.

The best part of hitting the 12-week mark was learning to laugh.

(Don't know how to rotate the video, sorry.)

On a side note, does her hair look red to you?   Every once in a while the light will hit it just right and she is full-on redhead. We are guessing the end result is going to be strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes, possibly with a smattering of freckles.

Terriers and the newborn

For those who don't know, we have two dogs: Keisha, a grumpy 10-year-old pit bull terrier and Dingo, a spastic 3-year old Manchester terrier.
A lot of people have asked how the dogs have gotten along with the baby.

KEISHA:  very protective.  She follows Vivian where ever she goes and guards her.  Now, Keisha is old and her hips hurt so going up and down the stairs is tough for her, but she does it.  Keisha will also find one of us if the baby is alone and starts fussing.  (We have baby monitors but Keisha doesn't know that.)

DINGO:  completely ignores Vivian.  She will sniff at Vivian's toes if the baby is sleeping, but if Vivian's eyes are open, Dingo won't make eye contact or even acknowledge her.  Dingo knows her order in the family hiearachy - dead last.

We got a barrier for the CR-V so Vivian gets the middle all to herself.  The dogs are not allowed in Vivian's room.  For now, things are great.  Let's see what happens when she starts to crawl!

CR-V camping

We traded our Civic Hybrid for a CR-V.  It's tough to get a carseat in and out of a little sedan.  I love the space but miss the 40+ mpg.  You can pull the headrests off the front seats of the CR-V, lean them back and they are flush with the middle seats.  A big, flat area to sleep means CAMPING.

We headed south and ended up at Sand Hollow State Park, since Zion was full.  The sunset and sunrise were beautiful over the water, and we had lots of space to ourselves.

Now, when I say "space to ourselves" I don't mean in the car and when I say "flush with the middle seats" I don't mean the seats lay flat.  It was worse than sleeping on rocky ground without a Thermarest.  Dave was stuck with his legs under the steering wheel and both of us were crammed against the doors.  Vivian was quite comfortable in the bassinet between us and thinks camping is a lot of fun.

Does anyone have a pop-up trailer we could borrow?   Because that is my new definition of roughing it.

Mother's Day

I enjoyed my first Mother's Day this year.  Any excuse to receive chocolate is okay in my book.  Here are three generations of women with crooked pinky fingers:

My sister had a good idea to have all 12 of the grandkids put their handprints on a garden pot for Granny for Mother's Day.  It turned out really cute.  We could not get Vivian to open her hand so she stamped her foot instead:

I think you can't fully appreciate mothers until you become one. Thanks Mom!

Grasping

Vivian has grasped grasping.  She can bring her hand to her mouth without popping herself in the eye first.  It was fun to watch the development.  She was playing chicken with her fist for a while, and the fist was winning.

Fun in the Mesquite sun

We donned our sunglasses and headed to Mesquite for Aunt Bronwyn's bachelorette party.  It was a blast!  Vivian did very well on her first road trip, and can now say she has been to three states.

We were able to visit with all three of David's sister and his sister-in-law, and Vivian got to play with 9 of her cousins.  I got to take a nap in the hotel - heavenly!

Big head, little arms

I find the proportion of a baby's head compared to the rest of her body hilarious.  It is like a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
